Jurnal Desain Interior, Seni dan Budaya adalah jurnal yang mempublikasikan wacana dan hasil penelitian berterkiat dengan desain, desain interior dan diskursus desain interior terhadap kajian seni dan budaya. Pendhapa dalam susunan rumah tradisional Jawa merupakan ruang terbuka untuk menerima tamu, tempat pertemuan, tempat pertunjukan. Pendhapa memiliki fungsi yang cukup kompleks yakni fungsi sakral maupun profan, ritual sekaligus seremonial, publik sekaligus privat, meleburnya bagian luar dan bagian dalam interior-arsitektur bangunan, bertemunya tamu dan tuan rumah. Pendhapa sebagai paseban, merupakan medium bagi bertemu, bertukarnya ide, pemikiran, gagasan, informasi, strategi maupun formulasi menyangkut banyak hal untuk kemaslahatan. Selaras dengan fungsi pendhapa yang strategis hadir Pendhapa: Jurnal Desain Interior, Seni dan Budaya terbit berkala setahun dua kali pada bulan Juni dan Desember sebagai media penyaluran dan publikasi ide, gagasan, inovasi, hasil penelitian para ilmuwan desainer dan desainer ilmuwan.

Abstract

To send the message of communication by entrusting it on an object, in this case advertisement or an event in which many people show interest, should use accurate words. Using words inaccurately,  the message can not be understood well. A language as a means of communication and communication itself is self-expression. Not only can each language be used to analyze structurally but also using semiotic approach, especially to advertisements. Besides an activity of communication, advertising is an activity of marketing. Basically an advertisement is the product of mass culture and of industrial society culture indicated by mass production and consumptions. It means that the mass are only viewed as consumers. Communication activity creates personal interactions using clear signs. Communication is also the division of behavioral elements or life style with a set of rules and the use of signs. From communication point of view, the manipulation of elements of a message depends on who the target is and through what media the advertisement should be expressed.The presence of advertising as  public service is meant to counter commercial advertisements because  they are often accused of increasing consumerism. Apart from that, advertising as a public service advertisement can be viewed using semiotic approach. Key words: language, advertisement, semiotics

Abstract

The government and society should pay special attention to the existing historical and old buildings and keep them eternal. The rapid and dynamic development in every field can sometimes put forward a policy that does not support their existence. Some old buildings like Sasono Mulyo andPurwodiningratan buildings are Javanese traditional buildings existing in the milieu of Kasunanan palace of Surakarta. The interiors of the two buildings have different conditions. Some objectives of conservation among others are to return to the origin, to make use of the conserved object to support the present life, to lead the present development harmonized with the plan in the past reflected in the conversed object, and to present the history of growth/surroundings in three dimension physical appearance. Through descriptive qualitative approach, it is known that generally the condition of the interior of Sasono Mulyo is maintained more than that of Purwodiningratan. In view of the condition, it is hoped that the government and those involved pay attention to and provide funds for culturally protected buildings such as Sasonomulyo, Purwodiningratan buildings and many others. Key words: old and historical buildings, conservation, Sasono Mulyo, Purwodiningratan.

Abstract

Dalem Kusumayudhan is a part of the Sahid Kusuma Hotel in Surakarta, and was formerly the residence of Kanjeng Gusti Pangeran Harya Kusumayudha, son of Paku Buwana X. It has changed ownership several times and been renovated on a number of occasions, and the last renovation was in the middle of 2008, as part of the owner’s strategy to attract more tourists to visit and stay in the Sahid Kusuma Hotel.The aim of this research is to discover the style and structure of the ornament variations of the singep tumpangsari in the Sahid Kusuma Hotel, and also the philosophical meaning contained in these ornaments in relation to the culture of the surrounding community. It is hoped that the results of this research will be beneficial for current efforts to preserve and encourage the use of traditional Javanese ornament variations on buildings today. The process for collecting and analyzing data and information uses a qualitative research method. The description of the style, structure, and the meaning of the ornament variations uses Gadamer’s hermeneutic phenomenological approach.In general, the structure of the ornament variations on the object of the research complies with the structural norms of the fine arts discipline, namely: unity, pressure, and balance. It is hoped that the discovery of the meaning of these ornament variations will enable others to benefit from the philosophical values contained in the ornament variations in the Sahid Kusuma Hotel, namely: leadership, superiority, determination, strength, and the essence of discovering the meaning of a perfect life. Key words: style, structure, meaning, ornament

Abstract

Philosophical Aesthetics here is considered to center on these latter-day developments. Some aesthetic effects available in architecture, technology, and visual arts include tonal variation, juxtaposition, repetition, field effects, symmetry/asymmetry, perceived mass, subliminal structure, linear dynamics, tension and repose, pattern, contrast, perspective, 3 dimensionality, movements, rhythm, unity, and proportion. An aesthetic experience is just the experience of aesthetic properties and formal relations of a work. But this leads to problems concerning the attribution of aesthetic properties and whether we detect them or they are merely projected. Carroll suggests that the mere fact that we disagree about the attribution of aesthetic properties gives us at least some minimal reasons to presume that aesthetic properties are objective. Our response to art is unique and not precisely intellectual; beauty and perfection that we find in works of art do not consist of concepts but sense impressions. Key words : aesthetics, architecture, technology, art.

