Abstract

Osteoarthritis (OA) is the most common disease in joints that affects people in their middle until late years. In Indonesia the prevalence of OA is relatively high and disturbs their daily activity. Diclofenac is one of the drug of choice in treating OA. To avoid multiple side effects from Diclofenac use, the usage must be in accordance to rationality indicators which are correct dose, correct frequency, and correct length of use. This study is aimed to know the rationality of Diclofenac use in Osteoarthritis outpatient cases at RSUP Mohammad Hoesin Palembang. This study is a descriptive observational with a cross-sectional approach to know the rationality of Diclofenac use in outpatient cases of osteoarthritis at RSUP Mohammad Hoesin Palembang. Samples were medical records of OA patients in outpatient setting from January to March 2018 which fulfilled the inclusion and exclusion criteria. Sampling technique used was total sampling. The amount of samples fulfilling the inclusion criteria were 201 patients, with the most were aged 46-65 years (60.2%), female (55.7%), and has a history of comorbidity which includes low back pain (22.8%). The result of this study shows pattern of Diclofenac use with dosage of 2 x 25mg (73.6%), length of use about <7 days (57.2%). In combination with other drugs there were no interaction to be found (84.4%), or synergistic interaction (8.5%) and antagonistic interaction (7.1%). The use of diclofenac in osteoarthritis cases at outpatient setting in RSUP Dr Mohammad Hoesin Palembang is rational and needs to be maintained.

Abstract

Scurvy is a rare case found in many countries, but it is often found in refugee areas, especially in Africa. Vitamin C deficiency varies based on season and occurs more in men with age. The purpose of this research is to avoid misdiagnosis so that it can be a reference in the field of medicine to diagnose and provide management on scurvy. This prospective research was conducted with one sample of research. Observation had been carried out for two months, starting at one month after the patient was suspected with the diagnosis of scurvy. Computer Tomography (CT) Scan lumbosacral to pelvic results were normal. Laboratory test of HB result was 9.5 g/dl, in which MCV was 63.2 fL, MCH was 20.3 pg, and MCHC was 32.1 g/dl. Scurvy treatment in the first visit was 3x1 tablets vitamin C, 3x5 ml ibuprofen Syr, and physiotherapy. The results were that the patient still suffered swollen and bleeding gums, but the pain no longer existed, pale, behavioural disorders, unable to walk, and pain in both knees. After the second visit, the child got therapy of 4x50 mg vitamin C, 1x1 tablets vitamin B12, 1x150 IU vitamin E, 1x1 tablets cavit D3, and physiotherapy. After two weeks of treatment, there were no complaints of swelling, painful or bleeding gums. The child could straighten her legs, but she was still unable to walk due to the trauma of feeling great pain while walking. Special attention is required to diagnose appropriately so the doctor can minimize and prevent complications.

Abstract

Prostate cancer is the most common cancer in men worldwide and ranks second in the Laboratory of Anatomical Pathology, Dr. Mohammad Hoesin with the highest incidence, especially at the age of more than 60 years. Factors that play a role as a prognostic factor and therapy in prostate carcinoma, including VEGF. The role of VEGF expression in prostate carcinoma as a prognostic and histopathological factor which is an important predictor for the progression of prostate carcinoma. This study aims to determine the relationship between VEGF expression and Gleason score in prostate carcinoma. This study was a cross-sectional observational study. Thirty samples diagnosed with prostate denocarcinoma were derived from the results of the tranurethral resection of the prostate (TRUP) and prostatectomy. Samples were taken from the archives in the Anatomic Pathology section of Dr. Mohammad Hoesin Palembang (period January 1, 2011 to December 31, 2013. Then the sample was stained with VEGF antibody, identified and analyzed the VEGF relationship with the Gleason.z score. The positivity of VEGF expression in prostate adenocarcinoma tended to be more prevalent in the Gleason score group ≥ 7 (43.3%) than in the Gleason score group <(10%). There was no significant relationship between VEGF expression and high Gleason score (p> 0.05). There was no significant relationship between VEGF expression and Gleason score in prostate adenocarcinoma

Abstract

Diabetes mellitus is a condition in which blood glucose levels increase in a person's body which can result in chronic disorder. The effect of diabetes on a male reproductive system can affect sperm quality and disrupt the spermatogenesis process. Moringa oleifera leaves are rich in antioxidants such as flavonoids, vitamin A, vitamin E, and vitamin C, and contain selenium which helps lower bloodssugar levels. This study was conductedtto determine the effect of administering Moringa oleifera leaf extract on the quality andiquantity ofssperms in Wistar rats with diabetes mellitus. This research is an experimental studyiusing pre-andipost-randomized,controlled group design. This study examinediblood sugarllevels, density, motility, andiviability ofssperm cells. This experimental test was dividediinto 4 groups: one as a control group andtthree groups as treatment groups induced with alloxan and given ethanol extract of Moringa leaves with doses of 250, 500, and,750mg/kgBB. The results showed that the ethanol extract of Moringa leaves showedssignificant improvements in various doses (P-value ≤ 0.05).

Abstract

Tuberculosis is an infectious disease caused by bacteria in the form of rods (bacilli) known as Mycobacterium tuberculosis. This disease is included as a chronic infectious disease. The causes of the increase in TB cases each year are still various. One of them is smoking behavior. A person who smokes will have twice the risk of contracting TB. This study aims to determine the relationship between smoking behavior and the incidence of pulmonary tuberculosis in the work area of the Medan Sunggal Puskesmas in 2019. This study is an analytical study with a cross sectional design. The population of this study were patients with pulmonary TB in the work area of the Medan Sunggal Public Health Center in 2019. The sample size used was 104 people who had met the inclusion and exclusion criteria. In the second study, the data collection tool was through the Puskesmas medical records. Data analysis was performed using the statistical test is chi square. the result showed that there was a relationship between smoking behavior and the incidence of pulmonary tuberculosis in Medan Sunggal Public Health Center with an OR (95% CI) value of 105,125 (13,280-832,161), which means that respondents who smoke will have 105,125 times the risk of suffering from pulmonary tuberculosis compared to non-smoking respondents. From the results of 95% CI, it can be seen that the lower limit and upper limit values (CI values) not include 1.00, so the results of the study are statistically significant at the value of α = 0.001. Smoking behavior has an insignificant relationship with the incidence of pulmonary tuberculosis at Medan Sunggal Puskesmas in 2019. It is recommended that the primary care should provide support and sources of information about smoking habits, especially for patients who have been diagnosed with pulmonary TB.

Abstract

This study aims to determine the effect of paprika ethanol (capsicum annuum) on blood sugar levels of alloxan-induced Wistar rats (rattus norvegicus). This type of research is experimental. The method used was pre test and post test with control group design. The results of this study indicate that for Post Test 1 or after being given treatment for 7 days, the average result shows that there is an effect of giving red paprika ethanol extract on blood sugar levels in Wistar rats where the significant value of each treatment is all less than 0.05. For Post Test 2 or after being given treatment for 14 days, only at a dose of 250 that has no effect on blood sugar levels of the rats, because the significant value is 0.813 greater than 0.05, for other treatments it has a significant effect because the significant value is more smaller than 0.05.
