Abstract

Abstract: The objective of this research is to obtain the empirical evidence on the effect of chain writing method on students' writing ability of descriptive text. This research used a quantitative method with quasi-experimental design. The sample of this research is 70 students which is divided into experimental class control class that consist 35 students for each. The results of this research show that the post-test mean score of the experimental class is higher than the post-test mean score of the control class (74 > 56). According to the result of statistic calculation, it is obtained that the score of to = 8.45 > tt = 1.67 in degree of significance 5%. The score of to = 8.45 > tt = 2.39 in degree of significance 1%. It indicates that the value of tobservation is bigger than ttable. tobservation = 8.45 > ttable.= 1.67. tobservation = 8.45 > ttable.= 2.39, so Ho is rejected and Ha is accepted. Thus, it proved that the chain writing method has good effect on the teaching writing of descriptive text and effective to improve students' writing ability of descriptive text.

Abstract

The aims of study were to find out the difficulties that mostly faced by students in learning listening and find out the factors of students difficulties in learning listening. The formulated problems of this study were: (1) What are students’ difficulties found in listening at the student college of the English education department? (2) How the factors that cause the difficulties students’ in listening skill at the student college of the English education department? This study employed the qualitative research approve with case study method. Qualitative method was chosen because this study aims to analysis cases of students difficulties in listening skills. The participants of the research are 29 students from 2nd semester of English education department. Collecting the data of analysis the students difficulties in listening skills were obtained by observation, questionnaire, interviews. The result of the study showed students difficulties in listening skill there are four characteristic. The first characteristic is characteristic of the message, second characteristic of the delivery, the third is characteristic of the listener and the last is characteristic of the environment. Moreover, factors influenced are internal and external factors. Internal factors are physical condition and motivation and external factors are facilitate such as environment, speakers and materials.

Abstract

Listening is a complex processing in which the listeners take the incoming data, an acoustic signal, and interprets it based on a wide variety of linguistic and non-linguistic knowledge. The objective of this research is to find out the factors causes students’ listening anxiety in English as EFL learners at the 2nd Semester of English Education Department in the State Islamic University Sultan Maulana Hasanuddin Banten. This research used a descriptive qualitative method. The participants of this research were 28 students in class 2A. The instrument which is used in this research were observation, questionnaire and interview. The result of this research show that in the listening material factors, the students’ listening anxiety was caused by the speed rate, it is showed from 28 students there are 89,3% chose strongly agree with the statement. In lectures’ factors, the students’ listening anxiety caused by the lecturer show their frustration if the students do not know the answer, it is showed from 28 students there are 32,1% chose strongly agree with the statement. The last, in the students’ factors, the students listening anxiety caused by the environment around the student, if the environment around them is noisy they would distract and will missed the important point, it is showed from 28 students there are 50% students chose strongly agree with the statement. It can be concluded that the listening material factors are the most influential factors causing students' listening anxiety. The next influential factors are student factors, followed by lecturer factors.

Abstract

This research is to investigate the process of Students' English pronunciation in TikTok application for the tenth grade students’ of MA Negeri 2 Kota Serang, by using tongue twister technique. The subject of this research involves 60 students’ as sample among tenth class of MA Negeri 2 Kota Serang, year 2021 as population. This study employed a quantitative methodology. Pre-test and post-test techniques were used in this study's quasi-experimental design with two classes, the experimental class and the control class. According to the calculation's findings, t0 had a value of 6,7 and 58 degrees of freedom. In this study, the level of significance for the levels of 5% and 1% was 1,68 for df 58 and 2,4 for df 58, respectively. These values were shown in the table of significance. When comparing students' English pronunciation in the TikTok application with and without the tongue twister technique, the results, when compared to the test's criteria, showed a significant difference. Therefore, tongue twisters are useful and suitable to improving students' English pronunciation in the tenth grade at MA Negeri 2 Kota Serang.

Abstract

Abstract: This research aims to analyze students' speaking performances based on the extrovert and introverted personalities of students in the tenth grade of State Islamic Senior High School 1 Padang Lawas. This research uses a descriptive-qualitative method with a case study approach. The data were collected by Eysenck Personality Questionnaires (EPQ), speaking tests, and interviews. After the data was collected, it was analyzed using the Miles and Huberman model technique, which consists of three stages of data analysis: data reduction, data presentation, and verification or conclusion. The population in this study were students of class X-science, consisting of 198 students from a total of five classes. The sample used in this study amounted to 20 students using the proportional technique in the take of the sample. The findings showed that each of the 20 research samples—ten extroverts and ten introverts—had different speaking performance scores. The results of the speaking test from ten extrovert students obtained five students with good criteria and five with poor criteria. Meanwhile, the results of the speaking test for ten introverted students found that five students with poor criteria, four students obtained good criteria and one student received a speaking test result with very good criteria. From each of the extrovert and introvert students who were interviewed, they stated that they experienced several obstacles: a lack of preparation before performing, a lack of knowledge about language aspects, mispronunciation, and a lack of vocabulary. It can be concluded that students with various personality types can use various learning methods that suit the needs of each student. Therefore, whether an extrovert or an introvert, speaking performance will be better if students have sufficient linguistic knowledge and are also supported by frequent participation or good preparation.

Abstract

The purpose of this study was to find out the results of assessing students' writing skill in summary writing narrative text. In this study, researchers used a quantitative method with a quantitative descriptive design. The population in this study were students of class XII MA Cisaat Filial MAN 1 Serang. Researchers used simple random sampling technique. The research instrument is a written test. The researcher used an assessment rubric to determine students' ability to write summaries. In the rubric assessment there are five indicators, namely: content, organization, grammar, mechanics, and vocabulary. The result of this study is that students' summary writing skills are included in the "fair" category, with an average of 66.6. This can be seen from the assessment carried out on the results of writing student summaries. In the assessment of the five indicators, most students also get the "fair" category.
