Journal of Linguistics, Literacy, and Pedagogy (JLLP) is a biannually electronic journal, published every May and November in online versions by the English Education Department, Faculty of Teacher’s Training and Education, Universitas Sultan Ageng Tirtayasa, Banten – Indonesia with e-ISSN: 2964-6790. The journal publishes high-quality works on various issues in Linguistics, literacy, and pedagogy for research-based articles. Journal of Linguistics, Literacy, and Pedagogy (JLLP) invites researchers and practitioners to submit their manuscripts through our Online Submission System. The manuscripts being submitted to the Journal of Linguistics, Literacy, and Pedagogy should strictly be original and plagiarism-free publication, and not been submitted or published elsewhere. Abstract

Food literacy and food waste have not received special attention from both the Indonesian government and society. However, considering that the country produces the second largest food waste in the world, ranking 100th at literacy and a stunting prevalence rate of 24.4% in 2021, the introduction and education of students about this issue is very important and urgent. This study aims to determine the urgency, constraints, and strategies for food literacy and food waste for children at school. This research uses a descriptive qualitative approach. Data collection through the study of research literature and relevant information. The results of the study show that the introduction of food literacy and food waste has a high level of urgency considering the environmental impact and future sustainability of Indonesia. Another supporting factor is that Indonesia's 2030 green growth policy can be used as a driver and basis for policy. Then, there are three obstacles to the success of this effort, teacher capacity, culture, policies, and alignments. This research also describes strategies that can be used, literacy school programs, use of interactive educational media, and collaboration with social media influencers and public figures.

Abstract

Numerous digital platforms have been invented to provide flexible and joyful learning process. For instance, online learning platforms enable students to read and write related to their passion. In providing digital literacy for learning, one of the most valuable platforms can be used is Wattpad, an online reading and writing platform with various genres. Wattpad offers free features to have extensive reading and creative writing. This platform is an effective media to foster students’ reading interest and emerge students to express creativities in writing. This study attempted to investigate the effectiveness of digital platform Wattpad as a learning media to foster literacy skills such as reading and writing. The research used descriptive qualitative method and the data were collected by library research which reviewed related studies about Wattpad. Based on several studies reviewed, it was found that there is a positive feedback of using Wattpad as a learning media to improve literature skills. Those empirical studies revealed that by using Wattpad students can improve their learning habits in terms of reading and writing. Therefore, Wattpad is an alternative media to provide an enjoyable learning experience which has purposes for any aspects such as for career, education, learning, creativity and entertainment.

Abstract

A metaphor is a figure of speech that contrasts two unrelated items and helps communicate complex ideas or emotions by drawing on familiar or concrete concepts. Metaphor is often utilized in poetry, novels, films, songs, etc. This study provides a metaphorical analysis of the lyrics of "Another One Bites the Dust," a hit song by the British rock band, the Queen, published in 1980. Using a semantic approach, the study investigates the numerous layers of meaning provided by the song's lyrics, which have been interpreted variously by fans and critics throughout the years. The paper offers a detailed analysis of the song's metaphors and the function of the metaphors, including analyzing the metaphor "another one bites the dust" as a euphemism for death in one Santa Fe High School shooting in 2018, one of the deadliest mass shootings in the United States. The study concludes by reflecting on the song's lasting popularity and cultural relevance and the difficulties and opportunities associated with understanding metaphorical meaning in popular music. Based on the analysis, the writers discovered 15 metaphor data and 4 metaphor functions in the lyrics of "Another One Bites the Dust.”

Abstract

The objectives of this research were to describe the implementation of Listen English Daily Practice in learning listening comprehension and to find out the students' responses in using the application. This research employed descriptive qualitative research, conducted at SMA Islam Al-Layyinah. The data was obtained from the observation, interviews, and documentation. The findings show that the implementation of application was carried out in three stages of followed the pre-listening, while-listening, and post-listening phases. The application was uesful to assist the students in learning listening comprehension in the classroom. Moreover, the application helped the students to enhance their listening comprehension ability. Apart from that, the use of the applications received positive feedback from the learners as the suggested that the application provided the familiar topics, interesting features of the app, joyful learning process, and easy to use.

Abstract

A communication tool with a poor reputation in society is propaganda. This is the result of a long history of the development of propaganda and its erroneous use to influence public opinion as propaganda is used, it gets worse. In actuality, propaganda is merely a method, or depending on who uses it and the objectives it seeks, a communication tool may be helpful or terrible to succeed. People's lives have been impacted by the advancement of communication technologies. New media, which eventually gave rise to social media, is one area of communication technology development. since thing. The mass media currently holds a very critical position in terms of providing access to individuals who require information. The existence of the mass media is thought to be able to aid humans by facilitating access for people to obtain the information they require, in accordance with human nature, specifically, curiosity about everything. Cangara (2002) asserts that social media is a tool employed in transmitting messages from the source to the audience.
