Abstract

This work provides a thick description of how Filipino househusbands take the role switch as mothers. The lived experiences came from fifteen (15) participants captured through face to face interviews and focus group discussion. Five themes emerged; enduring the role switch which covers the difficulties they must face as ‘Moms’ in order to respond to the needs of their children; stabilizing authority and control encompasses how they maintain the stability of their position as the “man” of the house; keeping marital relationship steady describes the struggles they have to endure just to make the marital relationship smooth sailing; withstanding the feelings of guilt, regret and worry illustrates their frustrations and anxiety towards the role switching; and surviving the stigma demonstrates how they handle negative remarks against their masculinity. Though people conclude that they have easy lives, they withstand the pain of being physically away from their wives, seize the abstractness of motherhood and keep their authority and control intact

Abstract

This work investigated in-depth the structure, management and leadership, human resources, programming and program content, participation and funding of an award winning hybrid community radio in the Philippines which has succeeded to adopt and adapt to digitalization. The shift from the traditional analogue medium to digital is a major transformation for community radio stations in general.  The blending was not made instantly. The change was taken one day at a time backed up by empirical data.  With the decision to go digital, Radyo Kailian as community radios today  and in the years to come therefore, are  faced with bigger expectations,  responsibilities, and commitments. As a hybrid medium,  Radyo Kailian as a CRS is: expected to produce on air and online programs which are acceptable to the standards of its glocal stakeholders; responsible in ensuring that digital tools are utilized essentially, effectively, and creatively; and remain committed to retain it community radio identity despite the alteration in its mode of delivery

Abstract

Corona Virus Disease (COVID-19) caught the world education systems by surprise and inflicted a deep-felt disruption in the previously disadvantaged black schools in South Africa. Even before the outbreak of the pandemic, the previously disadvantaged black South Africans schools experienced an educational resource backlog. These challenges dates back from the days of apartheid where Hendrick Verwoerd, the then minister of native affairs promulgated the Bantu Education Act of 1953 where the provision of substandard education for black people was officialized. This Act was based on the assumption that blacks are inferior in society and thus have to receive an education system which is second-rate. The aim of this conceptual argument is to present the critical and analytical association between the ramifications of the Bantu Education Act of 1953 on the provision of educational resources and the outbreak of COVID-19 pandemic in the previously sidelined black schools. This paper is a conceptual argument and draws from a plethora of extant literature and is undergirded by theory of social justice as advocated by John Rawls. Further the paper also locates its thesis from Nancy Frasers’ conceptions of social justice. This study is crucial in contributing to the body of knowledge on the provision of educational resources in schools and in particular-conscientize relevant education authorizes in the South African context to seriously address educational backlog in previously disadvantaged black schools.

Abstract

: It is not accidental that the cross is used as the symbol for Christianity. The cross actually epitomizes the execution of God’s salvific plan for humanity through the life, ministry and crucifixion of Jesus, the Christ. As the African church strives to contextualize the Christian faith and make it more meaningful and relevant to the existential realities of the African society, there is the need to develop and promote a Christian theology of the cross from both biblical and African religio-cultural perspectives. This paper addresses this theological need by exploring how an understanding of the theology of the cross from an African evangelical Christian perspective might function to decolonize Christianity and consequently, facilitate the spiritual growth of African believers. A literature-based research methodology was used to analyze data obtained from books, journal articles and theses/dissertations related to the subject matter. The paper concluded with implications of the theology of the cross for the ecumenical Christian community.

Abstract

To document the current circumstances of the salt farmers in Ilocos Sur, Philippines and to confirm if in this side of the country, salt-making is really a ‘dying’ industry, the study used the multiphase case study design. The continuing situation of salt production in the context of the two communities covered in this study, as a low productivity, low-income industry characterized by the presence of a growing intergenerational gap in the transfer of knowledge, skill, and practice in salt making indicates an impending total weakening, if not dying, of the industry in the coming years. Its existence for years without expanding despite its potentiality in sustaining the financial and socio-economic needs of the salt-makers signifies its stunting status, obviously needing an immense recalibration both in the salt makers’ and the government’s mindset of development, process, and technological use.

Abstract

In Nigeria, domestic violence against men is uncommon. Aside from providing security and emotional support, a family should provide the safest environment for a child to grow. Domestic violence, on the other hand, is prevalent in Nigerian families and societies. Domestic violence was previously thought to be perpetrated by men against women, and that men were not victims of domestic violence in any way. According to recent studies, domestic violence against men in Nigeria is no longer a rarity, but rather a reality with varying degrees of consequences for individuals and society as a whole. It is against this backdrop that the researcher investigates the silent problem of domestic violence against men in Nigeria, the unspoken truth about gender-based violence. The purpose of this article is to examine the various sources of domestic violence against men and the importance of ethics in human relationships. The qualitative analysis method was used in this study to reveal the existence of domestic violence against men in Nigeria. As a result, the research relied on secondary sources such as journals, text, and internet sources. The concept of violence and domestic violence were examined, as well as domestic violence against men in Nigeria and the discrimination of victims. Hence, the study recommends, amongst others, that professionals such as social workers, psychologists, and counsellors should be included among the court officials who assist the magistrate in elaborating on the type of abuse the victims may be experiencing
