Abstract

Indonesia is one of the countries with the largest rice consumption in the world. The strategic value of rice places it as a commodity contributing to inflation. This study aims to investigate the causal relationship between rice prices and the inflation rate in Indonesia and to analyze the role of rice prices in the inflation rate in Indonesia. The rice price and inflation rate data used are secondary data with monthly periods obtained from the Indonesian Central Bureau of Statistics, Bulog (The National Logistics Agency), Ministry of Agriculture, Ministry of Trade, FAO and United States Department of Agriculture, and the United States Census Bureau. The analysis was carried out using Granger Causality and Vector Error Correction Model (VECM) utilized by the E-Views application. The Granger Causality test results show a causality relationship between rice prices and the inflation rate in Indonesia with a bi-directional causality pattern. We also found a long-run relationship. Impulse Response Function shows that shock in the rice prices will affect inflation throughout the sixth month until it converges and is stable. In line with the results of the Impulse Response Function, analysis of Variance Decomposition shows that changes in rice prices play a role in explaining the difference in the inflation rate of 2,77%.

Abstract

Sustainable agriculture on a global scale is no exception in Demak Regency which aims to improve food productivity and has positive side effects on goods, services and the environment. Sustainable agriculture indicators vary from region to region. The purpose of this study was to determine the income and profitability and sustainability of shallot farming. The samples taken in this study were 175 shallot farmers respondent. The research method used is a survey method with three data analyses, namely income and profitability analysis and Structural Equational Modeling (SEM) analysis with the AMOS program. The results showed that the income of shallot farmers in Mijen District, Demak Regency was Rp119,319,173 per planting season with an average land area of 7,600 m2. The profitability value is 159.35%, indicating that the profitability of shallot farming is much higher than bank deposit rates, which means that this business is feasible to develop. SEM analysis shows that the exogenous variables of respondent characteristics and production input factors have a positive and significant effect on farming performance. Furthermore, exogenous environmental, social, economic and institutional variables have a positive effect on sustainability, while technological variables have no significant effect on sustainability variables. Agricultural performance has a positive relationship with sustainable agriculture. Farmers' knowledge of the use of technology in cultivation activities needs to be increased for the success of sustainable agriculture in each indicator.

Abstract

Urban areas are densely populated areas, so that land for agricultural production is minimal. The city of Surakarta is the center of the economy in the Soloraya region, whose agricultural land area continues to decrease. The study aimed to analyze household food security and the role of urban farming on household food security. The data used in the research was primary data collected by interview, recording, observation, and food recall methods. Respondent to the research consists of 60 households that carried out urban farming in 5 districts (Pasar Kliwon, Jebres, Banjarsari, Laweyan, Serengan) in Surakarta. The analytical data used food security analysis with indicators of food expenditure and energy consumption levels and descriptive analysis for urban farming to household food security. The results showed that as many as 21 or (35.00%) were categorized as food secure households, 12 or (20.00%) were classified as food vulnerable households, 22 or (36.67%) were categorized as lack of food households, and 5 (8, 33%) was categorized as food insecure. The role of urban farming on household food security is indicated by its contribution to food expenditure of Rp 87,336.00 or 7.69% to total food expenditure per month. It is necessary to increase the role of urban farming in household food security both in increasing income and providing food for households. This can be done, among other things, by intensifying and diversifying urban farming businesses.

Abstract

Agribusiness micro and small industries (MSI) have contributions in economic and social aspects. Financial institutions provide facilities and products to increase the accessibility of capital for Agribusiness MSIs. This study aims to analyze the influence of banks and non-bank financial institutions on the growth of micro and small food and non-food agribusiness industries. This study uses secondary data from potential village surveys in 2018 and 2022 with 82,900 villages in Indonesia annually. Data were analyzed using the Fixed Effect Model in Stata 15.0 software. The results show that four variables significantly positively affect Agribusiness MSIs: non-bank financial institutions (savings and loan cooperatives), electricity index, infrastructure and distribution index, and telecommunications and information index. The disaggregation results based on Agribusiness MSIs sector (food and non-food) show that the food and non-food agribusiness MSIs is positively and significantly influenced by non-bank financial institutions (saving and loan cooperative), the electricity index, as well as the telecommunication and information index. However, bank financial institutions, as well as infrastructure and distribution indexes, only have a significant positive effect on non-food Agribusiness MSIs. Alternative to increasing the number of Agribusiness MSIs units can be done with government support through policies to optimize the role of cooperatives and distribute infrastructure, especially related to telecommunications and information.

Abstract

Subsidized fertilizers have an important and strategic role in increasing agricultural productivity, but there are problems in their distribution that make farmers feel the scarcity of fertilizers. This study aims to evaluate the effectiveness of the distribution of subsidized fertilizers and determine the efficiency of the distribution of subsidized fertilizers in Sidrap District. Data collection was carried out by interviewing 12 farmers from 6 retailers and 3 distributors using accidental sampling technique. To identify the formulation of the problem, a quantitative descriptive analysis method was used with the percentage of farmers using subsidized fertilizer in accordance with the principles of the right type, amount, price, place, time, quality and to measure the efficiency of distribution can be tested using the marketing margin value. The results of the study showed that the distribution of fertilizers in Sidrap Regency as a whole was effective and efficient. Problems in the distribution of fertilizers in Sidrap Regency include the slowness of farmers in placing orders for fertilizers so that retailers need some time to restock fertilizer according to the needs of farmers, retailers sell fertilizers to other than farmer groups while farmers buy fertilizers not through farmer groups, farmers object to fees to groups farmers so that farmers buy fertilizer directly from retailers. Authors suggested to improve the fertilizer requirements database, socialize the official flow of subsidized fertilizer distribution for retailers and farmers, structure the location or scale of the retailer's business, and set a lower and upper limit for fertilizer distribution transportation costs.
