Abstract

This study aims to examine the problems of form, type, purposeand factors that cause the process of code switching and code mixing inthe daily conversations of lecturers and staff at the Faculty of Sharia andIslamic Economics. This type of research is qualitative descriptive research.Data collection in this study uses skillful listening techniques while dataanalysis uses extralingual equivalent methods. The research location wasat the Faculty of Sharia and Islamic Economics IAIN Mataram. While theobject of research is daily conversation at the Faculty of Sharia and IslamicEconomics IAIN Mataram. The results of the findings of this study are theform of code switching and code mixing found in the form of words, phrasesand clauses. The type of code transfer that is found is internal code switching(inner code-switch) and the type of code mixing found in the form of mixingcode into (inner mixing-code). While the purpose of code switching is foundin the form of: affirmation, debilitating, certainty, curiosity, explanation,quips, suggestions, offers and notifications. The purpose of the code mixwas found in the form of: respect, affirmation, ambiguity, wonder, specific,anger, culture, information, curiosity, prohibition and appeal. Factors thatcause code switching are: opposed to speaking and the presence of thirdspeakers. While the causes of interfering code are: desire factors to explain,variety identification factors and role identification factors.

Abstract

This article aimed to describe three focuses: first, how sounds oflanguage signify its meaning; second, how composition of sounds correspondsto the composition of meaning; and third, what are the proofs that the soundsof al-Qur’an verses compose its meanings. Research approach of this articleis qualitative approach using library research. Based on phonological andsemantic studies, this research concludes that the relation between wordsand its meaning in Arabic is natural relation; sounds of al-Qur’an thereforeindicates its meaning; and it can be proofed by analysing al-Qur’an fromphonological and semantic perspective

Abstract

This articlces intents to describe the meaning of gestures in sosialcultural context, especially for students in language learning and generally forlanguage user which have different cultural background and to encouragean appreciation of cultural diversity and the process of interculturalcommunication.Students and people still find difficulties to learn, tounderstand the gestures and leaves them confused about what the meaningof gestures apply in context of situation and culture. This confusion is due tocountless rules governing proper of gestures.Based on the brief explanationabove, speakers of languages in certain cultures that use “gestures” canchange the meaning or the meaning conveyed. Thus, the problem is likewhat gesture used by speakers of the language so that what is deliveredis not responded well, of course based on different cultural backgrounds.Gestures serve different purposes in language. Function gestures makesymbol of language has meaningful. Content of gestures are the symbolsthat communicate meaning in contexts. Clearly, people must know kinds ofgestures to understand what they act.

Abstract

This article aims to explain: (1) the factors that caused students ofthe PBA FTK UIN Mataram departemen difficulties in writing Arabic theses,(2) management of majors in improving the ability to write Arabic-languagethesis students of PBA FTK UIN Mataram departemen. The approach usedin this study was a qualitative approach with a case study design. The datasources in this study were students majoring in PBA departemen, PBA alumni,and permanent lecturers majoring in PBA. Data collection techniques usedwere interviews, documentation studies and observations while data analysiswas carried out using descriptive-qualitative analysis techniques. The resultsof this study are: (1) The causes of students majoring in PBA FTK UINMataram departemen difficulties in writing Arabic theses are (a) input,many PBA students come from high school or public school with minimalbasic language. (b) the willingness to speak Arabic in students is still low. (c)department policies are still not firm, namely still giving students the freedomto write Indonesian theses. (d) department facilities and infrastructureare still minimal, namely Arabic books or references are still lacking. (2)Management of majors in improving the ability to write Arabic theses forstudents majoring in PBA FTK UIN mataram namely (a) Growing interestand providing awareness to students. (b) Making policies requires studentsto write Arabic language theses and strive for students to communicate inArabic, at least when in PBA. (c) Making teaching materials for all subjects inPBA majors. (d) Implementing the IQF curriculum. (e) Carry out produckbasedpracticum activities. (f ) Making guidelines for Arabic thesis writing
