Abstract

The “Our Father” prayer is one of the most recited prayers for all Christians. The Gospel of Matthew and Luke (Mat 6:9-13 and Luke 11:2-4) record this prayer as a prayer taught by Jesus himself to his disciples. This article aims at exploring the richness of this prayer by putting more light on its structure and meaning of some important expressions in the prayer. In general, there are six petitions in “Our Father” prayer, divided in two main sections. The first three petitions carry our thoughts toward Our Heavenly Father, for His own sake. The other three remind our necessities. By observing that, the article reveals that this prayer is very deep in meaning to help Christians grow in their devotional and spiritual life. Through its more devotional recitation, Christians would not only pray as a daily routine activity but also could actively grow in its awareness as disciple and in its confession of The Holy Trinity God.

Abstract

It is undeniable that the implementation of information technology in the digital era has permeated various fields and aspects of life, including its contribution to an individual's spiritual existence. Despite the myriad of positive and negative impacts it generates, technology fundamentally possesses a neutral nature. The Catholic Church, as an institution that shepherds the faith of billions of Catholics worldwide and serves as a moral compass for humanity, also addresses the repercussions brought about by the changes and advancements in technology within this digital age. This paper seeks to explore the essential aspects that need to be championed, the boundaries that must be acknowledged, and the potentials that can be developed to ensure that the application of information technology in the digital era maximizes the development of one's spiritual life.

Abstract

Prayer is an integral part of family life. It helps family to face many problems in society even as the vital cell of society, family needs more prayers. Christian Families, as “ecclesia domestica”, obtain their identity from the Church, the bride of Christ. They have duty to pray because prayer unites them to Christ, the centre of family. Moreover, Christian families as “ecclesia domestica” have the same mission as the Church. Christian families need prayer in their daily lives because, identical to the Church, they pray together as community to invoke the help of God for their families lives. Thus, based on this context, this paper wants to explain how prayers in Christian Families have a significant effect in assisting and protecting them from dangerous ideologies such as secularism that break families in modern society.

Abstract

This article wants to explore the historical and doctrinal basis for the practice of praying through the intercession of saints, which is commonly found in the Catholic Church. For that purpose, it will study the historical context of its origin and its doctrinal basis originating from the documents of councils. From the study of these sources, it is hoped that we can find the authentic spirit behind the practice of supplicating prayer through the intercession of saints. It is also hoped that, with a proper understanding of its history in the Church and the Church teaching on it, abuse can be avoided, and correct practice found support. For this reason, the discussion will be maintained by a study on the historical context of the practice and of the development of the doctrine found in the Magisterium of the councils. Yet the general theological framework of the Second Vatican Council will be presented first, so that the theological vision of the theme in the modern era could be placed as our basic understanding. But as it is also necessary to present the historical background of this practice, the discussion should also be supplied with this historical background. With this background, it is hoped that the idea of the teachings outlined by the councils, from the beginning up to the Second Vatican Council, can be better understood.

Abstract

Some outstanding missionaries from Methodist Church of the end of 19th century-early 20th century expressed that prayer and mission are closely intertwined. Their experiences in mission area showed that prayer is the most needed, though it does not mean that everything which sustain mission activities are unimportant. Two patrons of mission in the Catholic Church expressed similar opinion that prayer is the most important dimension in mission because prayer touches the heart of people more effectively. In his mission Jesus was intensely aware of the importance of prayer as he offered a prayer before choosing his disciples, at the beginning of his work, during his work, before his suffering and his death. Jesus had offered a prayer before his activities in mission because he was aware that he is the messenger of God. In other word Jesus was aware that his mission was God’s mission-Abba’s mission, and his identity was a messenger of God’s/Abba’s Kingdom. The awareness of Jesus identity and the close relationship with his father in prayer are the mode of our mission. Seeing the attitude of Jesus in doing mission one could conclude that prayer plays a pivotal role in mission and the goal of mission is to share the Kingdom of God the Father.
