Abstract

AbstractMuslim banning issued by Donald Trump in his early presidency has become a controversial policy in US. It triggers various reaction both on the street and in the media. Mic of US is one of them that provide citizen’s opinion on the issue. This study aims at revealing the writers of two Mic articles’ view on Donald Trump and on the issue related to Muslim banning itself by means of transitivity analysis, one metafunction in Systemic Functional Grammar. It also observes the different view (if any) between the two articles on the person and the issue they discuss. The analysis on process types and circumstances of the clauses in both articles results in: the writer’s disagreement and dislike on Donald Trump and the policy in the article entitled Can Donald Trump ban all Muslims? Here’s what to know about his awful proposition; and the writer’s support on Donald Trump and the issue in the second article entitled Donald Trump Calls for “A Total and Complete Shutdown” of Muslims Entering the US.

Abstract

The environmental crisis created by human activity in the modern era has threatened the existence of planet earth and the lives of various creatures in it. These problems are not adequately addressed by scientific technology and methods alone, but a strategy that can fundamentally and radically change the way people view and behave towards their environment. This study examines the principles of Islamic teachings and their implementation in local wisdom practices of the Sundanese people, as one of the strategies for the development of morals and the way of view of human beings towards nature and the environment.

Abstract

This study interprets the ‘dancing’ as symbols of freedom expressed by a Dutch dancer, Mata Hari (alias Margaretha Geertruida Zelle) in Remy Sylado’s Namaku Mata Hari, a protagonist novel.  The data in this study are sentences or paragraphs containing dancing as symbols of freedom.  Those sentences or paragraphs were collected by conducting library research through reading carefully the novel Namaku Mata Hari, coding each part of the novel showing the dancing as a symbols of freedom and the role of her id, ego and super ego, classifying data into symbols proposed by Hayek’s (1960) and Hospers’ (1984) theories, and analysing the data simultaneously.  The result shows that the dancing as freedom symbols is interpreted in a lot of expressions: dancing expressing her freedom of being life, of taking back her rights, of avoiding Western aesthetic principles, of being peaceful state of mind, of finding her desire, of gaining a deep hypnotic trance, of gaining humanity instead of being prejudice of her nationality, and of avoiding Western civilization.

Abstract

Attempts to write local history to the development of national history writing is very important, even expected at each campus has a study program must include the History Education courses Local History or can be Local Historiography. The research method that I use is the heuristic method historical research, criticism, interpretation and historiography. Exposure War history Kedondong or War of Cirebon to Dutch colonization and social protests of farmers in Indramayu during the Japanese occupation is one of the local history authors suppose caliber already can be called national history. Writing of local history is not only the responsibility of all academics who manages the department of History Education in Indonesia but also the relevant government policy

Abstract

In this paper examines how the role of KH. Abdullah Zawawi Izhom in the distribution of Islam in Palembang. The study in this paper discussed  the  history of KH Abdullah Zawawi Izhom’s role in the distribution of Islam in Palembang, from 1930 until 2013. Many others are studying about the great scholars and well known in the public, on the other hand if in further study the role of KH. Abdullah Zawawi Izhom in accessing Islam is also quite significant, and so far there has been no research that discussed about his role in the spread of Islam in Palembang.Researchers are very important to examine how the role of KH. Abdullah Zawawi Izhom in the spread of Islam in Palembang, because there are several reasons that make this research is interesting. The first is about KH figure. Abdullah Zawawi Izhom as a local cleric who is very active in spreading Islam in Palembang and so far there is no significant discussion about him. Second, is how the history of his struggle in introducing an era in various islam. Based on the argument, the big question in this research is how the role of KH. Abdullah Zawawi Izhom in the distributing of Islam in Palembang. In order to process the data obtained from the optimal results, in this study using role theory. In this study the authors use the historical method that aims to collect, evaluate and reveal facts to enforce facts and strong evidence. The findings of this study is K. H Abdullah Zawawi Izhom, one of the important figures in the spread of Islam in the city of Palembang with various evidence, such as relics of mosques and majlis ta'lim who is still active nowadays. Then in the form of dakwah that he did, he was directed to the informal targets, such as inter-mosque da'wah, musholla, or ta'lim assembly. He also bought more Muslims to the impelementation in daily life. Then to further disseminate the science he had, he printed some students to spread around Palembang to keep in distributing Islam

Abstract

In the course of history, there are at least three problems that have induced conflicts among Muslim ummat in Indonesia. First, an ideological conflict that divides Muslims into those who aspires Islam as a basis of the state and those who promote nationalism as a principal basis of the state. Such a conflict has occurred in the 20th century and remains take place presently. Pancasila that has been issued as an ideology of the state is not more that just a compromised, middle-road solution to this conflict. Second, a conflict of religious thought that has embodied in the Islamic organizations. Formerly, this can take forms of ‘traditionalist’ and ‘reformist’ conflict that is represented respectively by Nahdlatul Ulama and Muhammadiyah, or even a conflict of intra-reformist organizations such as Muhammadiyah-Serikat Islam, or a conflict of intra-single organization as happens to NU. The emergence of new Islamic mass-organizations in the Reform era seems to be a valve of this conflict of religious thought. Third is a conflict of the nature and orientation of Indonesian culture. In the early 1930s, a sharp conflict revolving around whether Indonesian culture should emulate the Western culture or Eastern culture took place. The debate over Pornography Act currently is not other than a sort of this conflict.

