Indonesian Language Teaching & Literature Journal publishes manuscripts on research in language teaching, literature, and linguistics. Indonesian Language Teaching & Literature Journal features research novelties and significance for scientific advancement in one of the fields of the published manuscripts. Abstract

This study aims to describe the form of commissive and declarative illocutionary speech acts contained in the novel Orang Biasa by Andrea Hirata, and describe the relevance of the research results to Indonesian language learning in high school. The research design used is descriptive qualitative. The data in this research are texts (words and sentences containing commissive and declarative illocutionary speech acts). The data collection technique was obtained by using reading method and note-taking technique. Data analysis technique is done by identifying, classifying, and describing. Based on John R. Searle's theory, the result shows that there are commissive and declarative illocutionary speech acts in the novel Orang Biasa by Andrea Hirata. Commissive illocutionary speech acts include representative acts, namely: promise, threaten, swear, offer, plan, obligation. Declarative acts, namely: naming, pointing, deciding, cancelling, prohibiting, allowing, and forgiving.  The relevance of the research results to Indonesian language learning in high school can be focused on listening skills.

Abstract

This study aims to describe the form of verbal and nonverbal reinforcement in Indonesian language learning for students of class XII SMA Negeri 11 Makassar. The approach in this research uses a descriptive qualitative approach, the data source is the XII grade Indonesian language teacher. Data collection techniques in this research are recording techniques and note-taking techniques. Data analysis techniques used data reduction, data presentation, and conclusion drawing. The results showed that the grade XII Indonesian language teacher had implemented verbal form of reinforcement in Indonesian language learning and nonverbal form in Indonesian language learning. The reinforcement given is quite varied, but the diction needs to be developed again.

Abstract

This study aims to describe the effect of using the Wattpad application on the ability to write short story texts of grade XI students at SMK Negeri 1 Makassar. This research is a type of Quantitative research. The research design used in this research is One-Group Prestest-Posttest Design. The population in this study were grade XI students of SMK Negeri 1 Makassar totalling 428 students. The sampling used was simple random sampling technique. The sample in this study amounted to 50 students. The data collection technique in this study was a description test technique. The collected data were analysed with descriptive statistics and inferential statistics. The results of the students' pretest showed an average score of 50.10 in the poor category and the posttest with an average score of 81.70 in the good category. Based on the results of the Wicoxon Nonparametric test, the results of the pretest and posttest data analysis show that the sig value of 0.000 <0.05 is obtained, so Ha is accepted and H0 is rejected. This means that "there is an effect of Wattpad application on the ability to write short story text of class XI students at SMK Negeri 1 Makassar.

Abstract

This study aims to describe the use of language in early childhood in the home and school environment in Bulukunyi Village, South Polongbangkeng District, Takalar Regency. This type of research is classified as qualitative research, which is analysed descriptively. The data in this study are the utterances used by early childhood while playing in the home and school environment. The key instrument and used tools in the form of videos and cameras. The source of data in this study is class B students of Hilmawan Kindergarten, Takalar Regency with 23 students.  This research data is data obtained from the results of observations and interviews of researchers on students of Hilmawan Kindergarten, Takalar Regency. The results show that the use of language in early childhood in Bulukunyi Village, Polongbangkengeng Selatan District, Takalar Regency uses two languages, namely Makassar language and Indonesian language which is called code mix. The results obtained, early childhood is more dominant in using non-standard Indonesian, but the position of the use of Makassar language can still be declared not extinct because early childhood when communicating still uses code mix.

Abstract

This study aims to describe the form, implementation and impact of the literacy programme implemented at SDN Unggulan Bontomanai, Bontomarannu Sub-district, Gowa Regency. The research data was obtained from interviews with teachers, observations and distributing questionnaires to 29 grade V students. Based on the results of interviews and observations, it was found that the form of literacy programme used is reading-writing literacy and its application has three stages, namely the habituation stage, the development stage, and the learning stage. In the habituation stage, students are accustomed to reading or being read books other than textbooks, then discussion activities are carried out related to the books read. At the development stage, literacy implementation is carried out with the aim of consolidating students' interest in reading and increasing students' understanding. At the learning stage, students have been able to capture and re-explain the material provided well. The results of the questionnaire accumulation show that the literacy programme implemented at Bontomanai Primary School has a positive impact, such as reading becoming a student habit, the school library becoming more lively, and the way students think being creative, critical and innovative.

