Abstract

This study aims to delineate the key socio-emotional needs important for voice behavior. To do this, we examine individual and contextual factors as mechanisms underlying how psychological ownership and perceived support influence employee voice behavior. Employing survey research of 210 employees from two big companies in Indonesia, analyses revealed that perceived supervisor support had direct and indirect effects on voice behavior, and job-based psychological ownership is a crucial mediator of the relationship between organization-based psychological ownership and perceived supervisor support on voice behavior. Path analysis offered further support for the complete model (χ2= 4.25, df = 3, P-value = 0.235, RMSEA = 0.045). The present study contributes to current understanding by demonstrating that psychological ownership (i.e., an individual characteristic) and perceived supervisor support (i.e., a contextual characteristic) dynamically affect voice behavior. We discuss implications for research on voice behavior by highlighting key drivers to support employees’ emotional needs that are essential for voice behavior.

Abstract

Musings of thirty-six college students from three higher educational institutions in the Manila, Philippines were used to look at the constructs of physical appeal and its power to influence leadership. By thematically analyzing the musings of the students, the research found physical appeal concepts that are associated to leadership. The study revealed that the students perceive leadership in two ways: from “within” the leader such as skills and knowledge, and from the “outside” where leadership is associated to goals, to influences, and to authority. In terms of physical appeal, leaders are expected to possess physical beauty (kagandahanganyo). Moreover, leaders are seen as individuals who have good manners (kagandahang asal). Interestingly, the college students claimed that leadership should also be based on capacity (kakayanan) and connection (koneksyon). These findings revealed that leadership has its physical and ethical forms that help the students visualize their idealized national political leader.

Abstract

This study aims to analyze the effects of social capital—namely structural, relational, and cognitive dimensions—on crowdfunding performance using Kitabisa.com as a case study for 2013-2015. Using robust ordinary least squares methods, we find two important results. Structural dimension, which is measured by Facebook friends owned by an entrepreneur, affects crowdfunding success. The cognitive dimension, which is measured by the number of words that are written by entrepreneurs in the platform, also affects crowdfunding opportunities in order to wage a successful campaign. Using logistic regression technique, this study finds the same result, namely that the structural dimension and cognitive dimension have a positive relationship to the performance of crowdfunding. From a logistic regression, we can conclude that the number of Facebook friends and the amount of words to describe the project significantly positively influence the chances of success of the project; the more the number of friends and the number of words on a project, the greater chance of a project to achieve success. This study concludes Facebook friends owned by entrepreneur and number of words affect positively crowdfunding opportunities toward a successful campaign.

Abstract

With a robust recent history of reform and opening, joining of the World Trade Organization, and negotiating a myriad of regional and global trade agreements, Vietnam has emerged as a promising destination for foreign direct investment (FDI) and cross-border mergers and acquisitions (M&A). In this paper, we provide an overview of Vietnam’s inbound mergers and acquisitions and review the two main driving forces of inbound M&A, which are the legal framework reform process and the equitization of State-owned enterprises. We close by providing directions for future research in the area of cross-border M&As.

Abstract

Business sustainability from the point of view of human resource management (HRM) is a management and leadership philosophy about how people are most enable to contribute to success at their work by minimizing the negative impact of their work on the environmental and social factors and at the same time improving the financial factors in the organizations. This study is an empirical study conducted on 233 Indian manufacturing firms operating in the Karnataka region to investigate the role for HRM in business sustainability. The role for HRM in business sustainability is studied with the construct HRM strategic integration in business sustainability strategy. Further, this study focuses on the way HRM incorporates sustainability in its practices in the organization and its impact on the organizational performance. The data are analyzed using SEM, and the results revealed the significance of the relationship of the HRM strategic integration of sustainability strategy with the organizational performance. The organizational performance studied with respect to the three factors of business sustainability viz., profit, people, and planet. Further, these relationships are tested with contingency factors, age of the firm, and the number of employees for its significance in this relation. The empirical evidence of the study shows a significant positive relation of organizational performance when HRM has strategic integration in business sustainability strategy. Model I4C is derived to show the role for HRM in business sustainability.