Abstract

Translation is not only translating SL into TL, but also looking for the equivalent meaning when SL is translated into TL. English and Indonesian are two languages where both of them have different grammatical pattern in arranging how word, phrase, and clause as units of syntax are formed into a good sentence. This research shows how the structure and the changing meaning of NP in English and Indonesian found in The Adventures of Tom Sawyer’s novel and its Indonesian translation. The method of research is using qualitative method, purposive sampling, and document analysis which uses tri diagram. Using the theory of translation shift and syntax, this research shows that there are the changing of syntactic pattern, the changing of syntactic category and the changing of syntactic function also the shift of meaning when English NP is translated into Indonesian.

Abstract

Komunitas adat di Indonesia merupakan kelompok masyarakat yang menempati wilayah tertentu yang dicirikan oleh ketaatan dalam menjalankan adat istiadat warisan leluhur. Di Indonesai bagian Jawa barat terdapat 14 komunitas adat yang mempertahankan nilai-nilai adat dan tradisinya di tengah-tengah lingkungan modern saat ini. Penelitian menggunakan jenis kualitatif melalui analisis deskriptif melalui dokumen dan survei. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa Komunitas Adat di Jawa Barat, agama tidak dijadikan suatu sistem yang mengatur tata keimanan dan peribadatan, tetapi difungsikan sebagai edukasi, penyelamatan, pengawasan sosial, pembentuk persaudaraan dan transformatif dengan konsep mengikat diri dengan Tuhannya. Pranata keagamaan terselenggara berdasarkan filosofi kehidupan “Berusaha mencari kesempurnaan” dengan maksud untuk mengetahui asal mula dan akhir. Orientasinya adalah kembali kepada Tuhan Yang Maha Esa dengan harapan memperoleh suatu ketentraman. Sumber ajaran difusikan dari ajaran agama terdahulu dengan ajaran Islam yang diinternalisasi pada nilai-nilai tradisi budaya leluhur. Nilai Instrumennya berpangkal dari nilai achieving seseorang yang diinginkan warga pada masa hidupnya. Sistem nilai dibangun berdasarkan hirarki nilai individu ke dalam term kesadaran yang mengkolektif. Sistem sosial dibangun atas situasi keseimbangan antara sosial dan agama yang datang dikonstruk pada situasi normal melalui reorganisasi. Rekomendasinya, perlu pelestarian prinsip budaya kesundaan yang diadaptasi pada situasi modern agar tidak tergerus jaman dengan cara dukungan moril, ilmu pengetahuan, toleransi.

Abstract

 ABSTRACT This journal discusses the description of the lives of truck drivers represented in image and text message on the back of the truck. The image and text message become interesting since some readers feel it as a mere entertainment. However, to see the interpretation is through the perspective of linguistics. The theory of semiotics used analyze the point of view and meaning of images and writings that are represented.  By using the connotation and denotation meaning contained in semiotics, the language used is analyzed. The method used in this research is qualitative to describe the statement or the existing picture. The purpose of this study is to get understanding about image and text message illustrated on the back of the truck. The conclusion is that every writing and illustration illustrated in the truck has its own purpose which leads to the attention and criticism of the society towards the development of the era so that the meaning becomes part of the representation of some people who live on the streets.

Abstract

Pupujian merupakan tradisi keagamaan Islam yang tumbuh kembang di tatar Sunda, bahkan Nusantara. Pupujian merupakan “basa ugeran” yang berupa puja-puji, do’a, nasihat, tafsir Al-Qur’an, keterangan tentang hadits, riwayat Rasulullah, uraian tentang fikih atau bab agama lainnya, yang biasanya dinyanyikan di mesjid-mesjid atau pesantren-pesantren pada saat menunggu salat berjama’ah, antara adzan dan qomat. Terdapat pro-kontra tentang pupujian ini, apakah termasuk ibadah yang ada dasarnya (Al-Qur’an dan Sunnah) atau tidak ada? Dengan demikian pada tulisan ini penulis mencoba mencari teks-teks rujukan baik dari Al-Qur’an, Sunnah, maupun teks kesusastraan Arab yang menjadi latar atas teks-teks pupujian. Untuk mencari teks-teks rujukan tersebut, penulis menggunakan pendekatan semiotik, dalam hal ini teori semiotika intertekstual Julia Kristeva. Tujuan tulisan ini bertujuan untuk mengetahui jenis pupujian sebelum shalat berjama’ah yang ada di wilayah di Kec. Parungponteng Kab. Tasikmalaya dan Kec. Sukawening Kab. Garut; dan mengetahui hubungan antara teks-teks pupujian sebelum shalat berjama’ah dengan teks-teks dasar-dasar agama Islam. Dari hasil analisis diketahui bahwa jenis pupujian yang ditemukan di wilayah di Kec. Parungponteng Kab. Tasikmalaya dan Kec. Sukawening Kab. Garut, adalah pupujian yang menggunakan satu bahasa (Sunda atau Arab), dan campuran (Arab-Sunda). Adapun teks-teks yang menjadi referensi teks-teks pupujian tersebut adalah teks Al-Qur’an, Hadits, fiqih, kesusastraan Arab, dan sejarah. Sedangkan hubungan antara teks-teks pupujian dengan teks-teks referensinya bertransposisi “mengubah”.
