Abstract

This study aims to determine mathematical communication ability and self-regulated learning mathematics of IX grade students of SMP Negeri 2 Cilamaya Kulon Karawang on circle material and circle tangents. This research is a qualitative descriptive study, where the object of research is class IX students as many as 35 students. This research was conducted on November 20, 2018. The research technique was in the form of a test of 6 items test questions of mathematical and non-test communication ability in the form of a questionnaire with 40 items of self regulated learning mathematical statements and interviews. The results of this study are mathematical communication ability of students classified as moderate with a reliability coefficient of 0.9793 (very high category), having a mean difficulty index of 0.539 (medium category), and a mean differentiation of 0.485 (good category). Student constraints when working on mathematical communication problems on circle material and tangent circle are students who are less able to analyze the core of the problem, students do not understand the form of non-routine questions (mathematical communication), students are confused in determining completion strategies, students cannot visualization, students do not know the terms in mathematics, as well as procedural errors in progress. While for self regulated mathematics students have a good category.

Abstract

The purpose of this study is to examine the achievement and improvement of junior high school students' mathematical communication ability using discovery learning models and props of statistical kenik compared to students who use ordinary learning, and student activities during learning using discovery learning models and props of statistical kenik to take place. This study used a quasi-experimental design. The experimental group obtained learning with discovery learning models and props of statistical kenik and control groups obtained regular learning. The instrument used was a test of mathematical communication ability. The population in this study were all eighth grade students of SMP Negeri 2 Cilamaya Kulon Karawang. With the sample subjects were eighth grade students as many as two classes from the five existing classes randomly selected. The results of this study are: (1) There is achievement and improvement of mathematical communication ability between students whose learning uses discovery learning models and props of statistical kenik compared to students who use ordinary learning; (2) Learning by using discovery learning models and visual aids shows that the learning process is more effective in mathematical problems solving and students can find statistical material concepts.

Abstract

This study was a descriptive survey having a goal to examine attainment of student’s mathematical reasoning (MR) and  self regulated learning(SRL) according to  student’s cognitive stage. The survey   implicate  36 eleventh grade students of  17... years old,  test of logical thinking (TOLT), an essay  MR test,a  SRL scale. By using TOLT, the survey investigated  many students with 17 years old had not reached formal cognitive stage, namely 19 %  students at formal stage, 25 % students at transition stage, and  rest 56% students at concrete stage. In addition, survey invented that entirely students obtained MR at very low grade level, and according to student’s cognitive stage, formal students obtained higher grade MR than the grade of transisiton students and concrete students. Even if, those grades were still at low and very low level. Either entirely or based on student’s cognitive stage  there were no different grades on student’s SRL and those grade were fairly good level. SRL at fairly good grade level, transistion stage students attained  MR and SRL at medium grade Other finding, there was medium association between cognitive stage and MR, but therewere no association between cognitive stage and MR, and SRL and between MR and SRL. In general, these findings were, that in normal condition formal cgnitive stage will reach by students in 12 -13 years old, or in 13-14 years old, even in specific condition in 19 – 20 years old; and that formal students possess higher abilities than concrete students on completing HOT tasks such as MR tasks which needed formal operational thinking.

Abstract

Experimental learning invites students to play an active role during the learning process based on life experiences that can be applied into four stages, namely concrete experience, observation, conceptualization and application. conventional, 2) knowing the improvement of mathematical reasoning abilities of students who get learning using the experiential learning method better than conventional learning. The method used in this study is the experimental method by taking a sample of this study is the seventh grade students of SMP Negeri 2 Klangenan in Cirebon Regency. Implementation data with an experimental learning model was obtained through observation sheets and students' mathematical reasoning abilities were obtained through description tests. The results of the study for four meetings showed that there was an increase in the average results of the pretest and posttest. From the results of statistical tests of gain scores obtained from the results of the pretest and posttest on students' mathematical reasoning abilities the average (ẋ) gain for the experimental class is 0.64 with a standard deviation (s) = 0.6 based on these results. that students' mathematical reasoning abilities using experiential learning are better than students who are conventional learning.

Abstract

This research aims to elucidate how the relations between the ability of mathematical creative thinking with the learning interest of students in learning using the method of discovery learning through reciprocal teaching approach. The methods used in this research is a method of experimentation with the design of the control group pretes postes. The population in this research is the entire SMAN in Cimahi City, whereas samples randomly taken class. Class XI IPA 1 was selected as experiments class and Class XI IPA 2 was selected as the class of the control. Experiments Class given learning method using discovery learning through reciprocal teaching approach while the control classes are given convensional learning. Research results showed the existence of a significant relationship between the ability of mathematical creative thinking and learning interest of students in learning mathematics.
