JurnalPendidikan Biologi (JPB) is a biology journal of education and learning published twice a year in March and September by The Biology Education Graduated and Master Programme of PGRI Ronggolawe University of Tuban. Its contains articles that have been never published or sent to other journals related to research in the field of biology education with the topics: 1) Teaching and learning; 2) Case study, lesson study, classroom action research, experiments, and others; 3) Education curriculum; 4) Learning evaluation; 5) Learning media; 6) Development of teaching materials; 7) School management or laboratory management; 8) Problems / trends in the field of education; 9)Biological sciences. JPB (Jurnal Pendidikan Biologi) was published twice a year, in March and September as well as at least 5 articles per issue.

Abstract

Artikel ini bertujuan untuk mengkaji dan memberikan gambaran mengenai hakikat literasi sains; analisis literasi sains siswa Indonesia berdasarkan hasil data PISA tahun 2000-2008, serta upaya dan gagasan untuk pengembangan literasi sains di Indonesia melalui pendekatan saintifik. Berdasarkan hasil penelitian ini menggunakan metode yang berupa studi literatur. Penelitian ini dilakukan pada tanggal 20 Desember sampai 24 Desember 2021. Pengumpulan data yang digunakan dari buku, jurnal, dokumen, dan sumber-sumber yang berupa fakta dan relevan. Literasi sains adalah suatu kompetensi yang dimiliki oleh seseorang agar bisa menggunakan pengetahuan pada sains membuat pertanyaan-pertanyaan, dan kesimpulan sesuai dengan adanya bukti-bukti yang benar yang bertujuan untuk mendapatkan hasil keputusan yang berhubungan dengan fenomena yang terjadi pada kegiatan siswa. Pendekatan saintifik sangat menonjolkan dalam pembelajaran yang berpusat pada siswa, sehingga pendekatan saintifik lebih menekankan pada proses berinquiri yang digunakan dalam Kurikulum 2013. Pendekatan saintifik sangat dibutuhkan dan diterapkan dalam proses pembelajaran kepada siswa-siswi karena buktikti dapat meningkatkan literasi sains terhadap siswa.

Abstract

The development of the Science Module based on the Problem Solving Method is based on the background of analyzing the needs of students and teachers who really need references to science subjects according to their characteristics and needs. The purpose of this development is to develop a science learning module based on the problem solving method of Class IX semester I according to the needs and characteristics of students, especially from the aspect of learning objectives, learning implementation plans, module grids, and module evaluations. The development of this science learning module uses a questionnaire or questionnaire instrument. The object of this research is the IX grade students at SMPN 1 Bangilan Tuban. The results of data analysis are used to revise the development of learning modules for science subjects based on the probem solving method according to the trial design. To make it easier to make revision decisions, a qualifying level of feasibility assessment will be used with a scoring system and specified eligibility criteria. The results of this study indicate that the learning objectives, design, grid, and evaluation of learning are using the Problem Solving Method which has been revised by experts. designer, material expert, one-on-one trial that got a good score because it was on the right of the Likert scale with a median of 2.5. So it can be concluded that the integrated science module material for class IX semester 1 reflects the learning module through learning a good Problem Solving Method.

Abstract

This study aims to improve the motivation and learning outcomes of 4th grader at MI Miftahul Ulum Pekuwon, Rengel, Tuban after the Outdoor Activity method was applied in Theme 3, sub-Theme 2: The Diversity of Living Things in My Environment. This research is a Classroom Action Research (CAR) conducted in 2 cycles, including planning, implementation, observation and evaluation, and reflection. The research subjects were students of class IV MI Miftahul Ulum, totaling 23 students. Data collection techniques used interviews, observations, tests, and documentation. The data obtained were analyzed by quantitative descriptive methods, including data reduction, data presentation, and drawing conclusions. Based on the results of data analysis, it is known that the average pre-cycle learning outcome is 44.78, with classical completeness 8.7%. In cycle 1, the average percentage of student responses was 90.87% in the very good category and the average learning outcome was 69.13 with 65.22% classical completeness. In cycle 2, the average percentage of student responses was 94.89% in the very good category and the average learning outcome was 78.26 with 95.65% learning completeness. The results of this study indicate that the application of the Outdoor Activity method can increase the motivation and learning outcomes of fourth grade students of MI Miftahul Ulum.

