Multidisciplinary journal on Islamic Studies, Civilization and Learning Societies. This journal is a 2nd generation publication published by IDRIS Darulfunun Institute (published before under the same name in the 1920s). The ultimate objective of this journal is to disseminate knowledge in Islamic studies, civilization (history and literature) and learning societies (education and science). This journal also aims to strengthen the theoretical base for supporting policy and initiatives. Articles accepted need to be based on rigorous sound theory and contain an essential novel scientific contribution. (Bahasa or English)

Abstract

Hatred, extremism, terrorism and islamophobia become challenges for religion nowadays. The weight of this issue burdens the understanding of society about religion. Either to be a secular atheist or alienated religious extremist are not an appropriate solution. Alternatively, an approach needed to define religion as the source of ethical knowledge and facilitated the construction of new tolerance that not exclude the religion from people’s affair. This paper discusses the true religion and how they construct ethical knowledge used for the development of civilization.

Abstract

Pengembangan konsep moderasi Islam (wasathiyyah) menjadi tulang punggung dalam membentuk Islam yang berkemajuan di Indonesia. Pengembangan pendidikan di kalangan Muhammadiyah menjadi salah satu kontribusi besar pengembangan gagasan ke-Indonesia-an dan pendidikan di Indonesia. Kurikulum pendidikan yang dikembangkan Muhammadiyah adalah respon dari perubahan sosial budaya, tantangan-tatangan yang dihadapi pendidikan di Muhammadiyah, dan pendidikan di Indonesia secara umumnya. Kurikulum-kurikulum yang dikembangkan terus dievaluasi dan diperbaiki untuk dapat memberikan hasil manusia moderat (wasathiyyah) dan berkemajuan (islah wa maslahah). Pada akhirnya upaya dari pengembangan pendidikan adalah mengharapkan siswa didik yang seimbang imtak dan iptek, dan pada akhirnya dapat menjadi solusi rahmatan lil alamin. Tulisan ini adalah ulasan dari pengalaman keterlibatan penulis dalam pengembangan pendidikan di Muhammadiyah.

Abstract

The development of schools, universities and other social communities followed the dynamic progress of Islam. This development has provided patterns and variations of religious perspectives. Tarjih, as a process of understanding religious texts that have strong references to the Al-Quran and as-Sunnah is also understood by Muhammadiyah as a process of renewal (tajdid) or improvement (islah). Developments in culture and language that have changed over time have made some religious perspectives challenging to understand. The progress of time and technology has provided a new dimension to the misinterpretation of religious views regarding halal and haram in the name of modernization. Diversity and misinterpretation are also very much related to our understanding of bid'ah and khilafiyah. Khilafiyah is a diversity of perspectives that is not bid'ah. Tarjih and tajdid are dynamic and will always reject bid'ah and superstition because they are not based on the al-Quran and as-Sunnah. This article intends to discuss this matter.

Abstract

Muhammadiyah memiliki kerangka keagamaan untuk mensucikan akidah dengan kembali kepada Al-Quran dan as-Sunnah. Muhammadiyah menyadari perlunya melengkapi manhaj (metodologi) pemikiran Islam di Muhammadiyah, di sisi lain, hal ini dipandang sebagai kebutuhan seiring dengan intensitas dan ruang lingkup berbagai perkembangan kehidupan. Pemikiran Islam mencakup segala sesuatu yang berkaitan dengan kebutuhan praktis kehidupan beragama, pembahasan moralitas publik, serta reaksi dan antisipasi wacana Islam terhadap perkembangan kehidupan manusia. Bagaimana Studi Islam dapat dipraktikkan dalam kehidupan sehari-hari. Karena praktiknya terkait dengan konteks ruang, waktu dan tempat. Oleh karena itu, diperlukan kearifan lokal, pemahaman yang utuh tentang kaidah makna dari fikih agar praktik keagamaan selalu diperbarui tanpa harus meninggalkan apapun yang ada di dalam Al-Qur’an maupun as-Sunnah. . Di sinilah letak pentingnya memahami secara utuh maqasid al-syariah bagi pengembangan pemikiran Islam Muhammadiyah.
