Abstract

This study aims to compare gait parameters between the normal arch condition and the flat arch condition in students at SD Negeri Daleman 01, Nguter District, Sukoharjo. A flat foot, which is a common disorder characterized by the loss of arches in the feet, can interfere with walking pattern, cadence, timing, and speed. This study used a comparative approach with a cross-sectional observational analytic research design. The research sample consisted of students aged 7-12 years, with either a normal arch or flat arch condition. Gait parameters were measured using an instrument for assessing gait parameters. Data analysis involved tests for normality and hypothesis testing using the Mann-Whitney test. The results of the study showed a significant difference (p-value < 0.05) in gait parameters between the normal arch condition and the flat arch condition. Students with a normal arch condition demonstrated better gait parameters compared to those with a flat arch condition. Students with a flat arch condition tended to have shorter step lengths, wider step widths, longer ground contact time, and slower walking speeds compared to students with a normal arch condition. Based on the results of this study, it can be concluded that a flat arch condition potentially affects gait parameters in students at SD Negeri Daleman 01, with a p-value < 0.05. This information can be useful for relevant parties in monitoring and addressing gait parameter issues in students with a flat arch condition.

Abstract

Background: In everyday life, human beings cannot be separated from lifting activities, which can lead to fatigue. Lumbar corset can keep the body in an upright position thereby reducing fatigue.Research objectives: To find out an effect of using elastic lumbar corset on fatigue levels in lifting employee at PT Budi Texindo, Jawilan District, Serang Regency, Banten. Method: This study is quasi-experimental quantitative research using SSRT measuring instruments with a total of 20 respodents with a pre-posttest method, the normality test is using Shapiro-wilk and a hypothesis test using a paired T test. Research results: This research shows the average fatigue in the pretest group (59.50) while the average fatigue in the post test group (54.10), with a difference (5.40). Test results statistics with Paired t-test showed a p value of 0.000 it means <0.05 so there is a significant effect of using elastic lumbar corset on fatigue level.Conclusion: There is an effect of using Elastic Lumbar Corset on the fatigue level of lifting employees.

Abstract

Background: Knee osteoarthritis, which most commonly affects the medial compartment of the knee, is a chronic joint disorder that imposes a major healthcare burden. As no cure exists, traditional management aims to reduce pain, improve function, and enhance the quality of life while minimizing the adverse effects of therapy. Non-drug conservative interventions are considered the first-line approach to osteoarthritis management. Patients with medial compartment osteoarthritis of the knee typically exhibit genu varum on weight-bearing. This misalignment shifts the mechanical axis medially at the level of the knee joint, increasing the stresses on the medial compartment of the knee and potentially exacerbating knee osteoarthritis. Methods: The study design was a cross-sectional survey to determine the effectiveness of the lateral heel wedge in patients suffering from knee osteoarthritis. This study was conducted at the Pakistan Institute of Prosthetic and Orthotic Sciences in Peshawar. Results: This study concluded that there is a considerable effectiveness of the lateral heel wedge in patients with OA knee. There is some evidence to suggest that they do have some symptomatic effect, and it also shows that the ratio of females to males is high. Additionally, the rate of Knee OA is greater in older age.

Abstract

According to WHO and ISPO guidelines, three categories of personnel are involved in prosthesis and orthosis fabrication: prosthetists/orthotists; associate prosthetists and orthotists and prosthetics and orthotics technicians. It is important that they are competent and adequately trained. This is due to their responsibility in providing exemplary prosthetic and orthotics services to help users achieve mobility and elevate quality of life. To obtain information about the tasks performed on a job and the knowledge, skills, or abilities to perform those tasks, a practice analysis study is conducted. In this study, P&O companies in Klang Valley were invited to complete a survey to obtain information on professional background, domains, tasks, knowledge, skills etc. The survey questionnaires are adopted from the American Board for Certification in Orthotics, Prosthetics & Pedorthics, Inc. A total of 14 companies with 51 correspondents returned the survey. At the moment, the male practitioners dominate in P&O services (62%), most of the practitioners are between 25-34 years old, and mostly have <10 years of experience. In terms of patient distributions, adults are the highest (60%) followed by geriatric (20%) and pediatric (20%). The top three practice areas in orthotics are lower extremity (50%), spinal (21%) and upper extremity (15%), while for prosthetics are transtibial (30%), transfemoral (16%) and partial foot (11%). The top primary work performed are prosthetic and orthotic fabrication; clinical prosthetic and orthotic patient care; and education. Practitioners spent most of their time in these top three domains: patient assessment, formulation of the treatment plan and implementation of the treatment plan. These elementary findings of this study are useful for higher education and training providers in planning proper clinical and technical programmes for future and existing practitioners, also as support evidence for the policy maker in ensuring high quality provision of P&O services.