Abstract

This study aims to determine the design and validity of the science worksheets based on contextual teaching and learning on environmental pollution materials to improve students' critical thinking skills. This research is a development research using the ADDIE model (Analyze, Design, Development, Implementation, Evaluation). The worksheets that have been developed then go through a validation stage by material experts and media experts who are lecturers at PGRI Ronggolawe University Tuban. After going through the revision stage, the science worksheets based on contextual teaching and learning were then tested on users, namely science teachers and seventh grade junior high school students. The science worksheets based on contextual teaching and learning obtained good results from experts, namely 89.7% from media experts and 94,2% from material experts. Based on these results, this IPA LKS is declared to be very valid and worthy of being tested by users, although with a few suggestions and improvements. After going through the expert validation stage, the science worksheets were then tested on users and showed good results, namely 94.1% of science teachers and 90,5% of seventh grade junior high school students. From the results of the assessment of the users of LKS IPA based on contextual teaching and learning, the results are very valid. The conclusion of this study states that the science worksheets based on contextual teaching and learning on environmental pollution materials to improve students' critical thinking skills are stated to be very valid and feasible to be used as student learning materials.

Abstract

This study aims to describe the implementation of thematic learning, describe the learning outcomes of 5th grade elementary school students, the obstacles experienced, as well as efforts to overcome obstacles in the implementation of an e-learning learning management system with a simple webview-based LMS. This type of research is descriptive qualitative research. The subjects of this study were teachers and students of class V SDN Sumurjalak 1. The data collection techniques in this study were observation, interviews and documentation. Interviews were conducted directly with class teachers and students. Observations were made during thematic learning using an e-learning learning management system with a simple webview-based LMS. The data that has been collected is then reduced, then presented in the form of descriptions, tables and figures which are then given conclusions. The implementation of thematic learning in this study presents material on the theme of 6 sub-themes 1 class V, namely Heat and its Transfer. In this online learning, students use a simple LMS based on a webview. The LMS used is equipped with a platform that contains a summary of learning materials, learning videos and student worksheets that have been arranged coherently according to the learning steps with an interesting presentation. Student learning outcomes after using this LMS have increased. Students also feel happy and interested in participating in online learning with a simple LMS. However, in the implementation of thematic learning using LMS there are several obstacles including (1) Inadequate or limited quotas; (2) Unstable internet connection due to home environment conditions; (3) There is distraction in the home environment (noisy, often ordered to); (4) Insufficient device capacity to install online learning support applications and subject file storage. (5) late submission of assignments. Efforts made by schools and teachers in overcoming existing obstacles are trying their best to present interesting, creative and fun learning besides encouraging teachers to be creative and innovative in creating interesting online learning for students. availability of existing technological facilities, so that online learning can run as previously planned. Then to minimize delays in collecting assignments and following online learning the teacher can guide students to prepare in the previous days.

Abstract

The causes of the low literasi science in indonesia can be seen based on gender, economic and social, as well as immigration. Related to gender, in a learning process in class teacher does not distinguish between gender students, but in this case very students need to understand scientific attitude based on gender. This research aims to determine the scientific attitude of tenth graders of SMA Negeri 2 Kotapinang and students' scientific attitudes towards male and female students. The research sample consisted of 107 tenth grade students from a population of 107 students consisting of three classes at SMA Negeri 2 Kotapinang. The technique of taken sample using the techniques of total sampling in order to better data analysis. This research using descriptive method with quantitative approach. The research instrument was in the form of a non-test, namely a questionnaire on students' scientific attitudes with using likert scale. Data analysis techniques to do with descriptive statistics acording to average and inferential. The results of the study show that the scientific attitude of tenth graders at SMA Negeri 2 Kotapinang is quite good (73,63), the scientific attitude of students for male students was obtained at (70.62) and female students were obtained at (75.15) which were both classified as good.

