Abstract

This writing will specifically explore the thought ofTGH Umar Kelayu a teacher of teachers in Lombok and surrounding area. TGH Umar Kelayu is well known in various Islamic studies, such as Quran, hadits, tauhid, tasawuf, nahwu, sharaf, balaghah. By focusing in text called Manzarul Amrad ff Bayani Qith 'atin Mina! I tiqddi can be concluded that the tauhid's thought ofTGH Umar Kelayu is including to Ahlussunnah wal Jama' ah, i.e. based on the Asy' ariyah and Maturidiyah. According to the content of basic tauhid's material of the text, the target audiences ofTGH Umar Kelayu are the common Muslim, since the basic tauhid is important to the Muslims. The text Manzalu Al-Amradi fi Bayani Qith 'atin min al- 'Iqtiqddi explicates tauhid briefly in three divisions. First part explains wajib, mustahil, and jaiz character ofAllah; second part explains wajib, mustahil, and jaiz character of the prophet; and third part explains the rukun iman. All this parts are explained briefly, shortly, and clearly with their dalil naqli and aqli with the real examples.

Abstract

Through his magnum opus, The Structure of Scientific Revolutions, Thomas Kuhn formed an idea of scientific development framework throughout the shifting paradigm by its stage and hierarchy that are capable to revolutionize history and philosophy of science. This scientific development's model that Kuhn presented is important espe• cially when it is placed in epistemological outline, therefore to find its relevance in various scientific fields, as well as in Islamic sciences. In Quranic studies for example, Kuhn's theory could be converted into a theoretical frame to analyze shifting paradigm of Quranic interpretation from various periods. This writing in particular examines this issue, i.e. the relevance ofThomas Kuhn's scientific revolution's theory in Quranic studies. The early assumption of this study is that the Quranic interpreters definitely employ paradigm intheir analysis, because it is inherently in their interpretation theory, intentionally or not, be used in constructing an interpretation.

Abstract

The Sufi healing is an alternative therapy model which is practicing by adopting the practices and values of tasawuf as a medium of healing/anticipation. This therapy is common in the society, i.e. indeveloping Sufism tradition. The practical tasawuf practices, such as sholat, dzikir, tafakur (meditation), are not just rituals without meaning; however, in this Sufi practices, there is healing potencies to the illness that cannot be cured by modem medical world, such as cancer, stroke, many mental and psychological illnesses. The basic principle in the Sufi healing is the cure is only come from Allah the all healer. This writing tries to examine healer practice using Sufi model practicing by Kyai Tamo, a society leader who is active in Sufi world. This kyai who is living in Purworejo tries to introduce tasawuf to society by Sufi healing. This healing practice by Kyai Sutamo seems appealing to society, so that his practical place always filled by patients who are came by many kinds of illnesses

Abstract

Alienation is a term that has been used by many thinkers in the past, including Hegel and Karl Marx. Every thinker gives its meaning differently. Hegel supposed that this alienation's discussion is important in relation  to the emerging  of consciousness or the feeling towards the otherness. Karl Marx discussed about alienation when he concerned about the fate of labors that had been exploited by the bourgeoisies. It is explained in this article,  Fromm has been influenced by both thinkers, but he also criticized them that their applications to solve human alienation conditions always find the deadlock because  they simply focused to single aspect only. Fromm proposed  an idea that to heal the ill modem society; they should  perform the change not only in single aspect oflife but also the change  in all aspects simultaneously such as industry and political organization,  spiritual, philosophical orientation, human character structure and cultural activity. Fromm assumed that to create healthy society, it starts from the self awareness. This is identical to human nature as the aware and foremost creature.

Abstract

Tasawuf Akhlaqi is a doctrine that explains the moral side from a person who performs taqorrub to her/his God by practicing Riyyadah self purification from bad morality. One discourse in tasawwuf akhlaqi which is most inspiring to the development to the better social life is mahabbah proposed by Rabi' ah al-' Adawiyyah and ma 'rifah proposed by Dzu al-Nun al Mishri and al-Ghazali. Both concepts appear having orientation to individual piety ofits actor. However, by the basic thought that culture and social dynamic are situated in dialectical process between its individual that able to give influence to their society, mahabbah and ma 'rifali that become a feature of individual piety are able to become the social or collective piety in the condition of the ability ofits actor to translate both concept that conformable with its nature and purpose.

Abstract

The relation between science and religion in the recent years is still interesting to study. The long history ofboth sides had created complex relation, harmony and disharmony. Nevertheless, the issue concerning relation between science and religion is not always created by conflict and tension. Many individual tries to connect them and the other supposes that there is no connection between them; both are different entities, having separate territory as a formal-material object (ontology), research method (epistemology), and their role (axiology). This writing tries to elaborate methodologically a scientist thought, Ian G Babour, which is brilliantly propose a relation pattern that can explicate the relation between science and religion, i.e. in form of conflict, independent, dialogue, or integration. From this fourth relation, Ian G Babour takes his place in position of dialogue and integration.

Abstract

Muhammad Arkoun is a contemporary Muslim philosopher. Among all his original ideas, his endeavor to reform the Islamic religiosity to become the modem and hu• mane religiosity, seems distinguished in his works. This effort will be projected by Zuhri in this writing. It appears in this task, as it explores in this writing, Arkoun proposed a lexiconographicalmethod or lexiconology,the compilation and the implant of ideas. The lexiconographical method is a method that tries to portrait the use and words choosing in the text so that it demonstrates universal meanings that surpass the space and time. While by the compilation's method, Arkoun performed regrouping ideas of the sentences within the text. The power of this method is situated in the unity of the idea that built in that text. Whereas by the implant of ideas, Arkoun provided thinking thematic branch to be implanted to a stem and a root of idea that already in the text so that creates a unity in one perspective that emerge contextual understanding which have thinking roots and solid argumentation. From the side ofmaterial ideas, by that reading's method, Arkoun tried to redefine the relation between the aware• ness, religion, rationality,culture, history and human/humanity.

Abstract

As a popular issue recently, the fundamentalism is more understood as a movement within a sect, school or religion that striving to return to what they believe as the fundamentals or the foundations. The groups followed this idea are often involved conflict with another groups even within their own religion for the reason that their missions are to get rid ofthe impurities ofreligion. In positive meaning, "fundamentalist" is a term referring to a movement that revival or purify the religion. As stated in this writing, in Islam this fundamentalist movement is also increased, as a study by W. Montgomery Watt.According to Watt the Islamic fundamentalist group is the Muslim group that accepting traditional world view and making an effort to preserve it completely. More over according to Watt, the emerging of fundamentalism in Islam is a kind of encounter to what they call as "the enemy oflslam" in this case is the West. Beside of that, Watt articulated that traditional Muslims are also decline pluralism as a necessity.