Abstract

This study aims to describe the use of persona deixis, place deixis, and time deixis in children aged 3-5 years in Antang Landfill Settlement Makassar. This type of research is qualitative research. The data in the research is in the form of oral speech data in the form of words, phrases, clauses or sentences contained in the speech of children aged 3-5 years. The data collection technique is done through listening techniques, recording techniques, note-taking techniques, and transliteration. The result of the study reveals that the use of deixis in children aged 3-5 years in Antang Makassar landfill settlement includes three types of deixis namely persona deixis, place deixis, and time deixis. The use of persona deixis in children aged 3-5 years in Antang Makassar landfill settlement found first person singular deixis in the form of the word "I", "-ku", (ka, ja) meaning "me" and first person plural deixis in the form of the word "we". The second person singular deixis is "you", (ko, ki) meaning "you". The third person singular deixis is the word (he, she, her). The use of place deixis of 3-5 years old children in Antang Makassar landfill settlement is (here, there, above, there, here, there, this, that, di-, ke-). The use of time deixis of 3-5 years old children in Antang Makassar landfill settlement is (briefly, first, tomorrow, earlier, yesterday).

Abstract

This study aims to describe the motivational aspects of the main character in the novel Merry Riana Mimpi Sejuta Dolar by Alberthiene Endah, a psychological review of Abraham Maslow. This type of research is qualitative descriptive research. This qualitative research makes the researcher the key instrument. The data collection techniques used are documentation techniques, reading techniques, and note-taking techniques. Data analysis techniques use data reduction, data presentation, inference and verification. Finally, data validity checking is done by triangulation. The results showed two things, first, the existence of motivation in the novel Merry Riana: A Million Dollar Dream by Albetheine Endah which includes: motivation to meet physiological needs, motivation to meet security needs, motivation to meet social needs, motivation to meet self-esteem needs, and motivation to meet self-actualisation needs. In addition, another motivation was also found, namely economic motivation.

Abstract

This study aims to describe the effect of problem solving learning method on critical reading ability of grade VIII students of SMPN 4 Marioriawa. This research is a quantitative research with one group pretest-posttest design. This research involved VIII grade students of SMPN 4 Marioriawa totalling 35 people. The data collection technique in this study used a multiple choice test totalling 20 questions. The results of data analysis showed that: (1) the critical reading ability of grade VIII students of SMPN 4 Marioriawa before the application of problem solving learning method was categorised as low with an average score of 10.37; (2) the critical reading ability of grade VIII students of SMPN 4 Marioriawa after the application of problem solving learning method was categorised as high with an average score of 16.26; and (3) the results of hypothesis testing showed that the sig. (2-tailed) value of 0.000 <0.05, so it is concluded that there is an effect of problem solving learning method on critical reading ability of grade VIII students of SMPN 4 Marioriawa.

Abstract

This study aims to describe the effect caused after using animated video-based learning media on class X students of SMK Negeri 6 Pangkep. This research is a pre-experimental research with a quantitative approach, the population in this study were all students of class X SMK Negeri 6 Pangkep. Data collection techniques in this study were written tests and data analysis techniques, namely normality tests and hypothesis tests using the SPSS 23 computer program: student learning outcomes before using animated videos obtained an average value of 30.86. Student learning outcomes after using animated videos obtained an average value of 72.90. The use of animated videos can be concluded to have an effect on improving listening skills and learning outcomes of class X students of SMK Negeri 6 Pangkep in the 2022/2023 school year.

Abstract

This research aims to describe the ability to determine information in intensive reading of fiction texts in Class X MAN 2 Makassar City students; to describe the ability to interpret information in intensive reading of fiction texts in Class X MAN 2 Makassar City students; and to describe the ability to evaluate information in intensive reading of fiction texts in Class X MAN 2 Makassar City students. The variables used are the ability to determine information, interpret information, and the ability to evaluate information of Class X MAN 2 Makassar City students. The population in this study were all 12 Class X MAN 2 Makassar City students, while the sample was 2 classes, namely Class X-7 and Class X-11 with a total of 80 students. The research data was obtained by giving a multiple choice test consisting of 25 questions. The data analysis technique is descriptive statistics. Based on the results of descriptive statistical analysis, it was found that the ability to determine information for Class X MAN 2 Makassar City students was very capable; the information interpretation ability of Class X MAN 2 Makassar City students is very capable; and the information evaluation ability of Class X MAN 2 Makassar City students is very capable.
