Abstract

Economics is the study of how humans choose and create wealth. Through economics, humans can think and make decisions in allocating their resources appropriately. The limited availability of the variety of questions used in microeconomics courses has encouraged researchers to compile scientific-based Student Activity Sheets (LKM) and Problem Based Learning (PBL). The purpose of this study is to describe (1) feasibility, (2) effectiveness, and (3) practicality of developing scientific-based Student Activity Sheets (LKM) and Problem Based Learning (PBL) in the Introduction to Microeconomic Theory course. This type of research is development research. using the Borg and Gall (1983) model. The trial subjects in this development research were students of the economic education study program. The results showed that the percentage of development feasibility was 94% in the very feasible category, the percentage of effectiveness showed that students obtained a learning mastery score above 75% in the effective and complete category, and the practicality percentage obtained a score of 99.5 in the practical category. It can be concluded that the development of the Student Activity Sheet is feasible to apply.

Abstract

The study identified challenges confronts customers using pre-paid meters within Ile-Ife Metropolis, relevance of prepaid meter usage over the post-paid meter usage within Ile-Ife Metropolis and the level of customer satisfaction with respect to pre-paid meter usage. The study used descriptive research designs. The population for the study consisted 17,551. The sample for the study consisted 204 prepaid user customers selected using stratified sampling techniques. The sample was calculated using Fishers (1995) which has ideal formula for targeted population. The instrument used for the study was questionnaire namely “Customer Education and Satisfaction of Prepaid Meter Usage in Ibadan Electricity Distribution Company”. Cronbach Alpha (?) was used to test validity of the research instrument. The output gave Reliability Statistics which showed Cronbach's alpha of 0.701. Data collected were be analyzed using inferential statistics. The results showed that majority at 32.4% (66) of the sampled users of prepaid meters agreed that there has been no disconnection, and there is no need to pay a re-connection fee when using prepaid meter while 18.6% strongly disagreed with the claimed; the system is disadvantageous to the poor and showed that 5.9% (12) of the sampled customers highly dissatisfied with the respect to prepaid meter usage in Ile-Ife, 17.6 % (36) dissatisfied with the prepaid meter usage while 38.7% (79) of the customers satisfied with the usage of prepaid meter and 37.7 % (77) of the customers highly satisfied with the usage of prepaid meter in Ile-Ife. The study concluded that IBEDC should sensitizing the customers before introducing prepaid meters to them for this would enhance the level of customer satisfaction.

Abstract

The purpose this study was to determine whether undergraduate students’ testwiseness and access to digital devices are key factors critical to enhancing their attitude towards Computer-Assisted Testing (CAT) in some selected Universities in the North-west geo-political zone of Nigeria. It also examined if a significant difference existed in undergraduate students’ attitude to CAT in Universities in the North-west Nigeria. These were with a view to improving the CAT outcome directed towards certifying the quality in education by the Nigerian universities. The study adopted a descriptive survey research design. The sample consisted of an intact class of 5,880 Part I undergraduate students selected from federal and state-owned Universities in the North-west. A self-developed instrument tagged: “Undergraduate’s Testwiseness Digital Accessibility and Attitude Inventory (UTDAAI)”, was used to collect data. Data were analysed using Stepwise Multiple Regression and independent t-test statistics. The results revealed that testwiseness and digital accessibility are not significantly combined to influence undergraduate students’ attitude to CAT in Universities in the North-west Nigeria. However, there existed a positive significant relationship between testwiseness and digital accessibility. Further, there was no significant sex difference in undergraduate students’ attitudinal disposion to CAT in Universities in the North-west Nigeria. The study concluded that testwiseness was not a most potent predictor of students’ attitude to CAT irrespective of their access to digital devices in the University. It was recommended that Universities’ Management should invest considerable resources in developing rapid response digital intervention initiatives to support the learning, teaching and assessment transition for undergraduate students in the country.

Abstract

The use of innovative and advance resources like those of Geographical Information Systems (GIS) to for Social Studies can aid the actualization of the aims and objectives of Social Studies education in Nigeria. This theoretical paper pointed out the fact that Geographical Information Systems can be used to achieve quality Social Studies education in Nigeria through exploring available literature to provide a good understanding of the topic under review. The paper adopted an analytical approach through extensive review of literature around the major variables which are Geographical Information Systems and Social Studies. It further discussed the relationship between Social Studies and Geographical Information Systems as well as the benefits which will be accrued to both learners and educators of Social Studies by using them as instructional references for Social Studies lessons. The paper concluded by explaining the benefits of applying Geographical Information Systems resources to Social Studies. These benefits include providing students with visual learning of Social Studies; studying the major themes of Social Studies through a spatial perspective; using stored information for education and applying technology to educational processes as it concerns learning in Social Studies.

Abstract

The study investigated locus of control and self-concept as determinants of internet addiction among public university undergraduates in Oyo State. Four hundred University Undergraduates were selected through stratified random sampling techniques which were used in sampling participants from two selected public universities in Oyo state. To achieve the objectives, the respondents were measured with relevant adopted standardized scales such as the Self-Concept Scale, Locus of Control Scale, and Internet Addiction Scale. Four research hypotheses were tested in the study through Pearson Product Moment Correlation and Multiple Regression analysis. Results showed that there was a significant relationship between locus of control and internet addiction (r=0.12; p<0.05), there was a significant relationship between self-concept and internet addiction (r=0.66; p<0.05), there is a joint effect between locus of control, self-concept and internet addiction (F 2,397 =148.020; p<0.05) while locus of control do not statistically predict internet addiction (t=0.618, p>0.05) and self-concept statistically predict internet addiction (t=16.942; p<0.05). The study recommends among others that school counselors and policymakers should organize seminars, workshops, and conferences to sensitize the students about the need to have realistic and objective self-assessment and self-concept.

Abstract

This study examined the effect of Low-cost Technology on Secondary School students’ academic performance in Biology. Quasi-experimental research of post-test non-randomized control group design was adopted for this study. This design was adopted to compare the performance of students who were taught the concept of biology with low-cost technology and those taught without the low-cost technology. Two intact classes from two secondary schools were randomly sampled.  The instruments used were Lesson Note (LN), Biology Performance Test (BPT) for data gathering, and Low-Cost Technology (3D Model of Plant and Animal Cells). BPT was subjected to pilot testing and a reliability coefficient of 0.87 was obtained using the Kuder Richardson KR-20. Two research questions and two research hypotheses were formulated for the study. Findings show that the 3D Model of Plant and Animal Cell significantly influences the understanding of the topic “Plant and Animal Cells” among students irrespective of their gender and institutional ownership. Secondary school teachers should make use of those low-cost technological resources available in their environment for the production of instructional materials.
