Abstract

Recently, there are so many violence and harsh actions in the name of ‘holding for religious truth’ against the groups that are perceived as deviant and or astray in Indonesia. Ironically, those violence actions were performed by religious groups and organizations. It became more ironic when Religious Council of Indonesia (MUI) that often acts as the God’s executor, does not proclaimed those visible violence as deviant, even MUI seems tend to hush it. These events apparently influenced by a truth-claimed over the interpretation of religion by particular religious group. Eventually, they who claim the truth, always use religion to justify the violence ways against the other groups that are perceived as deviant. This article strongly aims at releasing religion from that kind of claim. Islamic religion should be claim-free from any particular group or organization, because Islam was born for all human being in the universe.

Abstract

Abstract

The emergence of religious sects has caused fidgetiness among society, whether in a religious community itself or in social interaction in general. Historically, the emergence of religious sects takes place across times and centuries. It emerged by the time the religion was born. In Islam history for example, it has been widely known the genesis of sect khawarij and syiah in the phase of shahabah (companion of Prophet Muhammad) . Recently, in Indonesia especially, have emerged some sects considered as deviate, such as Jamaah Ahmadiyah, Al-Qiyâdah Al-Islâmiyyah, Quran Suci, etc. This has caused strained situation among society. In many of regions, people massively protested the existence of the sects. Often, it followed by damaging the properties of the sects, such as houses and masjid. This article described definition and characteristics of religious sects, whether it is good or deviate. This article also elucidated the causal factors of the emergence of those sects and also its impacts toward society’s life. The study showed that: the right sects are those who persistently hold the norms and values of Al-Qur’an, Sunnah, and follow the behavior of shahabah. While the causal factors of the religious sects emergence are: economic factor, political factor, and the divergence of way of thinking. The impact of the emergence of those various religious sects are: aqidah divergence, political movement divergences, and adhering strictly to the sect and ignoring strictly to the others. This is for example: Mu’tazilah differs fundamentally from Ahlussunnah wal jamaah, Khawarij differs from Syiah, Qadariyah differs from Jabariyah. Each sect claimed that their opinion is the most truthful and the other is wrong/ astray.

Abstract

At the end of 2007 and at the beginning of 2008, the issue of Ahmadiyah again becomes an important issue in Indonesia. Similar issue has been appeared in 1980 and produced a fatwa on it by Religious Council of Indonesia (MUI). This short paper describes basic reason of why Muslim majority in Indonesia oppose the existence of Ahmadiyah. To analyze the problem, the author utilizes the theory of levelling of the Islamic Teaching. Nasr Hamid Abu Zaid, for example, levels Islamic teaching into three levels; the original text of Islam, interpretation, and practiced by Muslims. Similar theory was formulated by Abdullah Saeed. The result is that the basic reason of the opposing of Indonesian Muslim to the existence of Ahmadiyah is its belief of the status of Mirza Ghulam Ahmad as a prophet. Since, according to the belief of Muslim majority, Muhammad SAW is the last prophet. Therefore, the best way to solve the problem is a declaration or a recognition that Ahmadiyah is out of Islam. This solution in fact has been offered by the Ministry of Religious Affairs of Indonesia.

Abstract

This article tries to analyze separatist groups of Islam in Indonesia. Islamization in Indonesia have been built in the frame of universal values that has close meaning to democration, i.e. hifdz-din, hifdz-nafs, hifdz-nasl, hifdz-mal, and hifdz-aql. Political change took place in 1998 had triggered the emergence of splinters of Islamic religion, they were Salamullah, Isa Bugis, Baha’i, Madi in Palu, Qur’an Suci, and al-Qiyâdah al-Islâmiyah. They used atmosphere of pluralism and inclusivism to form their splinters’ community of religion. In this case, according to historical perspective, Ahmadiyah is different from ather groups. Ahmadiyah has existed before the independence proclamation of Indonesia. They did not accept Muhammad as the last prophet. But, here, there are actually some places to a conversion and reconciliation.

Abstract

The rising of the religious sects that are claimed as deviant and kafir has been a controversial issue today. This paper dedicates to review the phenomenon, both from the basic of Muslim’s faith and from the historical context. Based on those perspectives, this article will analyzes the phenomenon of the religious sects vis a vis mainstream groups of Islam. This phenomenon can be resumed into two perspectives; first, the sects which are claimed as deviant can be categorized as madzhab in Islam. Secon, that sects can also be indicated as new religion. From the mainstream Muslim group side, the sects was delayed both as madzhab of Islam and also new religion, because they believe that there is no true religion but Islam. Therefore, all these sects will be refused and should be destroyed. Here, the Muslims are not able to make the norms of living together and harmony. In fact, Islam indeed teachs freedom of speech, thought, and faith. Every one can choose anything without any pressure. To over come their daily problems, they have to have sense of humanity and non-violence attitudes.
