Abstract

There has been an abundant raise in recent years in the concern in using digital games for language learning. Additionally, gaming plays an important role in the everyday lives of youngsters and young adults in developed countries. It is a considerable option for teacher to adapt gaming into language learning since gaming itself became a habit that will easily be adopted into learning. This study will examine gaming opportunities in language learning, and how higher education students benefitting from that. It will employ quantitative research that uses Structured Interview and Online Questionnaire as research Instruments. By the end of the study, higher education students found out that digital game is an easy media to implement in language learning due to their familiarity to digital games. The implementation of digital games excites the students in learning English, and makes a conducive learning situation.

Abstract

Classroom action research is undoubtedly important to be implemented by teachers. Many experts on education have provided enormous rationale bases for the benefits of conducting action research for quality education. However, there have not been many teachers performing it with many different reasons. It is important for any parties who are concerned on quality education to find out teachers’ reasons of not conducting action research. The data could be used to formulate any strategies to promote action research in school practice. However, this paper suggests that finding out why teachers perform action research is not less important. Teachers’ motives of performing action research cannot be separated from the values proposed by idealized concept of action research itself.  Thus it is important to examine closely whether teachers’ perspectives meet with the intended benefits as proposed theoretically.  The findings are useful to give an insight on whether action research needs to be redefined and repositioned in educational practice.

Abstract

The researcher intends to use the scrabble game in teaching English at SMK Negeri 1 Sengah Temila  and it is hoped this teaching can help to increase their vocabulary English easier. This case also attracts the researcher’s attention to conduct a research because the research that has been conducted to investigate this issue was not much enough especially in the Teachers’ Training and Education Faculty at Tanjungpura University. The purpose of this research is to investigate how high is the tenth grade students of SMK Negeri 1 Sengah Temila’s achievement in vocabulary taught by using scrabble game in the academic year 2018/2019. The measurement technique was applied for collecting the data and the descriptive method is used to describe the data. 39 students of class X a and X b out of 70 students (population) were taken as samples. The analysis displays that the average score of the students’ achievement vocabulary taught by using scrabble game is 65.95 in the post-test, 19.61 higher than the one in the pre-test (45.95). The obtained t-value is 11,65, higher than the t-table value, 2.00 (19.61>2.00), indicating that the difference is significant. The figures show that teaching vocabulary by using scrabble game to the tenth grade students of SMK Negeri 1 Sengah Temila in academic year 2018/2019 increased the students’ vocabulary achievement.

Abstract

Since early of 2020 the world has been hit by a virus called the corona virus which was originated from the city of Wuhan, China. Corona virus is a microorganism that causes respiratory problems starting from mild to severe symptoms, the incubation or quarantine period is between 6 to 14 days. All activities are stopped, one of which is the Educational Institution. Schools cannot be implemented face-to-face, but schools must continue to run. Therefore, the Minister of Education and Culture of the Republic of Indonesia through Permendikbud No. 4 of 2020 provides a policy on a series of learning in an emergency situation of the spread of Covid-19, namely distance learning (PJJ) or online learning. Online learning using WhatsApp or the Learning Management System (LMS) media are almost used by teachers and students. This study uses a qualitative method to determine which platforms / media are easily accessible for online learning. The result shows that WhatsApp media is very easy to use in online learning during the pandemic-19. There is 75 % of the respondents use WhatsApp as learning media and only 25 % use LMS. In otherwise, some teachers also stated that online learning felt less effective because of internet signals and data.

Abstract

This research is about Corpus Linguistics, Language Corpora, And Language Teaching. As we know about this science is relatively new and is associated with technology. There are several areas discussed in this study such as several important parts of the corpus, the information generated in the corpus, four main characteristics of the corpus, Types of Corpora, Corpora in Language Teaching, several types that could be related to corpus research, Applications of corpus linguistics to language teaching may be direct or indirect. The field of applied linguistics analyses large collections of written and spoken texts, which have been carefully designed to represent specific domains of language use, such as informal speech or academic writing.

Abstract

This research aims to find out the use of Cooperative Learning model in improving reading ability (Reading Comprehension Skills). This action research was undertaken over a period of three months from the beginning of January 2020 to the end of March 2020 which involved 30 students consisting of 17 male students and 13 female students. Cooperative Learning Model by using the Cutting Passage method was successfully demonstrated by increasing the value of student evaluation results. This method makes students become disciplined in searching for vocabulary before starting learning to understand reading. This method leaves the teacher's habit in delivering material not only using lecture and discussion methods.
