Abstract

This article explores the interpretation of Quranic verses and Islamic teachings relevant to the modern concept of the sandwich generation, a demographic group simultaneously responsible for caring for aging parents and raising their own children. In the Indonesian context, where family ties and caregiving hold immense significance, understanding the intersection of Islamic principles with challenges faced by the sandwich generation is paramount. This article delves into the perspective of Indonesian scholars who analyze Quranic verses to provide insights into how Islamic teachings align with the responsibilities of the sandwich generation. Scholars’ interpretations highlight the importance of honoring parents, as commanded in the Quran, while nurturing children. They emphasize the concept of birr al-walidayn (kindness to parents), shedding light on the moral duty of children to care for aging parents, and fostering a balanced approach. Furthermore, the article discusses how Indonesian scholars emphasize the significance of self-care and seek support from the family and community. This aligns with Islamic values of moderation and collective responsibility. Scholars’ viewpoints underscore the rewards of patience and perseverance, assuring the sandwich generation that their efforts are acts of worship and have spiritual significance. Ultimately, this article provides a nuanced understanding of the sandwich generation phenomenon within the Indonesian Islamic context. It contributes to the broader discourse on family dynamics, caregiving, and the harmonization of modern challenges with timeless Islamic principles.

Abstract

The seminary formation of Catholic aspirants to the priesthood is a complex journey that involves careful discernment of personal aspiration and motivation. Specific formation programs were designed and formulated to abet them in their vocation discernment. This study examines different motives that keep Propaedeutic seminarians in their initial formation phase. It is a case study investigating the other areas of seminary structure and personal motivation that impelled them to pursue seminary formation. The primary data for this study was obtained from the Holy Infant Seminary of the Diocese of Pagadian, a diocese in Zamboanga del Sur in the western hemisphere of Mindanao, Philippines. Employing the case study technique, the researchers conducted direct interviews with fourteen propaedeutic seminarians to evaluate and examine their motivation. The study's findings show three significant themes which help them cope with the demands of priestly formation: seminary activities or programs, strategies to nurture vocation, and personal motivation factors.

Abstract

K. H. M. Hasyim Asy’ari was founder and first chairman of Nahdhatul Ulama, one of the largest Islamic mass organization in Indonesia and the world. He was also a prominent scholar, with many of his books becoming the main references for Islamic boarding schools or pesantrens in Indonesia. The primary objective of this study is to systematically document, illustrate, and comprehend the cognitive absorption process of educational concepts in the book Adab al-’Alim wa al-Muta’allim, one of K. H. M. Hasyim Asy’ari’s masterpiece. This research examines the incorporation of Islamic educational philosophy in the book among santri, students of Islamic boarding school, of Pesantren Tebuireng Jombang, Indonesia. This study adopted a descriptive qualitative methodology including observational research techniques. The data collection processes involved the utilization of interviews, observations, and documentation, utilizing a snowball sampling technique. This study utilizes interactive analytical procedures consisting of three essential stages: data reduction, data presentation (also known as data display), and the formulation and validation of findings. The findings of the study indicate that a significant proportion of participants had a strong understanding of the content of the book and made concerted efforts to incorporate its teaching into their lives. Consensus was reached among all participants regarding the pedagogical significance of the book and its constructive impact on santri.

Abstract

Muslim students who attend Catholic institutions engage with Catholic religious education classes by bringing a variety of narratives to the fore. The aim of this study employs how these students contribute diverse narratives to the classroom, which intertwine with a range of challenges and struggles. Through an in-depth examination of the experiences of ten (10) participants enrolled in Catholic institutions, the researchers employ qualitative research techniques, including interviews and verbatim transcriptions. They identify significant patterns, behaviors, and distinguishing characteristics essential to the case's setting through a careful categorizing procedure. Positive experiences, such as a sense of happiness and inclusion, fostering interfaith connections, and promoting a broader comprehension of Catholic religious beliefs and practices, emerge from the findings. Conversely, negative encounters, including unmet accommodation needs, challenges in understanding unfamiliar doctrines, academic struggles, and limited class participation, prompt the development of coping strategies. The findings of this study offer valuable insights for educators, school administrators, and policymakers within Catholic institutions. By recognizing and addressing the challenges encountered by Muslim students, these results foster the establishment of learning environments that are inclusive and provide meaningful support. Moreover, the study underscores the importance of interfaith dialogue within educational settings, contributing to a more harmonious and enriching experience for all students involved.

Abstract

The focal point of this research is the hybrid investor behavior and maqaá¹£id of sharia. Understanding maqaá¹£id of sharia is the right solution to negative public perceptions of investment in the Islamic capital market. Hybrid investor behavior comprises two variables: perceived risk and behavioral hybrid, which lead to different results. This study aims to find new theories about the behavior of hybrid investors towards stock options with maqaá¹£id of sharia as a moderating variable to strengthen scientific thinking to conceptually and contextually identify, evaluate, and execute the existing problems in choosing sharia stocks. This was an explanatory research study with a nonexperimental research design. This study used a quantitative method, and data were collected through questionnaires distributed to hybrid investors in Surakarta areas: Surakarta, Boyolali, Klaten, Sukoharjo, Wonogiri, Karanganyar, and Sragen. It involved 130 investors as research participants. The data were analyzed using Structural Equation Modeling to obtain a model that explains the relationship between the variables on Sharia stock options. This research revealed that the perception of risk has a negative and significant effect on the choice of Islamic stocks. Hybrid behavior has a positive and significant effect on the choice of Islamic stocks. Maqaá¹£id sharia moderates the effect of risk perception on sharia stock options and does not moderate the effect of hybrid behavior on the choice of sharia stocks.
