Abstract

Background: Pre-marital period is the best time to prepare for the quality of family health; however, In Indonesia, examinations and promotion of reproductive health and pre-marital counseling have yet to be carried out in all districts. Objectives: This study aimed to identify the description of reproductive health services and marriage counseling in Grobogan Regency, Central Java. Methods: This study used an assessment method of the implementation of the Reproductive Health Service Program for the bride, which includes IEC (Communication, Information, and Education) and medical examination of the bride and groom by health workers conducted in community health centers (Puskesmas) and other health care facilities, and office of religious affair (KUA), with the In-depth Interview Method. The subject was the KUA Officer under the Department of Religious Islamic Education in the Marriage Guidance program. Results: The interviews with KUA officers obtained results in 2017. There were still underage marriages, and the number increased in 2018. Prospective brides have submitted forms (N1, N2, N3, and N4) to KUA. Most of the brides were not physically examined (pulse, breathing frequency, blood pressure, body temperature) by health workers (63.7%), and blood groups were not examined (91.4%). Half of the respondents examined blood sugar, HIV, IMS, Hepatitis, and TORCH (56.8%). The bridegrooms were not examined for mid-upper arm circumferences (MUAC) (17.2%) and for signs of anemia (8.6%). The brides were not immunized against Hepatitis B (72.4%). Almost all brides get TT immunization at the Puskesmas (94.8%). Health workers stated that only some brides had been getting counseling about the bride's mental health (29,3%). Only 17.2% of the officers stated that the bride still needs to get a certificate of following the reproductive health IEC. Conclusions: KUA has conducted pre-marriage courses for couples according to the rules of the Ministry of Religion. Some PUSKESMAS had carried out activities for the bride and groom on a scheduled basis (for example, every Tuesday/Wednesday) but have not been carried out routinely, even stopped due to budgetary problems. The certificate is given after the bride and groom take the marriage guidance course, but it has yet to be required for marriage registration.

Abstract

Background: Clean and healthy life behavior that is not appropriately implemented will cause various infectious diseases that trigger anemia. Islamic boarding schools have a significant role in instilling clean and healthy life behavior in students. Objectives: This study aimed to analyze the relationship between pure and healthy life behavior with hemoglobin and serum ferritin. Hemoglobin and serum ferritin are indicators for diagnosing iron deficiency anemia. Methods: The research design was a cross-sectional study conducted in January – February 2021 at the Al Falak Islamic Boarding School in Bogor. A total of 45 subjects were selected with inclusion criteria, namely students aged 12-20 years, in good health, and being in the dormitory during the study period, while the exclusion criteria were not being in the dormitory for more than two weeks. Anaemia data status was obtained by measuring hemoglobin and serum ferritin levels. Analysis of hemoglobin (Hb) levels used the Cyanmethemoglobin method, while the analysis of ferritin levels in serum samples used the Chemiluminescent Microparticle Immunoassay (CMIA) way. Analysis of the correlation between the dependent variable, namely hemoglobin and serum ferritin, and the independent variable, namely clean and healthy living behavior. Results: Based on the hemoglobin value, 37.8% of the subjects had anemia, while based on the serum ferritin value, as much as 51.1% of the subjects had low iron status. Behavior related to personal hygiene, conduct related to washing hands, and behavior associated with the cleanliness of the subject's residence was classified as good, respectively, at 55.6%, 57.8%, and 44.4%. There was a correlation between personal hygiene-related behavior with hemoglobin (p= 0.042) (r=0.305) and serum ferritin (p= 0.036) (r=0.313). Abstract

Background: Food security exists when everyone has access to sufficient, safe, nutritious food to maintain a healthy and active life. There are still food-insecure groups at the global and national levels, even though almost every country has already regulated food security. Older women's household headship with physical limitations, the stigma in society, and mainly the patriarchal culture surrounding them create boundaries for them to do various jobs in the domestic and public sphere to fulfill their daily needs. Objectives: By exploring women's intersectionality, this research aimed to seek the narration of the older woman as the head of the household in Kumpulrejo, Salatiga, and how they access their food. Methods: Qualitative method with participatory observation was used to understand more about their activities. Meanwhile, this research also conducted an in-depth interview to gather participants' information. Five elderly female household headship in Kumpulrejo were randomly recruited. Results: Elderly women household headship in Kumpulrejo in their old age still had problems accessing food. However, participants had various strategies for fulfilling daily food, so they were still in good condition. In the social environment, participants still mingle with the community, regardless of age and social status. Participants' ownership of kitchens and clean water still needed to be in better condition, thus increasing the risk of experiencing infections or other diseases. Conclusions: Elderly female households had easy access to food because of their various strategies, such as borrowing from local vegetable vendors to meet their daily food needs.

