Abstract

Presenting image of female taken from a novel is similar to see picture of female in the middle of the novel author’s community. It is possible because a novel is not emerging from cultural emptiness and a novel is considered as able to reflect social life of its author. Image of women is a sociofeminism theory because it emphasizes roles provided for female in the middle of community. It has been agreed for long time ago that business world is the male world, and Egypt is not the exception. However, modern era motivates female to involve within the business world, not only as blue collar worker or labor but also as employer of a business. Novel “Malikatul-‘Inab” written by Najib al-Killany describes clearly a fighting of a female figure in establishing a plantation business. Having a strong financial resource from her business profit is, in fact, able to enhance position of a female in the middle of community. Accordingly, social roles she plays will be more important and diverse.

Abstract

This paper describes the history of Arabic Translations. There are three partsimportant things that correlated with Arabic Translations; (1) the history of terminologyamong terms of translations, (2) the definitions of translation it self based on a lot ofprofessionals scholarly, and (3) the history of “translation as a process” in Arabiclanguage from the earlier period of Islam. Finally, the result of data analysis shows thatthe process of Arabic translations comes from the process of trading in the Arabiancommunity with the strangers. In the other hands, the term of translation in Indonesianlanguage (terjemah) comes from Arabic language (tarjama-yutarjimu). It means thatthere are extremely correlations between Arabic Translation and Bahasa Indonesia. So,this is it the short history of Arabic Translations today.

Abstract

This dissertation titled "The Policies of Authoritarian Regimes towards PoliticalIslam: A Case Study on Soeharto’s and Anwar Sadat’s Regimes" attempts to answer thisquestion: what policies towards Political Islam were adopted by Soeharto’s and Sadat’sregimes and what are the similarities and differences between both of them as well astheir underlying factors? This dissertation is a library research with qualitative datausing descriptive, interpretative, and analytical approaches based on the theory of policy.  The policies of both regimes are classified into two broad strategies, namely: first, the subjugation of Political Islam’s power (through two modes: a. violence andmarginalization; and b. propaganda and image politics); second, the accommodation ofPolitical Islam (through two modes: social and religious appeasement; and legislativepolicy appeasement). Those policies are significantly of similar style and aim butdifferent in terms of order and tactic of implementation. In general, those policies areequally pragmatic and realistic for maximizing the regime’s strength and gains andoutrivaling all powers of Political Islam with view of achieving the state’s politicalstability and avoiding the emergence of legitimacy crisis owing to domestic situations. Therefore, the researcher refers to such policies as hegemonic regime’s domesticpolitical stability strategy.

Cultural acculturation and syncretism is indicated to occur and has great influenceon Javanese socio-cultural values, and also on arts and literature fields. In Javaneseliterature, Serat Centhini is a masterpiece written by great Javanese poet. PakubuwanaV, when he was a prince of Kasunanan Palace. It is not only presenting Javaneseknowledge comprehensively but also containing very strong Islamic values. The Islamicvalues contained in the Javanese literature masterpiece are, among the others, religiousproselytizing, Islamic syar’i, Islamic pillars and oneness of God. Abstract

The revolutions in the Arab World  such as Egypt, Tunisia, Marocco, Libya, Syriaand Yemen have affected  political  landscapes  in the Middle East countries. Revolutionsin the MENA countries  have broken up relations between the Arab World and the US.The revolutions also have paved the way for Islamic groups to put  political pressures totake power . Moreover, the Arab Spring have the influence over changes in the UnitedStates foreign policy  in Middle East. But, up to now,  it is not  clear that the revolution in the Middle East in 2011 is agreat opportunity for the U.S. to increase its role in countries. It's not  clear too,  whetheror not  it also a new opportunity for the U.S. to establish strategic alliances in ArabicWorld. While  Washington was surprised by the fall of the regimes of Egypt and Tunisia, for instance, there is  uncertainty  that the two countries  would be the new alliances ofthe US in the near future.  America has lost its loyalists  such as former Egyptian President Hosni Mubarakand Ben Ali, Tunis. But at the same time, the proximity of the the US-Gulf alliances isincreasing, especially with  Saudi Arabia,Bahrain, Kuwait  and Qatar . Washington for awhile is  still groping, if not frenzy, in rebuilding  the present relationship with the MiddleEast, as long as the MENA countries  are still in the era of transition. The U.S  and theWest are aware about  that  problem, and they  understand  that  in the Middle East thepolitical uncertainty  is so apparently.
