Abstract

Referring to the objectives of learning mathematics and NCTM, one of the abilities that must be developed is the ability to understand mathematics. The importance of having the ability to understand mathematics includes this ability listed in the learning of mathematics in the 2006 KTSP mathematics curriculum and the 2013 curriculum. This study aims to examine the increased understanding  of the material concept of derivatives of algebraic functions in class XI high school students. This type of research is classroom action research. This research was conducted on class XI high school students for the 2020/2021 academic year, consisting of 16 students. The instrument used is a test of students' mathematical understanding abilities, in the form of 6 questions that focus more on students' understanding abilities regarding the derivative of algebraic functions; observation sheet for teachers and students to see the condition of the implementation of the action. This study shows that students' mathematical understanding abilities have increased as seen from the questions tested on each test with an increase in mastery from initially 31.25% to 56.25%. The results of this study indicate that the application of a scientific approach can improve the comprehension skills of class XI students on material derived from algebraic functions.

Abstract

Mathematics is a field of study that plays an important role in the world of education. Mathematics as a science that must be mastered because it supports and is interelated with other subjects. The background of writing this article is the low ability of students to solve mathematical problems. This research was conducted because there are still many teacher centered learning acitivities. To improve the ability to solve the need for an approach model that an be developed to position students as learning centers is the application of scientific models.the scientific approach is an approach aimed at students. In learning activities direct students to be active and understand the concept. This study aims to apply a scientific approach to Dharma Kartini Junior High School students. The research target was class VIII with a 28 students on the subject matter of a two variable linear equation system. The research conducted was classroom action research.Classroom action research trains critical, systematic thinking, starting from planning, implementing, observing and reflecting. This study provided instruments, namely pre-test and post-test in the form of 5 questions of problem solving abilities to students which were carried out in 2 cycles. The research results obtained for the first cycle showed that students mastery of mathematical concepts was still not good. Therefore, proceed to the next stage, namely the second cycle. Based on the implementation of learning in the second cycle, a very significant increase was obtained. Thus it can be concluded that the scientific approach can be applied in learning to improve problem solving abilities in the matter of a system of two variable linear equations.

Abstract

This research is motivated by the ability of mathematical understanding of students in Indonesia is still relatively low, students find it difficult to understand abstract mathematical concepts and mathematical understanding is not fully optimized and can be said to be still lacking, this condition is caused by a tendency to memorize and a little introduction to what is useful from the mathematical material studied. The purpose of this study is to implement a scientific approach to students' mathematical comprehension abilities. This research is a Classroom Action Research (PTK) using a spiral model from Kemmis and McTaggart with the stages being plan, action, observation or observation, and reflection for each cycle. The subjects in this study were grade VII students of Nur Al Rahman IT Junior High School for the 2022/2023 academic year with a total of 20 students. The material used is algebraic. The instrument used is a test instrument consisting of 7 mathematical understanding questions. The results of this study stated that students' mathematical understanding increased as evidenced by the increase in the percentage of question achievement indicators after 2 learning cycles. The percentage of cycle I results is low at 49%, while the percentage for cycle II is 81%. Based on the results of the study, the author concludes that implementing a scientific approach is an effort that can be done in the learning process to see or improve students' mathematical understanding.

Abstract

Mathematical understanding ability is a very important skill for students to achieve, because mastering mathematical involves more than just remembering formulas and knowing how to count, understanding concepts is also needed. But in reality, understanding skills are still low, students are still mostly fixated on existing formulas and examples given by the teacher. The purpose of this study was to see the improvement of mathematical understanding ability of VII students on Algebra material at Dharma Kartini Junior High School. This research uses classroom action research (CAR). The method used the spiral model of action research from Kemmis and McTaggart. The instrument used was a test instrument consisting of 10 questions of algebra material which was prepared based on the mathematical understanding ability of students whose learning used a scientific approach. This research was conducted in 2 cycles, each cycle consists of several stages starting from the planning, action, observation and reflection stages. The results of this study indicate that the aspects of students' mathematical understanding ability have increased as seen from the increasing percentage achievement on the question indicators after 2 learning cycles, namely in cycle I by 48% and cycle II by 78%. It is known that algebra material in class VII students of Dharma Kartini Junior High School can be influenced by the scientific approach with mathematical understanding ability. As more and more students showing understanding they can conclude and explain back what they have learned.

Abstract

The aim of this study is to analyze students' interest in learning mathematics using open-ended approach with the help of software geogebra. This study used a qualitative descriptive method, with 29 students from 8th grade in SMP Negeri 36 Bandung as subjects, consisting of 14 male students and 15 female students. The data collection technique uses a questionnaire on the scale of students' interest in learning mathematics using an open-ended approach with the help of software geogebra. There are 18 statements consisting of nine positive statements and nine negative statements. The data collected from this study is processed using Microsoft Excel by calculating the average percentage of each indicator scale of student interest in learning. The results of data processing show that students have an interest in learning mathematics using open-ended approach with the help of software geogebra included in the very good category, namely obtaining an average percentage of 80.95%. The average is obtained from each index of student interest in learning. Used of the method purposed is proven to be very helpful for students in building interest in learning in mathematics.

Abstract

The reality on the ground shows that students still make mistakes in solving problems in the form of Linear Program stories. This study aims to describe students' mistakes in solving word problems in linear programming material. The method used in this research is descriptive qualitative research. The subjects in this study were class X students of Karya Bahana Vocational School, Bekasi City. The instrument in this study was in the form of 5 questions in the form of descriptions. In addition to the instrument in the form of tests, interviews were used to dig deeper into students' answers to the questions presented. The results showed that the most errors made by students were in the aspect of errors in writing the final answers, and the fewest errors were in the aspects of transformation errors. The cause of reading errors is that students are unable to interpret sentences correctly and cannot find key words and important information. The cause of the error in understanding the problem was that students did not include the known data and the data asked. The causes of errors in the transformation are students not being able to model everyday sentences into mathematical symbols and errors in using mathematical operations. The cause of the process skill error was that the student was unable to write down the objective function and the student was unable to continue with the answer, while the cause of the error in writing the final solution was the inability of the student to draw conclusions correctly.

Abstract

The aim of the research is to develop teaching materials assisted by media construct 2 software that are practical and appropriate for use in the learning process. The research method used is Research and Development (R&D) using the ADDIE model. The research was conducted at SMPN 3 Rancabali  with 12 class VIII students at Rancabali 3 Middle School for limited trials and 9 students at SMPN 2 Rancabali and 9 students at SMPN 1 Rancabali Public for a wider trial and 27 VIII C class students as an experimental class and 27 class VIII A students as the control class for product trials. The validators consist of ICT experts, subject matter experts and teachers. The data collection technique was in the form of a response questionnaire from students and teachers. The research results of the products developed were in accordance with the ADDIE research method with product feasibility categories based on ICT expert validation of 81.25%, material experts 85% and teachers 88% are all included in the very decent category. Products that have been validated are then tested on students through limited trials, wider trials and product trials and students are given practicality questionnaires with a final average result of 83.56% included in the very practical category. Based on the validation results of ICT experts, material experts and student and teacher responses, it was concluded that the teaching materials assisted by the media construct 2 software are valid and appropriate for use in learning. For further research, the researcher hopes to be able to develop teaching materials better according to the suggestions from the respondents.
