Abstract

Teaching and learning activities have been associated with the use of Information and Communication Technology (ICT). In the context of English language learning, ICT is a resource and tool for supporting students in their learning process. With the use of different English learning activities, ICT offers students a range of sources to obtain authentic content and improve their language abilities. This research aims to analyze the students’ perspectives on the use of ICT-based learning in their learning activities. This study used quantitative descriptive study. The sample of this research was 31 students of the 8th semester students’ English department University of Mataram academic year 2021/2022. The data were collected by using an online questionnaire, an interview, and documentation. The process analyzation was using SPSS, then Spearman's Rho test applied to determine how closely the two variables are related. The result indicated that the students have a positive perspective on the use of ICT-based learning contributed to their learning process. Overall data of mean score 3.95 (SD 0.563) on the students’ perspectives on implementing ICT-based learning show a positive impact. The findings are also revealed that there is a significant correlation between the two variables and a positive correlation coefficient (0.665). Thus, it can be concluded that the better ICT quality improves, the better the quality of students' English learning it would be.

Abstract

This research aims to describe and analyze the lexical and grammatical cohesion types and identify the most common lexical and grammatical cohesion in Justin Bieber's song lyrics "Nothing Like Us". The method used is the descriptive qualitative method. The subject of this research is the words found in the song lyrics "Nothing Like Us". This research showed three lexical cohesion categories, namely repetition, synonymy, and meronymy, and three grammatical cohesion categories, particularly personal reference, demonstrative reference, and conjunction. According to the findings, the song "Nothing Like Us" lyrics contain nine different lexical cohesion types, including seven repetitions, one synonym, and one meronymy. Based on the summary of the result, repetition becomes the data's most common or dominant occurrence. Meanwhile, grammatical cohesion consists of three personal reference, one demonstrative reference, and five conjunctions. As a result, conjunctions appear to be the most frequent in the data. The goal of lexical and grammatical cohesion is to provide harmony to songs to make them more meaningful. The most common effects on listeners were repetitions deepening the song's meaning and allowing listeners to enlist their thoughts more deeply in the song.

Abstract

The purpose of writing is to convey to readers whether a book or work deserves a response from the public or not. Besides that, it is also to give considerations to other works of art such as plays, films, and a performance. Because the considerations conveyed by reviewers must be adjusted to the tastes of readers, a review published in a magazine may not be the same. The method we use in reviewing a book entitled "This Is Me" is the reporting method. The reviewers intentionally describe the contents of the book, and expresses the opinion through details that the reviewers select and omit. The reviewers would present the result of the review. This book has the benefit of encouraging readers of any age, whether young or old, to love themselves without having to worry about what other people think. Become a more confident person, and the story teaches the readers that even if someone falls and gets hurt, they have to do their best until it is time to heal. Such mental strength grows when one has the drive to make it even better. This book seems easy to understand because the language used by the author is light and contains many motivational sentences. This book really helps teenagers to believe more in their potential without worrying about other people's comments that harm them. This book manages to package the problem as well as the solution. There are case studies and motivational sentences that can encourage readers. The conclusion is if one feels that one cannot love him or herself, he or she does not know themselves deeply, and they still ignore other people's negative words. This book will guide the readers to solve the personal problems everyone is experiencing. By reading the book, it will make the readers or individuals can do various things without thinking about negative comments from other people.

Abstract

Movies always have an impact on society based on the message they convey. The film's message has the   potential to influence the audience's thinking and behaviour. This review examines the socioeconomic disparity depicted in the film Miracle in Cell No. 7 in order to highlight the message conveyed. The purpose of this review is to discover the conflicts shown in the film, as well as the messages included and packed by the filmmaker. The Robert N. Etman Media Text Framing Analysis model was used to analyze this study, which includes four research analysis tools: problem identification (defining the problem), causal interpretation (estimating the problem or source of the problem), moral evaluation (making a moral decision on the problem), and treatment recommendations (emphasizing problem solving) with a critical perspective within the Frankfurt School's critical  theory paradigm. The findings of this study reveal that the components that depict conflict in this film are drawn from societal occurrences. Reviewers can use the    framing model to uncover messages in the film, such as praiseworthy messages or good attitudes.

Abstract

This research is a quantitative descriptive study that aims to obtain data about the ability to use synonyms and antonyms in Chinese sentences for class XI MAS An-Nuriyah Bontocini Jeneponto students. The population in this study was class XI of the school which consisted of 3 classes totaling 52 students. The sampling technique was carried out using a random sample, so the sample in this study was students of class XI MIA 1, a total of 16 students. The research data were obtained from synonym and antonym tests. The data were analyzed using the percentage technique with a result of 60.63% for the synonym test and the antonym test with a result of 65.63%. The results showed that the level of ability to use synonyms and antonyms in Mandarin sentences students had not yet reached the KKM because the synonym and antonym test obtained a score of 63.13%  which was included in the quite enaugh. The factors that caused the level of students' ability to not reach the KKM were the lack of interest in students learning Mandarin and students finding it difficult to learn Mandarin.
