Abstract

Sea kale (Ipomoea pescaprae) is one of the Indonesian medicinal plants used by the community to treat inflammation, diuretic disorders, and pain in gonorrhea. Sea kale can also be used as a source of natural antioxidants that can counteract free radicals. Sea kale contains secondary metabolites such as alkaloids, flavonoids, tannins and saponins. This study aims to determine the antioxidant activity of cream preparations containing sea kale leaf extract against DPPH(1.1-diphenyl-2-picrylhydrazyl) and to find out what concentration of sea kale leaf extract cream has the highest activity as an antioxidant. Sea kale (Ipomoea pescaprae) was extracted by maceration method using methanol solvent and then preparations were made in cream form using various extract concentrations, namely 5%, 7.5% and 10%. Furthermore, evaluation of cream preparations was carried out, namely organoleptic test, homogeneity test, spreadability test, pH test, viscosity test and cream type test. Determination of antioxidant activity was carried out using the DPPH method and vitamin C as a comparison by calculating the IC50 value. IC50 results obtained in formula I with 5% extract of 237.63 ppm (Medium), formula II with 7.5% extract of 91.83 ppm (Strong) and formula III with 10% extract of 7.32 ppm (Very strong). Meanwhile, the positive control for vitamin C had an IC50 value of 5.33 ppm (very strong). Formula III is the best formula that has very strong antioxidant activity.

Abstract

Various efforts have been made in the field of reproductive health, especially in disaster situations. However, the distribution of available reproductive health services is still uneven, with limited access to services and a restricted understanding of reproductive health. This situation is further exacerbated by social and cultural barriers within the community. The primary objective of this research is to assess the efficacy of employing animated videos as an educational tool for enlightening adolescents about reproductive health amid disaster situations. The research design adopts a quasi-experimental approach utilizing a pretest-posttest group framework. A total of 40 participants were divided into two categories: the experimental group and the control group. The former was exposed to animated video content coupled with interactive discussions, while the latter adhered to conventional techniques involving PowerPoint presentations and lecture-style discussions. Prior to the dissemination of information, a preliminary test was conducted, followed by a subsequent test using identical questionnaires. Data analysis hinged on the T-test methodology. The outcomes of the study indicate that the utilization of animated videos notably amplifies adolescents' comprehension of reproductive health within disaster contexts (p = 0.043). Further research is imperative to delve into the efficacy of animated videos as informative instruments addressing health concerns within communities, encompassing a broader domain.

Abstract

Stunting is a serious public health problem, especially in developing countries, including Indonesia. This study aims to examine the relationship between parental knowledge, parenting patterns, and economic conditions in efforts to prevent stunting in children. The results showed a significant correlation between parental knowledge about nutrition and healthy parenting practices. Parents with better knowledge tend to practice better parenting, such as providing nutritious food and better health care for their children. In addition, family economics also plays an important role in stunting prevention. Families with stable economic conditions have better access to quality food and health services necessary for optimal child growth and development. This study underscores the importance of education and counselling to parents on nutrition and healthy parenting as the first step in stunting prevention. In addition, efforts to improve families' access to economic resources are also needed to address this stunting issue. Awareness, education and social support are important factors in ensuring that children grow well and avoid stunting.

Abstract

Early Breastfeeding Initiation (IMD) is an important aspect in the care period for mothers and newborns. In this case, family support has a very important role, and can support the implementation of early breastfeeding initiation. The purpose of this research is to identify and examine the association between family support and the beginning, maintenance, and development of breastfeeding in moms who have recently had a cesarean section. This study collects data using a quantitative research design and cross-sectional methodology by use of questionnaires and observation. Forty postpartum moms who underwent cesarean sections at PKU Muhammadiyah Hospital in Mojoagung, Jombang Regency, participated in the study. Statistical software was used to analyse and analyze the data through the Chi-square test. Early breastfeeding is associated with higher levels of family support, as shown by a p value of 0.024 (where the value is 0.05) and a significance level of 0.05. Within an hour after giving birth, 23 of the women who had family support were able to do IMD, but just 2 of the women who did not have family support were able to. Early breastfeeding in postpartum women may be more likely if they have strong family support. This support can take the form of emotional support, information and physical assistance in helping mothers to initiate early breastfeeding. Therefore, the role of the family in providing adequate support from the start of labor is very important to improve IMD practices and provide optimal health benefits for the baby.
