Abstract

The aim of this study was to design a model to improve the quality of e-learning at Farhangian University of Khuzestan Province. For this research, the mixed research method of sequential exploratory type has been used. The statistical population of the research consists of a number of managers and officials of Farhangian University, experts, thinkers and prominent professors of this university. In the qualitative part of the research, sampling was done purposefully and in the quantitative part, the sampling method was stratified-random. The qualitative method of content analysis was used to construct the model and the quantitative descriptive-analytical method was used to test the model and the correlation type based on the structural equation model was used. The results of 15 interviews conducted, through open and axial coding (using Max QDA Pro version software), led to the extraction of 142 concept codes and 12 main categories, which are management and infrastructure, program Courses, objectives, content, educational media, social, cultural and moral factors, economic factors, human factors, interaction, teaching and learning, evaluation and homework and support infrastructure. Given that the T-value for 5 relationships related to the research hypotheses is more than 0.95, this means a good fit of the model.

The instruments of collecting data are by applying two strategies: interview and questionnaires. The results show that the materials used in the 7th semester of English Education Study Program is developed through the implementation of the R&D simplification. The response of questionnaires signified low standard for the students after being analyzed. This results of the study developed ESP Blended Learning Course materials which focused on the following materials: Models and Teaching Strategies in ESP; Language Features: Linguistics and Grammar; Language Skills (Listening, Reading, Speaking, and Writing); Genre Text in ESP (Descriptive Text, Procedure Text, Analytical Exposition Text, and Argumentative Text).

Abstract

The study explored factors that influence financial management in Chegutu District Secondary Schools of Mashonaland West Province, Zimbabwe. The study was stimulated by the serious financial challenges in secondary schools as characterised by failure to follow laid down procedures, disagreements, inadequate training and lack of knowledge by both school heads and SDC members in managing finances. The interpretive paradigm and qualitative approach guided the study. A case study design was adopted and purposively sampled participants constituted five school heads, five School Development Committee chairpersons, five School Development Committee treasurers and five school bursars. Thematically analysed data was collected through semi-structured interviews and document analysis. The findings revealed that manuals and policy circulars influence the way schools formulate their budgets as they give clear steps that should be followed. It also emerged from the study that the school finance committee is responsible for drawing the school budget after consultation with other stakeholders. It was found that training of school heads, School Development Committee members and bursars influence financial management to a larger extent and there is a very strong relationship between financial management training and effectiveness of financial management in secondary schools. The study concluded that good working relationship among stakeholders and lack of knowledge by both school heads and School Development Committee members in managing school finances greatly influence the way they execute their duty of managing school finances. The study recommends further research that explores strategies that can be established for improving the way schools manage finances.

Abstract

This study opens different points of view at chaos/complexity theory (C/CT) which is still a new theory in second language acquisition. Pro. Larsen-Freeman and her colleagues considered a variety of characteristics, C/CT is known as nonlinear dynamics or dynamical system theory that provides a framework for thinking about change over time. Scientists claim that one can see not only the laws of chaos but also those of order, through which a strong explanation for how any collection of components will organize itself and it can be generated in dichotomies. They attempt to rationalize the behavior of large and complex systems, believing they cannot be explained by usual rules of nature

Abstract

Quality education in Zimbabwe has remained one of the major demands in the system. This has therefore seen the majority of both academic and non-academic staff in institutions of higher learning advancing themselves in various courses and programmes. This study hence was conducted to explore opportunities and challenges experienced by adult individuals as they further pursue their studies. It was a case study of one tertiary education institution conducted within the framework of a qualitative research paradigm and also influenced by the human capital theory. Semi structured questionnaires and interviews were used to generate data from 20 participants that were purposively and conveniently targeted for the study. The major findings revealed that staff in tertiary institutions envy to advance themselves education wise. However, their efforts are being derailed by several challenges which unfold themselves socially, academically and economically, among others. The results further revealed that issues of institutions policy on manpower development were a cause of concern. Ultimately the study concluded that continued adult education in the 21st century is quite pivotal despite the challenges that these adults encounter. Recommendations put forth in the study, therefore include reconceptualization of institution policy on manpower development, availing financial resources and a variety of schemes for adult education
