Abstract

Human being is the intelligent animals. With his mind human can determine and consider his choices on his deed. Likewise his conscience, man can guide and control his actions what he will do. In his life men has the good, last, highest. Purpose. That is the happiness. The perfect happiness that human wishes. In fact, human being always did the action that contradicted with his humanity. That is, doing “violence”. For this reason, we arrange this paper to find the illustration; how do the human being do his actions and deeds? and what do become the factors of the happening violence? This article uses many relevant theories, especially, morality and violence theories. Based on the discussion analysis above, it argues that the human deed is the humanity characteristic. It means that human does the action and he/she is responsible to those actions. But if she/he does not want to do the actions, she/he will not be responsible to those actions. The actions that is done arise from a certain motive, including to the happening of violence which is carried by the certain motive. It means that the different motive is based on different kind of violence. Finally, unfunctional mind like as usual, and the blunt of inner feeling cause the arisings of violence.

Abstract

This study is to explore religious pluralism and pherennial philosophy. Some of conclusions are drawn. Firstly, the pherennial philosophy is a tradition forming intellectual heritage and human spirituality which is originally and directly delivered from the sacred revelation. Secondly, religion is institutionalization of pious experience to God, as the religion is manifestation of an organized pious system. Due to the fact, as an institution, religion continously develops in the certain context and situation. It means that religion could be contextually and situationally different depending on the followers’ personal faith and belief. Thirdly, Indonesia is a unique state with heterogeneous aspects in religion, language, ethnicity, and others, but these different aspects are united in the single ideology of Bhinneka Tunggal Ika firstly coined by Mpu Tantular in Kitab Sutasoma.

Abstract

Islamic preaching (dakwah)  is pious activity as inspreable part of Muslims life, not merely because of Islam as preaching religion, but also that religion is in fact embraced by the most people of the world, then the Islamic preaching as a kind of science is not rightly questionable. However, a fact that Islamic preaching is a kind of science is debatable yet among experts since the systematic form of Islamic preaching is not really different from the common communication with the communicator, communican, message, and channel. So it is also case for the Islamic preaching with da’i, mad’u, Islamic materials, and preaching media. Furthermore, this article attempts to set the Islamic preaching in the common sciences through an approach to philosophy of science in various perspectives, suchh as positivism, naturalism, phenomenology, and metaphysics, by integration between deductive and inductive theories. Before doing that, I attempt to do through the Islamic ways in the preaching because the Islamic preaching is not merely religious obligation, but also imprortantly a theoretical and praxical activity runnig on the basis of Islamic univeral mission, rahmatan lil al-‘âlamîn.

Abstract

This study portrays interdisciplinary Islamic studies as an undeniable necessity, since it argues that Islam had produced many scientific disciplines and approaches to be studied under various aspects. This interdisciplinary approach was firstly coined by Harun Nasution in the 1980s and achieved the better situation in terms of that doctrinal-traditional studies are not sufficient for the Islamic studies, then it needs to develop the interdisciplinary subjects.

Abstract

This article portrays a process of multicultural education in Pesantren as a multicultural Islamic education. Islamic education, with its inclusive character, is a basic requirement of developing multiculturalism in Pesantren. A multicultural education is not merelly integrated to curriculum, but also embedded into an attitude of kiyai and ustadz as modeling figure in Pesantren tradition, making santri easily adaptable with multicultural values, and by doing so it finally creates an insight of nationalism in Pesantren.

Abstract

Ali Abdul Raziq rejected a logical axiom that building khilafah is a requirement for getting religious and common goods. For him, it is not merely khilafah, but every social system in the certain community needs a common good. Every country, whatever religion they mostly embraced, needs a certain system of organizing the common goods. The system could be based on every ideological underpinning, including khilafah. Furthermore, a claim that khilafah is the only religious system is unacceptable. Ali Abdul Raziq argues that religion has nothing to do with this system. There is no Islamic law which ruled khilafah, neither rejected it. All types of constitution and the ways they kept maintaining them are based on logical capability and living experience.

Abstract

The lots of members of Nahdlatul Ulama, the largest social organization in Indonesia, made it as getting a considerable position in any aspect of social life. Due to its strategic position, the cadres of Nahdlatul Ulama tried to get involved with politically bargaining their existence as ummah  with its high number of quantity, but with highly qualified ones. The current cadres of Nahdlatul Ulama have strategic position in public domain with their original aim to produce the universal well being. Regardless of the quality and quantity of Nahdlatul Ulama members in the process of social maintenance and development, they take an epistemological basis on ‘doctrine’ of Ahl Al-Sunnah wa Al-Jamâ‘ah (Aswaja). On its classical terminology, Aswaja is considered as a continuous doctrine of the ancient tradition of ulama’. However, on its contemporary terminology, Aswaja is perceived as a method of thought (manhâj al-fikr) in positioning a social reality based on deeds of tawâsuth, tawâzun, tasâmuh, ‘adâlah, dan amr ma’rûf nahî munkar.
