Abstract

Profession as a social role in essence requires social responsibility because its actualization is prone to the conflict of interests. This simply means that profession by nature is value laden. Knowledge of ethical values and understanding of moral maxims concerning professional activities are, therefore, of highly significant for every professional for such professional quality can help a professional to serve his/her clients and society at large responsibly. However, such knowledge and understanding may not viable enough to encourage moral conducts. What is required most for a professional to be met is moral integrity, that is, a quality of moral personality that enables him/her to be consistent in behaving ethically. To this extent, the capacity to internalize moral values and to make them to be one’s own moral character is indispensable. Virtue ethics at this point can help a lot to build such a character.

Abstract

“Quality of Life is increasingly used in many circles, especially in sociopolitical, medical, philosophical and theological sense, without clarifying the exact meaning, so that often it results in confusion. The Catholic Church especially during the Pontificate of Pope John Paul II (cfr.Evangelium vitae 23) gives a deepened meaning by involving the religious and spiritual dimension of man. So one cannot claim the right to die by invoking quality of life just in sociopolitical or medical sense. According to Pope Pius XII (1957) human life must be preserved, not at any cost with extraordinary means, but wirh ordinary means. In 1980 the Congregation for the Doctrine of the Faith did not reject that notion, but used and proprosed another term, namely “Proportionate and disproportionate”, since the first one (“Ordinary and extraordinary”) was misunderstandable, especially because of the progress in medical siences and technologies. So there are legitimate limits of therapy.

Abstract

Beberapa teks Alkitab, seperti Kel. 20:5; 34:7; Bil. 14:18; Ul. 5:9; Yer. 32:18 sepertinya memang menekankan adanya dosa warisan.

Abstract

There is a similar religious ritual activity which can be found in various religious traditions. However, those ritual activities have uniqueness related to local articulation as well as their built construction on it. Although they are differently articulated and practiced, they generally have almost the same meaning. This phenomenon indicates that religions substantially pose similar life orientation namely reaching the goodness now and hereafter. Rites de passage analysis seems to be wise alternative analysis to look at deeply the Muslim religious reality namely “fasting”. Based on this theoretical context, fasting can be discussed in three phases, they are; separation, liminality, incorporation. Each phase has deep meaning for Muslim because it touch not only Muslim’s theological belief but also their social dimension in terms of various happiness expression to welcome and to fulfill the blessing month with pious activities. These all religious practices aim to reach “piety” as new predicate for all people after passing the phase.