Abstract

Background: Spondylolisthesis is a spinal condition in which one vertebra slips forward or backwards with the next vertebra. Disturbances caused by this condition include the lumbar region, muscle spasm, decreased muscle strength, limitation of motion, and radiating pain in the legs. Most people refrain from back pain treatment and prefer a more traditional approach. Although many studies have proven that wearing brace for LBP were successful, lack of study mentioned about negative effects on short-term wearing. Therefore, this study aimed to determine the effect of using semirigid Lumbo Sacral Orthosis on the strength of the Trunk muscles in the case of Low Back Pain (LBP) e.c Spondylolisthesis. Aims: to determine the effect of using semirigid Lumbo Sacral Orthosis on the strength of the Trunk muscles in the case of Low Back Pain (LBP) e.c Spondylolisthesis. Methods: This research was quasi-experimental research using a pretest and posttest design approach. It was conducted at the Yogyakarta General Hospital, UGM Academic Hospital, Dr. Soeradji Tirtonegoro Klaten hospital and Tugurejo Semarang Hospital. The number of participants was 35 patients with purposive sampling. Results: There was an effect of using LSO Type Semirigid on trunk flexion muscles before and after treatments (Z = -5.099 with p value = 0.000), trunk rotational muscle strength before and after treatment (Z = -4.600 with p value = 0.000), trunk extension strength before and after treatment (Z = -4.472 with p value = 0.000). Conclusion: There was an effect of semirigid Lumbo Sacral Orthosis on the strength of the trunk muscles in the case of Low Back Pain (LBP), e.c Spondylolisthesis. As a result, the most significant effect that experienced a decrease in trunk muscle strength after the patient used semirigid LSO was in the flexion muscle group (0.75), then extension muscle (0.58) and rotation muscle (0.65).

Abstract

Background: Flatfoot conditions cause children to experience balance problems due to musculoskeletal disorders of the foot. Cases of flatfoot are prevalent in many children and can interfere with their growth and development, potentially reducing their quality of life in the future. Therefore, efforts are needed to improve children's balance. This study aims to determine whether the usage of insoles has an effect on the balance of children with flatfoot conditions at Banyuanyar 3 Elementary School. Methods and Subjects: By implementing gross motor training for children and utilizing arch support insoles, the study seeks to enhance children's balance ability. The research design is a quantitative experimental design with Randomized Controlled Trials (RCT), employing Single Blinding, and data collection through Pre-test and Post-test. The purposive sampling technique was used, with an intervention period of 30 days. The subjects included students from SD Negeri Banyuanyar 3, with a selected sample of 30 children from a population of 119 with flatfoot conditions. Standard interventions, such as rhythmic gymnastics, function as efforts to improve children's balance abilities and are applied to both the control and intervention groups, each comprising 15 children. The Pediatric Balance Scale (PBS) was used in this study to measure the level of functional balance in children. Results: The Wilcoxon test results for the treatment group indicated a P-value of 0.002 (<0.05), signifying a difference in balance ability between the pre-test and post-test in the treatment group. This indicates an improvement in balance among children using EVA insoles. Conversely, the control group's test results showed a P-value of 0.067 (P>0.05), suggesting no difference in balance ability between the pre-test and post-test in the control group. Therefore, based on this study, it can be concluded that the use of EVA insoles with arch support was found to improve the balance of children with flatfoot conditions.

Abstract

Background: For transtibial amputees, the use of a transtibial prosthesis has an impact on balance during daily activities (Wang et al., 2015). Apart from the prosthesis which affect walking patterns and balance, the use of the shoes related to the patient's balance. Modifications to the shoes of transtibial prosthesis users to achieve the best balance with toe-only rocker sole are considered an option to improve balance (Preece et al., 2017). Objective: To determine the effect of a 10-degree toe-only rocker sole on dynamic balance in transtibial prosthesis users. Methods and Subjects: This research was conducted from May to June in APOC Boyolali, using a quantitative research method using a quasi-experimental one group pre-test and post-test design. The sampling technique used is purposive sampling. The subjects used were transtibial prosthesis users. Results: A Statistical analysis with a p value of 0.000 less than 0.05 revealed that the use of a toe only rocker sole of 10 degrees had an impact on dynamic balance in transtibial prosthesis users. Conclusion: There is an effect of using a 10-degree toe only rocker sole to improve the dynamic balance of transtibial prosthesis users, so that reducing the risk of falls when carrying out daily activities.