Abstract

Education is the most important thing in life. An Indonesian person of good quality will only be obtained with education. Andrea Hirata, the author ofLaskar Pelangi, explored the problems of education which made reader be fascinated. Andrea told real facts and imagination into a beautifully flowing story. The composition containing the integration of plot, characterizing, theme, and setting is thought to be very good. The language flows beautifully. Andrea told the condition of SD Muhammadiyah with its very alarming facilities. This condition is much different from that of SDPenambangan timah which has complete utilities and facilities. Abstract

A chair is a culture product as well as a social product. A chair is a means or a tool for sitting for human being. A chair has better luck than other kinds of furniture have. A chair has the most prestigious symbolic meaning which other furniture or designed artifact does not have. The word ‘Kedudukan’ (occupation) which comes from the root ‘duduk’ (to sit) means power so that it is no wonder that a chair becomes the symbol of power. A chair as a tool for sitting has developed to be a cross-cultural and country mass product since Industrial Revolution in England. A modern chair designed to be comfortable from an ergonomic standpoint, to be functional from the standpoint of shape, and to be economical from the standpoint of production has rapidly developed and many people are interested in it.Key words: chair, symbol of power, modern, shape

Abstract

Solo (Surakarta) is a cultural city showing a significant progress. Although its transmission process is completely influenced by a cultural border, which is considered by the people as a great matter, the acculturation process that influences a visual culture cannot be ignored. The significant progress can be observed from its physical structure of site plan and other factors. While the city visualization that shows a crowd of business and trade community as well as education reflects its rapid progress.  A variety number of cultural products inevitably support the city visualization, which attract its people’s consumptive behavior. The writer is interested in choosing the phenomenon of the presence of minimalist-style housing complex that is like an epidemic in this city, especially in Adisucipto region and other strategic regions.Observation and interview were used as the methods of this study. The techniques used in this study were content analysis and data analysis using a procedure of:  an analysis done when the process of data collecting was done (Miles and Hubermen, 1984: 21-25) with some steps: (1) data reduction, (2) data reporting, and (3) verification. Those methods were applied by the writer to discuss the phenomenon of minimalist-style housing complex in Surakarta, which focuses on the things that give a background of the presence of it. It consists an interaction between traditional and modern ambivalence as well as between the maintained aspects and conditioned aspects. The two aspects will be mediated with a given concept that is agreed by the visual culture consumers, so that an unwritten agreement that brings the identity of Solo city itself can be obtained in the future in line with the demand of the era. Keywords : phenomenon, minimalist, epidemic.

Abstract

This article is a part of the result of the research on the function and meaning of interior design of dalem pangeran. This research aims at finding out the meaning contained in the interior design of Javanese houses. The result of the research shows that in case of the interior design, dalem pangeranis always oriented towards symbolic classification based on two, four, and eight. The outlook on classification two often manifested in kiwo-tengen(left-right), atas-bawah (top-down), or loroning atunggal (two in one) is always integrated into something greater and absolute. This view is not a contrast but a relation of two different things which is harmonious. The symmetric concept in designing interior elements shows the existence of the symbolic and harmonious meanings. The concept is the manifestation of balance aiming at attaining the harmony of life, that is, to live harmoniously with each other, with nature, and with God. Key words : Javanese house, interior, meaning

Abstract

Batik encim is the term used to be worn by married Chinese ladies. The term batik encim is very popular, especially for Javanese people in northern beach, such as Pekalongan. The existence of batik encim coincides with the trend of batik style that develops in Indonesia, especially in Java. The batik encim is usually the cloth or sarong. It has the function to be matched with the kebaya cloth. In this case, the batik encim style consists of decoration kind or pattern, making region, technique or making process and coloring. Batik encim appears as the expression of people of Chinese descent in coastal area by batik media. Kinds of decorations or patterns on batik encim are taken from the cultural background of Chinese descent, for example Hong bird, dragon, kilin, and butterfly with special coloring suitable with their desire. Visually the product quality of batik encim is very perfect, complicated and soft. The beauty of batik encim is without doubt. The making of batik encim takes a very long process and time: from pretreatment cloth, painting, coloring, and the last processing. Keywords : Batik encim, style, and motif

Abstract

The aims of this research are to find out  the forms of change of codes in the forms and functions in SMS (Short Message Service) discourse.            The population of this research was all of the utterances discovered in SMS language discourse from 2004 up to 2008. The utterances in SMS discovered in some cellular phones Sony Ericcsson K700i, Nokia 3100, Nokia 6030, Nokia 7610, Nokia N 81, Samsung N 620, Samsung E110, Motorola C15, and Sony Ericsson K310i in Surakarta area were used as a sample of this research. The data was collected by observation method of listening and interview with some informants endorsed with a noting technique. The writer directly sent SMS to some participants to validate the data. The data is analyzed by using padan pragmatic method to identify the form and structure of the discourse and the factors influencing SMS language. Identity method  is used to identify and classify lexical and grammatical aspects found in this discourse endorsed with delection and substitution techniques.            The result of this research showed that SMS language was a written discourse in the form of a dialogue between a speaker and interlocutor making use of the facilities in cellular phones. The internal change of code covered : the change of code of Indonesia standard variant into Indonesia non-standard variant , the change of code of Indonesia non-standard variant into Indonesia standard variant. The external change of code covered :  the change of code of Indonesia language into Kromo (high level of Javanese language), the change of code of Indonesia language into Madya (mid level of Javanese language), the change of code of Ngoko (low level of Javanese language) into Indonesia language,  the change of code of Javanese language into English,  the change of code of Kromo (high level of Javanese language) into English,  the change of code of Ngoko (low level of Javanese language) into English,  the change of code of Indonesia language into English, the change of code of non-standard Indonesia language into English, the change of code of Indonesia language into English.
