Sinolingua: Journal of Chinese Studies is a scientific periodical published by the Department of Chinese Language and Culture, at Universitas Sebelas Maret which focuses on the development of Chinese studies. The scope of the publication is in the latest studies and research in the fields of language, literature, culture, philology and history. Journal articles are the result of studies and research originating from literature studies, field research, and best practice of literation of the Chinese language and culture. Each article contains the latest information by prioritizing the values of novelty, originality and usefulness. The purpose of publishing is to actively improve the quality and accessibility of scientific knowledge in the fields of Chinese studies. The article will be reviewed by internal and external editors, with at least two reviewers who have related expertise with double-blind peer review. Along with the development of technological systems in the field of literacy, on March 22 2023, the Sinolingua Journal used the Online Journal System (OJS) with E-ISSN numbers: 2986-1969 and P-ISSN: 2986-9773. Sinolingua journal is published twice a year, in March and September. Every article published by Sinolingua Journal has gone through a strict review and editorial process and respects the provisions of copyright law, privacy and scientific publication ethics. The informational content of this journal is open access under a Creative Commons Attribution-NonCommercial 4.0 International License (CC BY-NC 4.0).

Abstract

The purpose of this study is to explain historically the acculturation process of Javanese-Chinese culture which its existence is still being felt today. The research question is how was the process of acculturation of Javanese and Chinese culture and what form. The method used in this study is the historical method which has four operational steps: Heuristics, criticism, interpretation,  and historiography. A search for library research is needed to find out initial information on the problems being studied. Anthropological and sociological approaches are needed to sharpen data analysis. The results of this study explain that the acculturation of Javanese and Chinese culture was formed through a long historical process since the 5th century AD. The initial interaction of ethnic Chinese with Javanese people took place intensively through trade relations. The arrival of ethnic Chinese to Java took place gradually by sea. The interaction of ethnic Chinese culture with the local community runs naturally and without any cultural conflict between the two. This long-standing cultural interaction has resulted in the acculturation of Javanese and Chinese cultures merging into one local culture of the Javanese people. Almost all elements of Javanese life are more or less influenced by Chinese culture. As in architecture, food, literature, batik, sports, musical instruments, religion, performing arts and traditions. The conclusion of this study shows that the process of acculturation of Javanese and Chinese cultures has given birth to a mixed culture that has become part of the cultural wealth of Javanese society.

Abstract

Chinatown is an area inhabited by Chinese. The old Chinatown is characterized by rows of shophouse facing each other with curved tiled roof with Chinese ornaments. This typical Chinatown building are disappearing as a city develop, replaced by modern buildings. The old typical Chinatown in Surakarta is concentrated in Kampung Sudiroprajan. The purpose of this study is to find out the Chinatown growth since the birth of Surakarta until present and what factors have influenced its growth. The method used in this research is descriptive qualitative method using archival data sources, literature review and map observation. City theory is used to understand the city and Chinatown growth. The data was then analyzed using a comparative study with the technique of comparing three maps of Chinatown from three different periodizations: Colonial, Old Order-New Order and reform to present. The findings is that the Chinatown growth is influenced by political factors, it is a regime’s policy towards the Chinese community. The Surakarta Chinatown continued to grow organically around economic, business and trade nodes and approaching main transportation path and nodes. Its landmark is a temple. Chinatown inhabitant is not only Chinese, there are natives and other ethnicities. The biggest Chinatown growth is around Solo's golden triangle, namely around Gede Market, Klewer Market and Legi Market. It also grows around Solo City landmark, the North-South cosmological axis in Kasunanan Palace. The second rapid growth is in the Solo Baru. The trading image of Chinatown was overlap with the cultural image of Solo City.

Abstract

Based on preliminary observations at Tunas Bangsa Makassar Junior High School, pronunciation in Mandarin is quite difficult because pronunciation in Mandarin is different from Indonesian. In this regard, the purpose of this research is to determine the ability to pronounce shēngmǔ and yùnmǔ in Mandarin. This research is quantitative descriptive. The research subjects were students of class VII Tunas Bangsa Makassar Junior High School with a total of 9 students. The techniques used to collect research data are observation techniques and test techniques. The test instrument was used to determine the ability to pronounce shēngmǔ and yùnmǔ in Mandarin for class VII students of Tunas Bangsa Makassar Junior High School. The results showed that the students' average pronunciation ability was 44 with a standard deviation of 10.25 and was at intervals of 46-55. Thus it can be concluded that the level of ability to pronounce shēngmǔ and yùnmǔ in Mandarin for class VII students of Tunas Bangsa Makassar Junior High School is at moderate criteria.

Abstract

How to grasp the development opportunities brought by the Belt and Road Initiative and further expand China's tourist source market is an issue worthy of the attention of the Indonesian government. In tourism development, Indonesia should give priority to the promoting role of tourism development in the growth of economic aggregate, attach great importance to the marketing and promotion of Chinese tourist source market, and pay special attention to the large scale of Chinese tourist source market, large number of tourists and high level of expenditure, as well as the characteristics of outbound tourism consumption behavior featuring large number of independent tourists, long stay, emphasis on destination safety and tourism experience. In order to further expand the Chinese tourist market, price strategies, scenic strategies, information strategies and visa strategies can be targeted in tourism marketing promotion, so as to better promote the healthy development of Indonesian tourism and promote the sustainable growth of Indonesian national economy.

Abstract

In 2022, China and Indonesia will enter the 72nd year of diplomatic relations, and since China's Belt and Road Initiative in 2013, the relationship between China and Indonesia in the fields of humanities, economy, trade and tourism has reached a new level. Tourism cooperation between the two countries is not only an important part of the initiative, but also an important way to meet the needs of tourism development in both countries, deepen trade and economic cooperation, and promote the construction of the Belt and Road. However, the development of tourism cooperation between the two countries has outstanding problems such as security issues, insufficient depth of cooperation and single approach, while the sudden outbreak of the epidemic at the end of 2019 has dealt a heavy blow to the tourism industry of the two countries and has affected the economy and trade of them. Based on the background of the Belt and Road, this article reorganizes the background, dynamics and obstacles of China-Indonesian tourism cooperation from the perspective of the normalization of public health emergency management, and builds a new path model to promote the deepening development of tourism cooperation between the two countries based on this, with a view to becoming an important path choice to promote the optimization and upgrading of bilateral tourism cooperation between China and Indonesia.

Abstract

This research discussed the values of the main character in the Chinese movie "The Red Cliff" by John Woo. The goal of this research is to describe the main character's patriotism values as well as the impact that character's patriotism values have on the film. This research is based on Budiyono's patriotism theory. The theoretical basis used is the sociology of literary theory. This research used a descriptive qualitative method and also used listening and note-taking techniques for the data collection. This research also used Miles and Huberman's data analysis method. Based on the analysis of the Red Cliff film, it was found that some data was depicted through the two main characters. Zhūgé Liàng (诸葛亮), the main character, was awarded five data points: self-sacrifice value, courage value, unyielding value, united value, and loyalty value. Zhōu Yú (周瑜), the other main character, received four data points, which were divided into courage value, loyalty value, unyielding value, and unifying value. Thus, John Woo's Red Cliff film proved that the values of patriotism were illustrated by the two main characters.
