Abstract

Acute limb ischemia (ALI) is one of vascular emergency. It is defined as a rapid and sudden decrease in limb blood flow due to acute occlusion It is considered to be acute if it occurs within 14 days after the first symptom onset. The incidence of ALI is around 1.5/10.000 people per year. It has reported a mortality rate of 15%-20% in 30 days and high amputation rates 10%-15% if appropriate treatment not administered. The causes of ALI are divided into embolism and thrombosis. Thrombosis can occurred due to atherosclerotic lesion while most cases of embolism are cardiogenic one. Classic features of ALI are known as 6Ps: pain, pallor, paralysis, paraesthesia, pulselessness, poikilothermia. A good history taking and physical examination are needed to assess further treatment needed. Severity of ALI also need to be set based on Rutherford Classification. If the limb was diagnosed as irreversible damage, amputation should be taken as treatment choice without hesitation. ALI can be treated with administered of heparin, endovascular and open surgical. Post treatment follow up also needed to rule out any possible complication such as compartment syndrome and ischemic-reperfusion injury.

Abstract

Introduction: The process of aging that occurs in elders will decrease their physiology functions, such as their lack of sleep, both timewise and quality-wise. This situation will cause sleep problems in elders, such as insomnia. Insomnia could be treated by using both pharmacology and non-pharmacology. Lavender aromatherapy treatment is one of the nonpharmacology relaxation therapies that could help manage insomnia in older adults. Aim: Knowing the difference of insomnia levels before and after the lavender aromatherapy treatment in elders. Methods: This examination is using Quasi Experiment of the treatment group and the control group. Furthermore, the idea of this experiment is to use a pre-test and post-test control group design approach. For sample earnings, consecutive sampling technique is used by picking a sample that is qualified for inclusion criteria, and that is not included in the exclusion criteria. Thus, the minimum sample could be fulfilled. The statistics test is using a Chi-Square test. Result: The result of insomnia level before and after aromatherapy treatment using the ChiSquare analysis (p=0,000) shows that there isa difference that is due to the intervention. In the treatment group, there were 14 participants with mild insomnia and seven participants with severe insomnia. The result shows that 14 participants did not have insomnia, and seven other participants have mild insomnia. Meanwhile, the control group shows no difference in their insomnia, but decreasing in their score. Conclusion: Elders with lavender aromatherapy treatment for one week have shown declining insomnia level from severe to mild, and for the mild level of insomnia problems become cured, However, those who were given placebo shows no difference.

Abstract

Introduction: Cervical cancer is a malignancy in women with the number one mortality and number two morbidity in the world. As many as 77% cases are found in developing countries, including Indonesia. Although deadly, screening programs can reduce the morbidity and mortality of this malignancy. Visual Inspection with Acetic Acid (VIA) is a cervical premalignancy screening method used in primary health care in Indonesia. Smoking is one of risk factor associated with cervical cancer and data from GATS, Infodatin 2015 & Riskedas 2013 states that the number of passive smokers in Indonesia is high. Aim: The objective of this research is to look for the correlation between history of passive smoker and positive VIA Methods: This research is a retrospective cross sectional analytic study. The data used in this study is the medical records of VIA screening visitors in 2016. The data were extracted on the research questionnaire. Data processing is done by using SPSS Statistics 23 For Windows computer software. The test is Chi Square correlation test and calculation of Prevalence Ratio (PR). Result: 55 women (24.7%) had a history of passive smoking (daily cigarette smoke exposure), and 168 women (75.3%) had no daily cigarette smoke. 21 women (9.4%) received positive results, and 202 women (90.6%) received negative IVA. In the Pearson Chi-Square section, the Asymptotic Significance (2-sided) yielded results at 0.042 (p

Abstract

Introduction: Herbal medicine is starting to become an alternative to treating various diseases. Based on proven research, olive plants (Olea europaea) have the potential to inhibit the growth of bacteria that causes infections. Drugs to treat bacterial infections are antibiotics, and high exposure to antibiotics could increase the possibility of resistance. At the end of the 1940s, it was shown that 28% of the Staphylococcus aureus (S. aureus) bacteria were already resistant to penicillin. Several classes of antibiotics have been created to deal with S. aureus infections. Still, these bacteria show their unique ability to respond quickly to some of the new antibiotics in producing resistance effect. That is why we need another alternative to overcome infections caused by these bacteria. Aim: The purpose of this study is to know the effect of olive (Olea europaea) stem methanol extract as an antibacterial against Staphylococcus aureus bacteria. Methods: This study uses an experimental study with the broth microdilution method, using extract concentrations of 200-51.200 µg/mL. Minimum Inhibitory Concentration (MIC) values were obtained from the results of spectrophotometer reading, and Minimum Bactericidal Concentration (MBC) was obtained from the results of streaking on agar media. Result: In this study the MIC value at a concentration of 200-51.200 µg/mL could not be evaluated because it showed no linear lines, and the MBC value was not found. But there was a reduction in the number of colonies at a concentration of 51.200 µg/mL by approximately 50%. Conclusion: Methanol extract of olive stems proved to have no antibacterial effect against Staphylococcus aureus bacteria at concentrations of 200-51.200 µg/mL.
