Abstract

This is related to the existence of financial inclusion from the government which leads to economic improvement for small entrepreneurs in the region. However, the people's economy cannot be absorbed by all groups. In the people of Padang Island, Riau, people’s economic policies only apply to minority groups. The group is ethnic Malays and Javanese. While minority groups such as the Akit people (native) group did not get this right. This is because this system is biased towards ethnic problems. Akit people as descendants of Orang Suku Laut (OSL) are considered to have no ability in financial management and business plan. Thus, the cooperative economic system in the village only benefits the majority. The failure of the populist economic system in certain ethnic groups is an important note for the government to overcome ethnic and racial boundaries in carrying out an economy that is friendly to the small people.Keynote: populist economy, Padang Island, Akit people, minority, democracy economy.

Abstract

Abstract

Abstract

This paper examines mass and leadership based on the text of The Crowd by Gustave Le Bon. With this critical reading of Le Bon's text, there are two other possible perspectives in understanding the relationship between mass and leadership. The first possibility is that mass is a reflection of a particular culture, the result of a particular historical process, so that leaders appearing in the crowd are still bound by a dominant system or value, at least they must adjust to the tradition to the extent that they live among their followers. The second possibility relates to the radical aspects inherent in the masses, including the leaders. For us in Indonesia, Le Bon's work is relevant to understanding contemporary practice when mass actions affect the latest dynamics of society.

However, social model concept of disability defining disability as a product of social oppression, gave tremendous effect to deconstruct the term for “disabled persons” which is in Indonesian means “penyandang cacat”. Inspired by social model, the Indonesian disability movement tried to change it into DIFABEL which means “differently-abled-people.  The research was done in Yogyakarta before Indonesia ratifying the Convention on The Rights of Person with Disabilities, 2011. The findings are the disability movement got their momentous moment in changing the new paradigm in Indonesian presidential election, 2004. DPOs which have been engaged to this issue underwent fragmentation into many aspects, they also bequeathed into next generation concerning disability issues.

Abstract

This study discusses the social adaptation of the NU Kedungharjo (Nahdlatul Ulama) community in the relocation place of the Muhammadiyah community as a result of the construction of the Solo-Ngawi toll road. As a result of the development, residents of Kedungharjo who were affected by land acquisition had to move. In this study the Kedungahrjo community had moved in Sengon and Dukuhan Hamlets. The hamlet is an urban or semi-urban peri region with heterogeneous citizens in social, cultural areas including the existence of differences in Islamic religious groups between NU and Muhammadiyah. To overcome this, the residents of Kedungharjo must readjust to the place of movement in overcoming the differences in the Islamic religious group. The researcher chose to use the theory of Robert K. Merton to see the adaptation process that had been carried out by residents of Kedungharjo to overcome the differences in the religious groups by using 5 typologies from Merton namely Conformity, Ritualism, Retreatism, Innovation and Rebelion. The research method used is to use qualitative methods with the approach of case studies and data collection techniques through observation, interviews and documentation. The results of this study have found that residents of Kedungharjo adapted to overcome the differences in the religious group with a typology of conformity, namely following religious activities in the relocation site. The second typology is using ritualism, namely the people of Kedungharjo who still maintain the values and norms believed by the NU people. The third typology is to use the retreatism adaptation process, which is the form of resignation by not participating in the religious activities of the Muhammadiyah group. And the last typology in the process of adaptation carried out by residents of Kedungharjo is to use Innovation, namely by holding religious activities in the place of transfer. With adjustments made by the Kedungharjo community, they have experienced social articulation by not being able to mix it from the NU and Muhammadiyah groups from religious activities. Keywords: Urban Elf, NU and Muhammadiyah, Social Adaptation, Social Disarticulation.
