Abstract

This study was aimed at finding out the effect of concept circle strategy on the students' vocabulary achievement in reading descriptive text. It was conducted by using experimental research design. The population of this study was the students of SMP Panca Budi Medan, Academic Year 2015/2016. This study was conducted with two randomized groups namely experimental group and control group. The experimental group was taught by using Concept Circle Strategy while the control group was taught by using Frayer Model Strategy. The data was analyzed by using t-test formula. The analysis showed that the mean scores of the students in the experimental group was significantly higher than the mean scores of the students in the control group at the level of significant α= 0.05 with the degree of freedom (df) 50 with t-observed value 3.13> t-table value 2.009. Therefore, null hypothesis (Ho) was rejected and alternative hypothesis (Ha) was accepted. The findings indicated that using Concept Circle Strategysignificantly affected the students’ vocabulary achievement in reading descriptive text.

Abstract

This study is aimed at finding out the effect of Collaborative Strategic Reading (CSR) on students’ achievement in reading comprehension on hortatory exposition text. Experimental design was applied in this research. The population was the 2014/2015 second year students (grade XI) of SMA Swasta YAPIM Medan. There were two paralel classes that consisted of 34 students. The total number of the population were 68 students. The total number of the sample were 68 students. The researcher selected the sample by using total sampling technique. The sample was divided into two groups, experimental group and control group. The experimental group was taught by using Collaborative Strategic Reading (CSR) strategy while the control group was taught without using Collaborative Strategic Reading (CSR) strategy. The data were taken by administering the pre-test and post-test to both control and experimental groups. These data were analyzed by using t-test. The result of computing the t-test obviously showed that t-observed (5.61) is higher than t-table (1.99) with the degree of freedom (df= 66) at the level significance 0.05. It means that the alternative hypothesis stating that there is a significant effect of Collaborative Strategic Reading (CSR) on students’ achievement in reading comprehension on hortatory exposition text is accepted. Abstract

This study attempts to discover the effect of applying Personal Experiences Strategy on students’ achievement in writing narrative text. It was conducted by using experimental research design. The population of this research was the tenth (X) grade students of SMA N 6 Padangsidimpuan  which consists of 10 parallel classes with the total number of students is 64. The samples of this research were taken by random sampling through lottery technique. The result was class X1 consisted of 32 students became the experimental group and class X2 consisted of 32 students became the control group. The experimental group was taught by Personal Experiences Strategy while the control group was taught by using Big group work strategy. The instrument was used to collect the data was writing narrative text. After the data were analyzed, it was found that the value of t-observed was 4.25 with the degree of freedom (df) = 62 at the level significance 0.05. it means that t-observed was higher than t-table (4.25 > 1.997. The result of this study showed that teaching narrative text by using personal experiences strategy was higher than that by big group work. Keywords : Using Personal Experiences Strategy. Abstract

This study is aimed at finding out the effect of Engage, Study, Activate technique on students’ achievement in writing narrative text. This research applied experimental design. The instrument used to collect the data was a written test. The population was the 2015/2016 second year students (grade VIII) of SMP N 1 Sei Rampah. There were nine paralel classes that consisted of 30 students. The total number of the population were 270 students. The total number of the sample were 60 students. The researcher selected the sample by choosing only 2 classes  by using sampling technique. The sample was divided into two groups, experimental group and control group. The experimental group was taught by applying Engage, Study, Activate technique while the control group was taught without applying Engage, Study, Activate technique. The data were taken by administering the pre-test and post-test to both control and experimental groups. These data were analyzed by using t-test. The result of computing the t-test obviously showed that t-observed (4.383) is higher than t-table (1.671) with the degree of freedom (df= 58) at the level significance 0.05 one tail test. It means that alternative hypothesis stating that there is a significant effect of Engage, Study, Activate technique on students’ achievement in writing narrative text is accepted. Abstract

This study deals with the effect of Guiding Questions Technique on Students’ Achievement in Writing Descriptive Text. The objective of the study is to find out whether the students’ achievement in writing descriptive text taught by guiding questions technique is higher than that taught by using word webbing technique.. This study was conducted by using experimental design. The population of the study was the students of grade VIII of SMPN 35 Medan in the academic year 2015/2016, where there were 6 classes of VIII and there were two classes were selected as the sample by applying random sampling. The sample was divided into two groups. The Experimental group (VIII 1) was taught by applying Guiding Questions Technique, while the control group (VIII  2) was taught by applying Word Webbing Technique. The data of the study were obtained from the students’ score of writing test. To determine the reliability of the test, the writer used Pearson Product Moment formula. Based on the calculation, the coefficient of reliability of the test was 0.85. It showed that the test was reliable and the reliability was very high. There were two data used in this study. They were pre-test and post-test. After analyzing the data, the result of the study showed that t-observed (3.698) was higher than t-table (2.712) (t-observed ˃ t-table) at the level of significance of α = 0.05 and at the degree of freedom (df) = 38. The result of this study showed that students’ achievement taught by using Guiding Questions Technique is higher than that taught by using Word Webbing Technique or in other words the hypothesis is accepted. This study attempts to discover the effect of applying Small Group Work Strategy on students’ achievement in writing procedure text. It was conducted by using experimental research design. The population of this research was the nineth (IX) grade students of SMP N 1 Padang Bolak Julu which consists of 3 parallel classes with the total number of students is 90. The samples of this research were taken by random sampling through lottery technique. The result was class IX1 consisted of 30 students became the experimental group and class IX3 consisted of 30 students became the control group. The experimental group was taught by Small Group Work Strategy while the control group was taught by using individual work strategy. The instrument was used to collect the data was writing procedure text. After the data were analyzed, it was found that the value of t-observed was 3.37 with the degree of freedom (df) = 58 at the level significance 0.05. it means that t-observed was higher than t-table (3.37 > 2.00. Therefore, the null hypothesis (Ho) is reected and the hypothesis alternative (Ha) is accepted.Key words : Small Group Work Strategy, Writing Procedure Text.

Abstract

This study was conducted as an attempt to find out the effect of applying Multisensory Teaching Method on the students’ vocabulary achievement in reading. This research used the experimental design. The population of this research was the students of SMP Nusa Penida Medan. The Sample of this research was the 2014/2015 seventh grade students of SMP Nusa Penida Medan with the total number 60 of students as sample taken by using random sampling technique. The research was divided into two groups: experimental and control groups. The instrument used to collect the data was multiple choice tests of pre-test and post-test. To obtain the result of the reliability of the test, the Kuder Richardson formula (KR21) was used. The result of the calculation showed that the reliability of the test was high. The data were analyzed by using t-test formula. The result of the analysis showed that tvalue was higher than ttable (5, 87>2, 00) at the level of significance 0, 05 with the degree of freedom (df) 58. Therefore, null hypothesis (H0) is rejected and hypothesis alternative (Ha) is accepted. It means that there is a significant effect of using Multisensory Teaching Method on the students’ achievement in vocabulary in reading.
