Abstract

The direct compression method is one of the well-known formulation approaches in tablet manufacture. In this method, the active ingredients and additives of the formulation are mixed together and then compressed into tablets using a special device such as a compression machine. This study is a systematic review that aims to explore the formulation and physical evaluation of CTM tablets by direct compression method. The literature search process was carried out on various databases (PubMed, Web of Sciences, EMBASE, Cochrane Libraries, and Google Scholar) regarding the formulation and physical evaluation of CTM tablets by direct compression method. This study follows the preferred reporting items for systematic reviews and meta-analysis (PRISMA) recommendations. The direct compression method enables the manufacture of CTM tablets in a single production step, reducing the complexity and time required. The CTM tablet formulation process using the direct compression method involves homogeneous mixing of the raw materials and direct compression of the mixture into tablets using a compression machine. The direct compression method has advantages in production efficiency, simplicity, and cost-effectiveness, controlling the dosage of the drug contained in the tablet, and physical uniformity of the tablet. However, the direct compression method also has drawbacks, such as the risk of material segregation, difficulty in achieving controlled drug release, and the potential for direct effects on the active ingredients. Physical evaluation of tablets involves measuring the weight, thickness, and diameter of the tablets, as well as hardness or compressive strength tests to ensure the physical quality of the tablets produced. Drug release tests and dissolution tests were carried out to ensure that the CTM tablets released the drug consistently and under control according to regulatory requirements. Stability tests and chemical tests were carried out to check the physical and chemical changes of the tablets during storage and to ensure the integrity and purity of chlorpheniramine.

Abstract

The combination of citric acid-tartaric acid and sodium bicarbonate in effervescent granules has an important role in providing an effervescent effect. Citric acid and tartaric acid are organic acids that can react with sodium bicarbonate when they come in contact with water. This reaction results in the release of carbon dioxide gas, which has a splitting effect and makes the effervescent granules dissolve rapidly in water. Research on the formulation and evaluation of effervescent granules of andaliman fruit ethanol extract with a combination of citric acid-tartaric acid and sodium bicarbonate aims to optimize the stability, solubility, and release of the active ingredients from the granules. This study is an experimental research. Evaluation of effervescent granules is carried out in the form of an organoleptic test. This test can be observed directly from the granules through the shape, color, aroma, and taste produced. Granular specific gravity test, namely real specific gravity, compressed specific gravity, flow rate test, angle of repose test, and compressibility. Tests for dispersion time and pH tests were carried out in this study. FI, FII, and FIII meet the requirements of the organoleptic test, compressibility, flow rate, angle of repose, dispersion time, and pH test. Even though the pH test for the 3 formulas found a pH range of 5.5 to 5.7, but still declared to meet the requirements because it is still close to neutral pH. The best influence on the physical properties of granules effervescent, namely in FIII, as seen in the organoleptic test, flow rate, angle of repose, and dispersion time.

Abstract

An overview of environmental and socio-cultural sanitation is very interesting to explore. Environmental sanitation and the social culture of coastal communities in fishing villages are inseparable aspects of their daily lives. This study aimed to understand the description of environmental sanitation and socio-culture of the coastal community of fishing village, Medan Belawan District, Indonesia, in order to create sustainable and equitable solutions for them. This study is a descriptive observational study. A total of 100 informants were included in this study. Data analysis was carried out univariately to present environmental sanitation and socio-cultural data. Waste processing in the environment is still very bad, where garbage is generally just piled up, and no waste management efforts are carried out. The community also does not have healthy latrines, which shows that sanitation conditions are still not a good report. The majority report also does not have refrigerators as food storage, and the community, in general, has not implemented a clean and healthy lifestyle. The source of clean water and processed drinking water treatment also still show things that are not good. Water sources and processing that are not optimal make the majority of people experience skin problems. The overview of environmental sanitation and the socio-culture of coastal communities in fishing villages shows how important it is to increase efforts to keep the environment clean and maintain cultural values in their daily lives.

Abstract

Nicotine is a specific CYP2A6 substrate found in cigarettes. Nicotine levels in the blood are affected by the metabolic rate of the CYP2A6 enzyme, which is known to have a high level of polymorphism. High levels of nicotine in the blood can result in an increased risk of cardiovascular disease through the mechanism of increasing lipolysis and causing an increase in triglyceride levels in the blood. This study is an observational study conducted on 31 hypertensive men with a history of smoking. The purpose of this study was to determine the frequency of the CYP2A6 allele *4 genes in hypertensive patients with a history of smoking. Result analysis was performed on PCR products using electrophoresis, then the frequency of each allele was determined. The results showed that there was a CYP2A6 allele *4 gene in hypertensive patients with a history of smoking in Yogyakarta with an allele frequency of 62.90%, and only 2 respondents (6.45%) had the CYP2A6*1/*1 genotype or wildtype.

Abstract

Staphylococcus aureus can cause several health problems in the oral cavity, including stomatitis, tooth abscess, soft tissue infections, gingivitis, and periodontitis. The exploration of new therapeutic modalities for Staphylococcus aureus infection is urgent. Staphylococcus aureus has developed resistance to many of the antibiotics commonly used to treat bacterial infections. This study aimed to determine the antibacterial effectiveness of avocado seed extract (Persea americana Mill.) in inhibiting bacterial growth of Staphylococcus aureus in vitro. This study is an in vitro study in which 28 petri dishes have been added with 1-2 oses of bacterial culture Staphylococcus aureus and MHA (Mueller Hinton Agar) were used in this study. There were 7 test groups, namely 0.2% chlorhexidine as a positive control (K1), negative control, DMSO (K2), avocado seed extract treatment group 2%, 4%, 6%, 8%, and 10% respectively as K3-K7. Treatment of avocado seed extract with a concentration of 6% has the ability to grow bacteria Staphylococcus aureus better than the bacterial growth ability of the positive control, chlorhexidine. The increase in extract concentration was in line with the increase in the diameter of the bacterial inhibition zone Staphylococcus aureus. Avocado seed extract (Persea americana mill.) showed effectiveness in inhibiting bacterial growth of Staphylococcus aureus in vitro.

Abstract

Staphylococcus aureus is a type of bacteria that causes infection through the virulence mechanism of biofilm formation, namely forming a layer by removing the matrix as a form of defense from the immune system and from antibacterial agents. This bacterium makes it very easy to form biofilms, thereby reducing the effectiveness of therapy with antibiotics. Red galangal is a spice plant that grows a lot in Indonesia. It is known to contain flavonoids, tannins, and terpenoids, which are thought to have activity in inhibiting biofilm formation. This study aimed to determine the effect of red galangal rhizome extract in inhibiting the formation of biofilms of Staphylococcus aureus bacteria. The method used is the test tube method using crystal violet dye. The results of the tube test method were photographed and quantified into the mean gray value (MGV) found in the Adobe Photoshop CS6 application. The thicker the biofilm is indicated by the lower the MGV value. Red galangal extract was obtained by maceration using 96% ethanol solvent, while the extract concentrations for treatment were 50%, 25%, 12.5%, 6.25%, 3.125%, 1.56%, and 0%. The results of statistical analysis showed that the higher the concentration of the extract, the thinner the biofilm ring formed (Pearson correlation, r = -0.980, p = 0.000). In conclusion, the ethanol extract of red galangal rhizome has the potential to inhibit Staphylococcus aureus biofilm formation with minimal biofilm inhibition at a concentration of 12.5%.
