Abstract

Pemahaman terhadap hari penciptaan di dalam Kejadian 1:1-2:3 telah menuai begitu banyak perdebatan dan argumentasi. Oleh karena itu, studi narasi penciptaan di dalam Kejadian 1:1-2:3 menjadi hal yang sangat penting untuk dapat melihat kembali kekonsistenan penafsiran harfiah terhadap narasi penciptaan di dalam Alkitab. Penafsiran harfiah yang dimaksud adalah penafsiran yang melihat bahwa penciptaan benar-benar terjadi dalam durasi waktu 6 hari normal dengan mengikuti urutan kronologis yang dinyatakan dalam narasi penciptaan mulai dari hari pertama hingga hari keenam, dimana pada hari ketujuh Tuhan memberkati dan menguduskannya, dan yang menjadikan hari ketujuh memiliki aspek harfiah dan tidak harfiah. Selain itu, dengan menyadari banyaknya tantangan dan kritik terhadap penafsiran harfiah, baik dari pendekatan penafsiran tidak harfiah maupun pendekatan ilmu pengetahuan modern, maka pembahasan akan tantangan dan kritik tersebut menjadi sangat penting agar pembahasan penafsiran harfiah menjadi kian limpah.

Abstract

James' teaching about faith has been downplayed for so many years. Since the concept of faith in the NT has been read mainly in light of Paul's theology, scholars ignores James? teaching on faith, which has different emphasis from Paul. Biblical scholars and theologians have tried to solve the tension between Paul's teaching about faith and James'. While historical approach applied to deal with this issue has lead NT scholarship to enless debate, this study proposes that the Letter of James was not sent to handle problems that occur because of Paul. This essay uses discourse analysis to understand how the the concept of faith in James 1 and 2 should be grasped. This work finds that James addresses his letter to pastoral believers? community and help them to understand sufferings in their lives. James emphasizes that faith is not only a confession but also a commitment to live in accordance with the true belief.

Abstract

Postmodernism philosophy has made a serious impact to some Christian thinkers on how they view the truth. During many decades ago, Christian theologians had formulated and defended the Christian theology as a system of propositional truths. However, in some recent decades the truth - as propositions which are expected to become timeless truths -has been declined by some thinkers like Leslie Newbigin and Stanley Grenz. One of the primary reasons to reject propositions in theological discourse, according to them, that it is a product of the enlightenment and therefore cannot be applied in the postmodern context. Yet, this view has a significant problem and therefore the aim of this article is to elaborate the problem and to maintain the significance of the propositional truths in Christian faith.

Abstract

God?s great work to reform His churches on earth many times preceded by great revival sent by Him. Apparently many revival like the one in the Great Awakening of New England colony in the eighteenth century produced two opposing responses: either fanaticism or denial. The Great Awakening became a battle to answer a key question: whether the Great Awakening was a genuine work of the Spirit? What is a true revival, then according to Reformed theology? The figure most fit to answer this question is none other than Jonathan Edwards. In the midst of the controversy, Jonathan Edwards stood in the middle ground trying to justify that the Great Awakening was truly a work of God while at the same time critical towards the excesses. Edwards Treatise of Religious Affections will be related to his discussion on the centrality of affections in religion, the nature of experience and the assurance of salvation.

Abstract

Ada suatu relasi antara perayaan Sabat dan kesucian hidup Kristen dalam pemikiran Calvin. Meskipun Calvin belum mengungkapkan relasi ini secara jelas, baik di dalam tafsiran, Institutes, katekismus, dan tulisan-tulisan Calvin lainnya, namun penulis mengamati bahwa relasi Sabat dan kesucian hidup menurut Calvin, secara tersirat telah dimulai sejak tafsiran kitab kejadian dalam Perjanjian Lama sampai tafsiran kitab Ibrani dalam Perjanjian Baru. Hal ini bukan hal yang mengherankan, karena tema kesucian memang sering dibicarakan Calvin dalam berbagai konteks pembahasan. Suatu kesucian yang bukan dari pemahaman yang self-centered, melainkan dari pengenalan dan penghormatan akan Allah, yang God- centered. Penulis membagi ke dalam dua tinjauan untuk membuktikan relasi dalam pemikiran Calvin ini. Pertama, relasi perayaan Sabat dengan kesucian hidup Kristen secara personal dan kedua secara berjemaat/ gereja.