Abstract

Background: The second growth spurt period needs attention related to the intake of macro-nutrients and micro-nutrients, including vitamin D. So far, the evaluation of vitamin D has received less attention if indoor activity patterns exacerbate it and imbalanced food consumption patterns, it raises concern to trigger vitamin D deficiency and affect the children growth, development and quality of life. Objectives: To determine the relationship between children's consumption patterns on vitamin D levels, weight, height, and quality of life of children aged 10-12 years. Methods: Observational research with the cross-sectional design was conducted on 40 children 10-14 years old without physical disability from Pondok Kun Assalam Sentono and Madrasah Ibtidaiyah At-Taqwa Semarang, Indonesia. All subjects were measured consumption patterns using the Food Frequency Questionnaire (FFQ), blood levels of vitamin D, height, weight, leg length, and quality of life measured using the Pediatric Quality of Life Inventory (PedsQL). Results: The results showed that out of 40 subjects, only 3 (7.5%) children had sufficient vitamin D levels (≥30 µg/mL). There was a significant relationship between food consumption patterns and blood vitamin D levels (p<0.01), height, weight, leg length, and quality of life (p<0.05). The Spearman correlation coefficient values, respectively, between food consumption patterns and blood vitamin D levels, height, weight, leg length, and quality of life were; 0.404; 0.290; 0.369; 0.380; 0.321. Conclusions: The food consumption patterns of children in the second growth spurt period need to be considered because they are associated with vitamin D levels, height, weight, and quality of life.

Abstract

Background: National Basic Health Research or Riset Kesehatan Dasar in 2018 stated that obesity in Indonesia had reached 21.8%. Being overweight and obese are among the risk factors that increase various health problems, including dyslipidemia and type 2 diabetes mellitus; hence, lifestyle changes are needed, one of which is through dietary modification. The Mediterranean diet is said to improve the lipid and glucose profiles of overweight or obese people.   Objectives: This literature study aimed to determine the effect of the Mediterranean diet on lipid profiles and blood glucose levels of overweight or obese people.  Methods: This research was conducted using the literature review method on two databases that consist of Pubmed and Cochrane, with specific keywords: "Mediterranean Diet," "Obese," "Overweight," "Lipid," dan "Glucose." The inclusion criteria in this study were articles that have been through peer review and proven that the articles are credible nationally and internationally. In addition, the literature was published in the last ten years, from 2012 to 2022, with RCT research design, using English or Indonesian, >18 years old subjects classified as obese or overweight, and can be accessed online. Meanwhile, the exclusion criteria for this study were literature using pregnant women as a subject, <18 years old subjects, and a non-RCT method study.  Discussion: Mediterranean diet is a type of diet that consumes foods high in monounsaturated fatty acid, polyunsaturated fatty acid, and soluble fiber. According to the results of this literature review, these nutrients improve lipid profiles in obese and overweight people. The Mediterranean diet's antioxidant composition and low glycemic index were also found to lower fasting blood glucose levels. In addition, carbohydrate control and physical activity are associated with fluctuation in insulin sensitivity that can affect fasting blood glucose levels in obese and overweight people.   Conclusions: It was found that some literature stated that the Mediterranean diet could lower the levels of LDL, triglycerides, and total cholesterol, increase HDL levels and lower fasting blood glucose levels.

Abstract

Background: Stunting toddlers in Indonesia was still a concern of the government. The Indonesian Ministry of Health noted that the 2020 stunting rate was 27.7% to 24.4% in 2021, while the government's target in 2024 was 14%. Objectives: The purpose of the study was to prove the relationship between Zinc intake and the average height growth of toddlers, in addition to proving the relationship between Zinc intake and stunting.  Methods: A cross-sectional study was conducted on 54 toddlers with a history of births at Sultan Agung Hospital and Bangetayu Health Center in August-November 2017. The average body length growth was the rate of body length increase per month for the first three years of life (cm/month). Data on Zinc intake (mg/day) were obtained from food recall with a food model and analysis of Zinc content in food using the Nutrisurvey application. Test the hypothesis statistically using Spearman, Chi-square, and Fisher's Exact.  Results: Zinc intake was not correlated with mean height growth (p=0.231 r=0.166). Stunting was significantly associated with Zinc intake <3 mg/day, p=0.001. There was a relationship between nutritional status WAZ-score and stunting at three years, p = 0.001. There was a negative correlation between birth length and average height growth. Conclusions: Zinc intake was not associated with the rate of growth in body length in the first three years. Daily Zinc intake was associated with stunting in toddlers.

Abstract

Background: Stunting is a chronic growth disorder that occurs during growth and early development in life. Interventions to prevent malnutrition should be implemented within 1000 days of life. Between 6 and 24 months is essential as children transition from exclusive breastfeeding to complementary feeding.  Objectives: To provide scientifically justifiable information on dietary preventions to prevent stunting. Discussions: The data were obtained from a study of various literature sources by searching through search engines: Google Scholar, BMC, Pubmed, and ScienceDirect, in the form of research results of reputable and national journals. The articles obtained related to this study were seven articles related to dietary supplement interventions to increase the z-score of Length/height-for-Age in stunted children aged 6-24 months. Conclusions: There were two types of interventions carried out to increase the HAZ in stunting toddlers by providing a single nutrient (mineral zinc) and a combination of 2-3 types of nutrients (Zinc, Iron, Vitamin B12, Vitamin A, Fat). In contrast, the intervention of the combination of zinc mineral nutrients, prebiotics, and food supplements in the form of micronutrient powder sachets did not show a significant difference in the length gain of toddlers.