Abstract

The character of caring for the environment must be grown from an early age. Environmental damage which was previously considered a local problem within a country, has now penetrated and spilled over into a global issue. The emergence of environmental problems is mostly caused by human activities. This indicates that human concern for the environment in which they live is starting to fade. Therefore concern for the environment needs to be instilled from an early age. The character of caring for the environment must be taught in junior high schools, one of which is through science learning. The purpose of this study was to form the character of caring for the environment in junior high school students through the science material learning model. The method used in this research is qualitative. Data was collected through documentation and literature studies. Data were analyzed through data reduction, data display, and conclusion drawing/verification which were restated through discussion in descriptive form. The results of the literature study show that the formation of a caring character for the environment through science learning can be done by designing student-focused learning. Science learning provides opportunities for students to interact with the environment directly. Several learning models that can be used by teachers to shape the character of caring for the environment in students, such as Problem Based Learning (PBL), Project Based Learning (PjBL), Contextual Teaching and Learning (CTL), and Outdoor Learning methods. Teaching materials and learning media also play an important role in shaping the character of caring for the environment in students.

Abstract

The purpose of this research was to apply STEM-based learning to improve the 21st Century Skills of Madrasah Aliyah students. The subject of study is class X MA Nurul Huda Kragan Rembang, Central Java. The procedures research consists of the preparation, implementation, and presentation stages. The learning design used in this study is a quasi-experimental design with a nonequivalent control group design model. The STEM ability profiles studied are 1) Critical Thinking (providing connections between various scientific knowledge learned by students and real-life problems); 2) Creative (directing students to apply their knowledge through an engineering design process to create a technological solution to a problem); 3) Collaborative (proving that problem solving is possible by pairing machines, this modeling is then tested and the results will be evaluated whether the problem solving solution model is effective for solving the problem or not, if it is deemed ineffective then the design of the problem solving model is improved) t; 4) Communicative (able to calculate the impact that occurs when using the technology that has been made). After applyed STEM-based learning, the Critical Thinking skills of MA Nurul Huda Kragan students increased by 27.69%, Creative abilities increased by 12.00%, Collaborative abilities increased by 17.23%, and Communicative abilities increased by 36.92%.

Abstract

Corona virus diseases 2019 (Covid-19) had spread throughout the world including Indonesia. The high number of cases in Indonesia had  impacts in various fields, including education, in which online learning was implemented, as a form of learning adaptation to reduce the spread of Covid-19 in Indonesia. The implementation of online learning had caused the phenomenon of Loss Learning, namely the existence of certain conditions that cause a decrease in students' mastery of competence, due to loss of knowledge and skills. This was triggered by a new learning atmosphere, where the students were not used to it.. This study aims at seeing the responses of SMP 7 Tuban students to the implementation of online learning to the occurrence of loss learning. This study applied a descriptive qualitative research. The data were collected by distributing  questionnaires to 64 students from classes IX-A and IX-B in science subjects. The results showed that by implementing online learning 50% of students were not pleased, 31% of students said they were not quite pleased, and 19% of students were quite pleased with online learning. From these data it can be concluded that the responses of the students to online learning is low, because half of the students expressed displeasure. This condition can result in low learning motivation of  the students and the loss learning phenomenon.

Abstract

Spinach, whose scientific name is Spinacia oleracea (Amaranthus sp.) Spinach is a C4 plant, which has a unique anatomy, known as kranz anatomy, which is distinctive of C4 plants. This study employs a descriptive methodology. According to the findings of this study, there are variations in the number, average density, and size of sheath cells. The maximum number of bundle sheath cells, 998, was identified in snapper/elephant spinach (A. hybridus L.). The average number of cell density was 63, and there were 148 vascular bundles. The obtained leaf thickness was 234 m, while the cell sizes were between 26 and 39 m. While red spinach (A. amoena Voss.) has the lowest number of bundle sheath cells, 872, the average number of cell density was 62 with 134 vascular bundles. The obtained leaf thickness was 156 m, and the cell sizes were 26 and 39 m. In spinach spines (A. spinosus L.), there are 990 sheath cells with an average cell density of 71 and 132 vascular bundles surrounding it. The obtained leaf thickness was 130 m, and the cell sizes were 26 and 39 m. While the findings on the kranz anatomy of the three spinach species did not reveal any major differences, this is because the kranz morphology is characteristic of C4 plants. The sole distinguishing characteristics are the sheath cells' density and size.
