Abstract

ABSTRACT: Background: Postpartum thyroiditis (PPT) is a thyroid dysfunctionn syndrome which is temporary or permanent that occurs 1 year after giving birth or abortion. The occurrence of postpartum thyroiditis is 5 – 10% of postpartum women in the world. It is caused by an inflammation of the thyroid gland which leads to a destruction of the thyroid follicle and proteolysis of thyroglobulin. Case presentation: A woman, 31 years old, was admitted to the hospital complaining an enlargement on her neck. The patient said her the enlargement keeps getting larger and she also complained a feeling of something stuck in the throat. The patient also complained a hoarse voice. The patient has just given birth of her second child 5 months ago. From a hematologic examination, radiologic, and blood culture, the patient was diagnosed with Postpartum Thyroiditis. The patient was given Euthyrox therapy and will undergo repeated evaluation after 1 months of the therapy. Conclusion: We reported a case of Postpartum Thyroiditis that was treated comprehensively, and showed a good prognosis.

Abstract

ABSTRACTBackground: HIV/AIDS is one of the diseases that has been a global problem for a long time. In 2018, there were 37.9 million people worldwide infected with HIV and 1.7 million were children. Knowledge  of the prevention of HIV transmission from mother-to-baby is very important as one of the prevention options. The aim of research knowing the level of knowledge of students of the Faculty of Medicine, Universitas Sumatra Utara  in 2017 against HIV transmission from mother to child.Method: Research method conducted using online survey method with cross sectional design. The samples used are all students based on total sampling. The study used univariate analysis to see descriptive images with primary data sourced from online questionnaires. Result: The level of knowledge of students of the Faculty of Medicine, University of North Sumatra in 2017 in the category of both 128 people (63.7%), enough 67 people (33.3 %), and less 6 people (3%).Conclusion: Students of the Faculty of Medicine, University of North Sumatra in 2017 have good knowledge about HIV transmission from mother to child.

Abstract

Background: At the beginning of 2020, the world was shocked by a new type of coronavirus (SARS-CoV-2) whose disease was called Coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19). The research aims to determine the self-perception of Co-Assistant students regarding the COVID-19 pandemic. Method: The study was designed cross-sectional, which was conducted via sharing online links. Respondents must Co-Assistant students from a medical faculty in Indonesia and participated in the questionnaire filling between June 2020 and October 2020. This research is a descriptive study with a cross-sectional approach and conducted using primary data (online questionnaire Results: One hundred forty-nine students (149) of Co-Assistant students from several medical faculties all over Indonesia met the inclusive criteria. The samples were dominated by female respondents at 103 students (69.1%), while the male respondent accounted for only 46 students (30.9%). The first year of the Co-Assistant program with 94 respondents (63.1%) followed by the second year of the Co-Assistant program with 55 respondents (36.9%). The highest mean score in the fear zone came from the "first year of Co-Assistant program" group and the highest mean score in the learning and growth zone came from the "second year of Co-Assistant program" group. Conclusion: The highest mean score in the fear zone came from the "first year of Co-Assistant program" group and the highest mean score in the learning and growth zone came from the "second year of Co-Assistant program" group.

Abstract

Abstract Background: The polymorphisms make the differences in virulence and pathogenicity of H. pylori, which lead to different clinical manifestations after H. pylori infection. The aim research to assess correlation between between VEGF–2578 C>A Gene Polymorphism and life style in H. Pylori (+) Gastritis Patients. Method: The design of this study is a cross sectional study of H. Pylori (+) Gastritis patients, independent variables is gene polymorphism VEGF-2578C>A and dependent variables are life style (age, gender, BMI and alcohol). Infection of H. Pylori detected 14C-UBT or rapid urease test. Examination of gene polymorphism VEGF-2578C>A by performing DNA extraction (Spin Column Method) with reagent: High Pure PCR Template through PCR procedure. Results: From 59 pasien Gastritis H. Pylori (+), there is no correlation between VEGF-2578 C>A gene polymorphism (consisting of CC, CA and AA) with lifestyle (gender, age consists of < 45 years and > 45 years, BMI consists of < 25 kg/m2 and > 25 kg/m2, alcoholic drinkers ) Conclusion: There is no correlation between VEGF–2578 C>A Gene Polymorphism and life style (age, sex, BMI and alcohol drinking) in H. Pylori (+) Gastritis Patients.

Abstract

Background: The triglyceride and glucose index (TyG index) has become an attractive option due to the highly available and inexpensive biochemical markers for diagnostic of insulin reciatance (IR). The aim of this study was to investigate the association between TyG index and parameters of metabolic syndrome patients. Method: A cross-sectional was conducted in outpatient polyclinics of the Endocrine-Metabolic division of RSUP H Adam Malik Medan. Criteria of Metabolic Syndrome: (i) abdominal obesity: waist circumference of ≥80 cm in women and ≥90 cm in men in Asean, measured at the umbilical level in a standing position; (ii) systolic blood pressure (SBP) of ≥130 mmHg or diastolic blood pressure (DBP) of ≥85 mmHg (or treatment with an antihypertensive medication), measured in all subjects using a validated digital electronic tensiometer in both upper limbs in a seated position after 15 minutes of rest; (iii) triglycerides levels (TG) of ≥150 mg/dL (1.7 mmol/L) or statin/fibrate treatment; HDL-cholesterol levels (HDL-C) of >80 cm in women and >90 cm in men). Result: In this study there were 20 metabolic syndrome patients. From the data, all patients are obese and HbA1c is normal. There is a significant relationship between TyG and HDL-C and TG (r=-0.60; p=0.005** and r=0.88, p= 0.001**, respectively). Conclusion: There is a significant relationship between TyG and HDL-C and TG of metabolic syndrome patients. Keywords: TyG, Metabolic Syndrome Parameters
