Abstract

Purpose: This study aims to determine the factors associated with abortion at Sitti Fatimah Makassar Mother and Child Hospital. Research Design and Methodology: The research employed an analytical observational approach with a cross-sectional study design. This design was used to examine the correlation or association between independent variables and the dependent variable. The study population consisted of 107 respondents, and the sampling technique used was Random Sampling, where samples were selected randomly from the population. Findings and Discussion: The analysis of 107 respondents revealed several key findings: a significant relationship was found between age and the incidence of abortion (p = 0.005); no significant relationship was found between parity and abortion (p = 0.058); a significant relationship was identified between pregnancy spacing and abortion (p = 0.000); a significant relationship was also found between nutritional status (hemoglobin levels) and abortion (p = 0.000); and a significant relationship was established between a history of previous abortions and the current incidence of abortion (p = 0.000). Implications: These findings highlight the importance of considering factors such as age, pregnancy spacing, nutritional status, and previous abortion history in the prevention and management of abortion cases at the hospital. This could inform healthcare practices and policies aimed at reducing the incidence of abortion by addressing these associated factors.

Abstract

Purpose: This study explores the relationship between environmental factors—such as clean water supply, fecal disposal, waste treatment, household waste security, and household drinking water treatment—and the incidence of typhoid fever in Barru District, South Sulawesi. The hypothesis suggests that inadequate environmental sanitation and poor water supply are major contributors to the spread of typhoid fever. Research Design and Methodology: The research utilized a cross-sectional observational design, focusing on 80 Barru Regional General Hospital patients. Respondents were selected through purposive sampling based on specific criteria. Data were gathered through direct observations, structured interviews, and hospital medical records. The Chi-Square test was used to analyze the relationships between the identified variables. Findings and Discussion: The findings indicate a significant relationship between clean water supply and household waste security with typhoid fever incidence. Respondents lacking access to clean water and proper waste management practices showed a higher risk of infection. However, no significant associations were observed between typhoid fever incidence and factors like fecal disposal, waste treatment, or household drinking water treatment. Implications: These results suggest that policy interventions aimed at improving water supply and waste management practices at the community level could effectively reduce the incidence of typhoid fever. Future research should investigate the interaction between these environmental factors and individual behaviors, extending the study to other regions for a more comprehensive understanding.

Abstract

Purpose: The study aims to determine the effectiveness of reproductive health education through Virtual Learning Media (VLM) on changes in early adolescent attitudes to prevent sexual harassment. Research Design and Methodology: The research was conducted at the Nurul Fikri Integrated Islamic Elementary School, Makassar City, using quantitative research methods with a quasi-experimental approach. The study involved 50 students from SDIT Nurul Fikri. Findings and Discussion: The results indicated no significant difference in the effectiveness of attitude change. This outcome was attributed to the short duration of the educational intervention, which needed to be increased to induce immediate changes in attitudes. Implications: The study suggests the necessity for age-appropriate and sustainable sexual education through counseling or engaging media provided by schools to ensure long-term effectiveness in changing students' attitudes.

Abstract

Purpose: This study aimed to evaluate the effects of sweet starfruit juice and honey on blood pressure in menopausal women, hypothesizing a significant reduction in both systolic and diastolic readings. Research Design and Methodology: A pre-experimental design with pre-test and post-test assessments was used, involving 40 menopausal women from Kediri City, Indonesia. Participants consumed the juice and honey combination daily for one week. Blood pressure measurements were taken before and after the intervention. The Shapiro-Wilk test assessed data normality, and the Wilcoxon non-parametric test evaluated the significance of changes. Findings and Discussion: The study found significant reductions in blood pressure, with mean systolic decreasing from 146.25 mmHg to 133.75 mmHg and mean diastolic from 95.00 mmHg to 86.25 mmHg. The results support the hypothesis that this natural intervention effectively manages hypertension, attributed to the bioactive compounds in the juice and honey that promote cardiovascular health. Implications: The findings suggest incorporating sweet starfruit juice and honey into dietary recommendations as a complementary treatment for hypertension in menopausal women. Further research is needed to explore long-term effects, broader applicability, and comparative efficacy with other treatments.

Abstract

Purpose: This study investigates the relationship between structured health education and exclusive breastfeeding (EBF) status, aiming to understand how tailored educational interventions can enhance the initiation and sustainability of EBF for the recommended six months. Research Design and Methodology: The study employs a qualitative systematic literature review (SLR) approach, analyzing peer-reviewed journal articles, conference papers, and relevant academic publications. The literature spans from 2010 to 2024, focusing on structured health education, digital health interventions, and their impact on EBF practices. Findings and Discussion: The findings indicate that structured health education, particularly when culturally sensitive and supported by digital tools such as mobile health (mHealth) applications, significantly improves EBF outcomes. The study highlights the importance of continuous support through follow-up sessions and peer groups. Additionally, it underscores the role of workplace policies and public health infrastructure in sustaining breastfeeding practices. The results align with the Health Belief Model and the Theory of Planned Behavior, demonstrating that well-structured education can effectively promote health behaviors. Implications: This research contributes to both scientific knowledge and practical application by emphasizing the integration of digital tools and supportive policies in health education. The study's originality lies in its comprehensive approach, offering valuable insights for healthcare providers and policymakers to enhance maternal and child health outcomes globally.
