Abstract

Mathematical communication is a basic ability that every students should have in learning. But the reality students’ mathematical communication in class VIII SMP N 11 Padang were still low, so that it needed to be improved. The teachers inclined use teacher centered learning. To solve this problem, teacher needed to apply a learning method that could facilitate the students in understanding the material and to build their knowledge. Learning method that appropriated was learning cycle 5E. Type of this research was quasi-experiment with Static Group Design. Based on data analysis that using the t-test, it is obtained P-value = 0.012< α = 0.05, it can conclude that students’ mathematical communication ability by using Learning Cycle 5E is better than the students that learn by using conventional learning.Keywords - conventional learning, learning cycle 5e, mathematical communication

Abstract

One of the goals of mathematics learning is to understand the concepts of mathematics. But in reality, students' understanding of mathematics concept in SMAN 5 Bukittinggi wasn’t optimal, it seen from the results of the test given. The solution was applied strategy of REACT. The purpose of the research was both to describe understanding of mathematics concepts of students who studied with the strategy of REACT and to describe whether understanding of mathematics concepts of students who studied with the strategy of REACT was better than understanding of mathematics concepts of students who studied with direct learning models. The type of research was quasy experiment and descriptive research with the static group design research design. Based on the results of the quiz, tests and hypothesis testing, an increase in understanding the concepts of students is obtained and understanding the concepts of students who learn to use REACT strategy is better than understanding the concepts of students who learn with direct learning models. It can be concluded that the REACT strategy influences understanding of mathematics concepts. Keywords – REACT Learning Strategies, Understanding of mathematical concepts.

Abstract

Understandingof mathematical concepts ability is one of the basic capabilities that should be owned by everylearners in the learning of mathematics. However, the 8th grade of mathematics in Junior High School 10 Padang, students mathematical conceptsability was not optimal yet. It was becausethe learning process wasstill teacher-centered. To overcome this, teacher neededto apply the learning model to facilitatethe students for understanding of mathematical conceptsto improve their own knowledge. The learning model that could be usedCooperative Learning type Think Talk Write (TTW). This kind of research was quasi experiment, with Static Group Design. Based on the results of data analysis is using t-test, it is obtained P-value=0,023 < α=0.05, so it can be concluded that the ability of the understanding of mathematical concepts of students who studies with Cooperative Learning type TTW is better than those who learns with conventional learning. Keywords–conventional learning, cooperative learning,mathematical concepts , think talk write

Abstract

Understanding of mathematical concepts is the main ability in learning that must be mastered by students. The learning objectives of mathematics will be achieved if students are able to understand the concepts of the material provided. However, the fact that understanding the mathematical concepts of class VIII students at SMPN 3 Padang still needs to be improved. An alternative that can be used to improve understanding of concepts and activities of students in the learning process is to apply a cooperative model of think pair square type. The study was conducted to determine the effect of our ability to understand concepts and activities of students by applying the TPSq. This type of research is quasi-experimental with the design of Static Group Design. For testing the hypothesis t-test is used. Based on the results of data analysis, obtained P-value = 0.020 <α = 0.05 so it can be concluded that the ability to understand mathematical concepts of students with TPSq is better than the ability to understand mathematical concepts of students whose learning applies conventional learning to class VIII of SMPN3 Padang.Keywords— cooperative learning, Think Pair Square, mathematical concepts, conventional learning

Abstract

Mathematical problem solving ability of students of class X MIPA SMA Negeri 2 Padang were low.  The causes were the application of learning based on the 2013 curriculum had not run optimally and students had not been trained to do non-routine questions. Therefore, a learning model was needed that can improve students' mathematical problem solving abilities, namely the Probem Based Learning (PBL) model. The PBL model is a learning model that begins with real problems developed from the knowledge already possessed. PBL is carried out in groups and students exchange ideas in completing the questions given. This model was expected to overcome students' mathematical problem solving abilities. This study aimed to determine how the application of the PBL model in learning in class X MIPA SMA Negeri 2 Padang. The results of the study show that students' mathematical problem solving abilities using PBL are better than conventional learning. The real level used is 0.05. So, it can be concluded that PBL can improve students' mathematical problem solving abilities.Keywords— Problem based learning, problem solving, real problems

Abstract

The result of preliminary studies suggest that students’ mathematical reasoning abilities on topic probability was low. This is due to the teaching of teachersthat are too focused on textbooks, while the presentation of topic probability is not fully adequate to guide students in learning.This research aimed to developing instructional design with the Realistic Mathematic Education (RME) approach on topic probability for Senior High School grade XII using Gravemeijer and Cobb model which consists of three phases, namely the preparing for the experiment), the conducting experiment) and the retrospective analysis.The subjects research were SMAN 2 Painan grade XII. The learning design in question is a learning path known as the Hypotetical Learning Trajectory (HLT). HLT is a learning flow consisting of learning objectives, learning activities, and learning process hypotheses to predict how students' thoughts and understanding will develop in the context of learning activities.The result showed that the development of instructional learning design with realistic mathematic education on topic probability in senior high school grade XII was valid and practice.Keywords–Realistic Mathematics Education, Probability, Design Research, Hypotetical Learning Trajectory

Abstract

Learning outcomes can be used as a benchmark to knowing the success of mastering a lesson. However, the learning outcomes of Grade students of VIII SMP 3 Batang Kapas are still low. One effort to overcome this problem is by applying the active learning type type The Power Of Two. This type of research is quasi-experiment with the Static Group Design research design. The instrument of this research is the final test. Sampling is done by Simple Random Sampling. Data analysis was carried out, namely t-test. The final test analysis shows the results of mathematics learning of students who learn the active learning strategies of The Power Of Two type better than the results of mathematics learning of students who learn with direct learning models. Abstract

Mathematical communication is one of abilities that students should have it in mathematics learning. However, the fact showed that students’ communication ability of XII IPA SMAN 7 Padang were low. Based on observation, it could be concluded that the learning was teacher - centered which caused students learned passively. One of solutions that could be done was applying  cooperative learning model of  TSTS type. This research was both descriptive and quasi experiment with randomized control group pretest - posttest design. Based on analysis, it got that P-value = 0,010, so it can be concluded that students’ who study with TSTS learning model is better than students’ who study with conventional learning. Therefore, students’ mathematical communication ability who study with cooperative learning of TSTS type is better than students’ who study with conventional learning.Keywords– conventional learning, cooperatif learning type TSTS, mathematical communication abilities.

Abstract

Mathematical reasoning ability is one of the eight goals of mathematics learning that must be achieved. However, in the fact the mathematical reasoning abilities of Grade VII students in Padang 8 Junior High School were still low. One effort to improve student’s mathematical reasoning ability was to apply the cooperative learning model type Group Investigation. The purpose of this study was to compare the mathematical reasoning abilities of students who learn using the cooperative learning model type Group Investigation with conventional learning in class VII of SMP 8 Padang. This type of research was a quasi-experimental study with the design of Static Group Design. Based on the results of the research conducted, it can be concluded several things as follows. obtained P-value = 0.028 < α = 0.05, so in other words mathematical reasoning ability that is learning using the cooperative learning type Group Investigation model is better than those who learn using conventional learningKeywords – cooperative learning model, Group Investigation, Mathematical reasoning ability.

Abstract

Mathematical reasoning is one of the abilities that must be developed by students in learning mathematics. But in the reality in class IX SMPN 1 Nan Sabaris the mathematical reasoning of students is still low. This is because the less facilitated student learning to develop thinking patterns. One of the way that can increase the students ability of mathematical reasoning is by applying Think, Talk, Write strategy in the mathematics learning.
