Abstract

Berbicara merupakan salah satu kemampuan yang harus dimiliki oleh siswa dalam belajar bahasa Inggris, karena berbicara digunakan sebagai alat untuk berkomunikasi satu dengan yang lainnya. Pada abad ke-21 ini, banyak sekali inovasi pembelajaran yang diperkenalkan sebagai alat untuk belajar berbicara, salah satunya adalah teknologi modern. Dalam pembelajaran, banyak jenis teknologi modern yang diperkenalkan untuk membantu siswa dalam belajar berbicara, seperti laboraturium bahasa, video, satelit, internet, blog, kamus digital, dan lainnya. Teknologi modern tersebut bertujuan untuk meningkatkan kemampuan siswa dalam berbicara terutama berbicara bahasa Inggris.

Abstract

This research is an annotated translation. The object of the research is an English novel entitled Any Minute. The problems of the research are: 1) What are the difficulties the translator/researcher encountered during the process of translating the novel Any Minute? and 2) What are the solutions for those problems/difficulties? The objectives of this research are: a) to attain factual information concerning the problems/difficulties faced by the researcher and b) to solve the problems/difficulties in the course of translating the source text. In this annotated translation research, the translator/researcher uses the introspective and retrospective methods. The result and analysis reveal that there are 2 words, 8 phrases, 2 clauses, 8 sentences, and 5 idioms from the 25 data of the aspects of languages analyzed that were difficult for the translator/researcher. Those difficulties were at the same time became the problems of the translator/researcher. The solutions of the problems were attained by the annotation or analysis done relevant to the translation strategies and translation theories.

Abstract

The problem of this research was to find out whether or not it is significantly effective to improve reading comprehension through Concept Oriented Reading Instruction (CORI) Strategy to the Eighth Grade Students of SMP Negeri 13 Lubuklinggau in the academic year 2016/2017. The strategy applied was pre experimental method with one group pretest-posttest design.. The sample was taken through cluster random sampling. The result was VIII.2 class with the total number of 28 students. The data were collected through test consisted of 25 items of multiple choices. The data were analyzed through four techniques: 1) Students’ Individual Score, 2) Minimum Mastery Criteria, 3) Normality and 4) Paired t-test calculation. The result of this study: (1) The mean students’ score in the pre-test was 64.00, (2) The mean score of post-test was 76.00 and (3) the result of paired t-test was 11.43, which was higher than 1.703 value of the t-table of 27 (28-1) with 95% significant level for one tailed-test. In this research the researcher formulated two hypotheses. They were null hypothesis (Ho) and alternative hypothesis (Ha). Based on the result of the paired t-test calculation showed that the null hypothesis (Ho) was rejected and the alternative hypothesis (Ha) was accepted. Abstract

English is international language that used to communicate between people in the world with different language background. In Indonesia, English as foreign language that taught in the school, so all of Indonesian students learn English as the main subject lesson in the school. Abstract

The Objectives of the study are to describe the system used in Teaching English as a foreign language at LP2M El-Rahma Education Center Palembang, whether or not it is relevant with the principles of the procedure for the development of instructional system and to find out whether the system is suitable to the adult student’s needs or not. A descriptive method was used in this research, becauase the writer described the data as they are. The subject of the study is the population of the second semester students of LP2M El-Rahma Education Center Palembang in the academic year 2006/2007, there are 180 students from the population 40 students are taken as the sample randomly. The data are obtained through documentation, interview to the English instructors who taught at LP2M El-Rahma Education Center Palembang . Observation and Questionaire given to the students. The data are analyzed by means of percentage . Based on the results of the data analysis, the writer found that the system used in TEFL at LP2M El- Rahma Education Center Palembang was relevannt to the system of teaching and the system applied was not suitable to the students’ needs. they needed to learn English computer science in the term of writing grammatically, speaking with public either science textbooks espeacially which are written in English.

Abstract

The objectives of the study are to describe and find out the effectiveness the teaching of English vocabulary using games involving pictures in class activities at the third grade students of Elementary School. This study is action research. The subject of study is the third grade students of Elementary School of Piri Nitikan Yogyakarta. There were 17 students in the class. The data were collected from the observation, interview and test. The data were analyzed from field notes, interview transcript, the observation sheets and test result. It is concluded that using games involving picture in the class can make some progress to the students. The students can increase their vocabulary mastery and their ability both in writing words and in speaking. The students can pronounce the English words correctly. Besides, using games involving picture make the students active and enjoy English class.

Abstract

This research was conducted to improve the effective communication in students’ classroom presentation. Based on the phenomena happened in classroom presentations, the researcher found that there was a tendency in doing slide reading during presentations. Thus the researcher formulated this research question: “How can effective communication be achieved in students’ classroom presentation?” Since it was a practical problem that should be solved together by the researchers and the participants, thus action research was applied to solve the problem. There were several theories used to answer the research questions; theory of communication, communication skills and speaking skills. This research was conducted using three cyclical processes. Based on the classroom observation, there were improvements in doing classroom presentations. The participants had given clear and unambiguous explanation, congruent material, accurate message, and feedback although there was still weakness in the criteria of giving specific examples.

Abstract

Abstract This aims of this research were to find out the students problem in writing an essay and to describe the possible causes of the problems are faced by the students in writing an essay. This research belongs to descriptive qualitative research. The data was gotten from questionnaire and interview from the third semester students of English Education at STKIP-PGRI Lubuklinggau. The data in this research was collected by some steps 1) the researcher gave the questionnaire to students and lecturer 2) the researcher gave the interview to students and lecturer 3) the researcher collected the data to get the data of the students problems in writing an essay. Based on the result from the research in questionnaire and interview of students’ problems in writing an essay, the students had some problems especially in using grammar, vocabulary, cohesion and syntax. And, this result become the next important problems can be analyzed by other researcher.

Abstract

Relative Clause is a clause which uses relative pronoun to explain or describe more about the noun. The purpose of this research is to find out what type of errors that students make in forming adjective clause and what kind of relative pronouns which the students often make error. This research will be conducted qualitative method descriptively. The population for this research is the third semester students at English Education department academic year 2017/2018 at Indraprasta PGRI University. There are two classes which consist of 30 students for each, therefore the population of this research is 60 students. The technique of sample taking is random sampling. Therefore the researcher takes 20 students which is 30 percent of the population as a sample from the two classes randomly. To collect the data, the researcher uses three techniques: Observation, Test, and Library research. The study reveals that there are many students that do not understand how to use relative pronouns (who, whom, which, whose) correctly.

Abstract

The primary aim of this study is to provide the empirical and theoritical evidence for the effect of teaching methods and personality types on reading comprehension. This quassi experimental study involved 100 students under investigation, which were determined randomly through multistage random sampling technique. The results of the research indicate that there is an interaction effect between the teaching methods and personality types on the reading comprehension; there is no significant difference in the reading comprehension between the group of students who learn using Cooperative Integrated Reading and Composition (CIRC) and those who learn using Problem Based Instruction (PBI); the students’ reading comprehension having extrovert personality is better than those having introvert personality; the students’ reading comprehension having extrovert personality who learn using CIRC is higher than those who learn using PBI; and the students’ reading comprehension having introvert personality who learn using the CIRC is lower than those who learn using PBI.
