Abstract

The objective of this research is to identify and analyze the magnitude of probability of default in Indonesian banks in the period of 2007-2021 using macroeconomic stress testing based on the severely adverse scenario simulation coming from macroeconomic variable shocks. This quantitative deductive research use multiple linear regression. The independent variables are real GDP growth, inflation, interest rate, and world oil price, while the dependent variable is probability of default that is proxied by net NPL. The stress test used in this study includes sensitivity testing amd hypothetical scenario testing. Using Bank BRI, Bank Mandiri, and Bank BCA as the sample, this research produces different effects and magnitudes in the probability of default of BUKU IV banks, in which the said probability in the overall shows sensitive results in the event of macroeconomics variable shocks. In addition, the results of the study show that the real GDP variable and world oil prices have a negative and significant effect on the probability of default of Bank BRI, Bank Mandiri, and Bank BCA, then the exchange rate variable has a positive and significant effect on the probability of default of Bank BRI, Bank Mandiri. , and Bank BCA. While the inflation variable has a positive and insignificant effect on the probability of default of Bank BRI, Bank Mandiri, and Bank BCA. The last variable, namely interest rates, has a positive and insignificant effect on Bank BRI and Bank BCA, but has a significant effect on Bank Mandiri.

Abstract

One of the ways to handle the impact of the Covid-19 pandemic on the economic sector is by increasing credit distribution, which is considered capable of encouraging an increase in a country's economic activity. This quantitative study aims to identify the effect of credit interest rate, inflation, and exchange rate on the types of commercial banks’ credit distribution in Indonesia using multiple linear regression. This research uses secondary. Information about interest rate was obtained from Statistics Indonesia, while data about inflation, exchange rate, and the three types of credit distribution channel was acquired form Bank Indonesia. The types of credit are consumptive, investment, and working capital credit. This study finds that interest rate has a significant and negative effect on the three types of credit distribution channel and that inflation positively and significantly affects the three types of credit distribution channel. However, the effect of inflation on the credit channel is different from the theory and the researcher’s presumption, similar to the effect of exchange rate. Exchange rate positively and significantly affects investment credit, but it does not significantly influence consumptive and working capital credit.

The analytical method used is unbalanced panel data with a time series for the 2016-2018 period and a cross-section of 34 provinces. The logarithmic regression method was used with the feasible generalized least square method. The regression analysis results show that partially MSME credit, manpower, and electrical energy have a positive and significant impact on gross regional domestic product. In addition, the independent variables (MSME credit, manpower, and electrical energy) in the model explain 0.999961 or 99% of the dependent variable (GRDP) while the rest is explained by other variables outside the model.

Abstract

The Covid-19 pandemic has disrupted the pace of Indonesia's economic growth. The policy of lowering interest rates in the context of the national economic recovery as well as slowing credit disbursement resulted in a decline in the NIM of the banking system. Therefore, banks are trying to find new sources of income other than interest income sources, namely through diversification. In addition to income diversification, operational efficiency and management of capital aspects are also very important factors that can affect bank conditions during the Covid-19 pandemic. This study aims to analyze the effect of income diversification (DIVPEN), operational efficiency (BOPO) and capital adequacy ratio (CAR) on banking profitability proxied by ROA during the Covid-19 pandemic at KBMI bank 4. Data analysis method used in this study namely panel data regression analysis with the best model results, namely FEM (Fixed Effect Model). The results show that income diversification has a positive and significant effect on ROA, BOPO has a negative and significant effect on ROA and CAR has no effect on bank profitability proxied by RPA during the Covid-19 pandemic.
