Abstract

The Kampar River and Siak River play significant roles in the migration process of the Minangkabau people to the Malay Peninsula region. Historically, these rivers have served as vital routes connecting the inland areas of Sumatra with the East Coast of Sumatra Island. However, over time, the importance of these rivers has been forgotten, and the regions along the riverbanks have become underdeveloped and neglected. This article aims to shed light on the role of the Kampar and Siak Rivers as migration paths for the Minangkabau people, tracing their journey from their place of origin to various destinations along the East Coast of Sumatra and even reaching the Malay Peninsula. To achieve the objective of this article, a historical method comprising heuristics, source criticism, interpretation, and historiography is employed. The initial stage involves conducting a literature study and employing an interactive model analysis of technical data to gather relevant information. Subsequently, the gathered data undergoes source criticism, interpretation, and historiography. The Kampar River, known as a trade route since the era of the Srivijaya kingdom, is exemplified by the discovery of the Muara Takus Temple. This historical evidence confirms that the area was once prosperous and bustling. Consequently, the Minangkabau people utilized this pathway as an entry point to migrate to other regions, particularly the Malay Peninsula area.

Abstract

This article focuses on writing the biography of Rosalina Kusnohardjono and aims to reveal her life as a nun through descriptive narrative. The research employs a historical method consisting of four stages: heuristics, source criticism, interpretation, and historiography. The first stage involves searching and collecting historical sources, including primary and secondary sources such as archives, photos, and interviews with Rosalina. The second stage entails filtering and evaluating the historical sources using internal and external criticism. The third stage is the analysis and interpretation of the sources, and the fourth stage is the writing of history based on the data obtained. Rosalina Kusnohardjono, a nun from the SCMM congregation, was originally from a Buddhist background but converted to Catholicism during high school. She entered the SCMM congregation on February 19, 1969, and became a permanent member on February 11, 1979. During her 50 years as a nun, she served as a teacher, SCMM provincial, and founded 15 SCMM communities in Indonesia, including two in Timor Leste. She also established the St. Leo Padang orphanage, a place of prayer and pilgrimage called "Puri Maria Ratu Rosario dari Manaoag," mentored SCMM junior and senior sisters, and authored several books and reflections.

Abstract

This article aims to dissect Tan Malaka's educational thoughts in Indonesia, focusing on his works published during the period 1920-1926. The research employs a historical methodology, relying on secondary sources in the form of books written by Tan Malaka during his lifetime. Although Tan Malaka was primarily an educator, he was often perceived as a political figure by the general public. Starting from 1920, he published books with the intention of disseminating his ideas globally, established formal schools to educate the children of Indonesia, and sought complete independence for the Republic of Indonesia. In forming formal schools and disseminating his thoughts, Tan Malaka aspired to educate the Indonesian populace, expel the Dutch colonial rule from Indonesia, and attain full sovereignty for the Republic of Indonesia.

Abstract

This research focuses on the chronology of conflict between the people of Padang City, which resulted from the development of the Padang ByPass Road with the City Government. These two groups are at odds, causing conflicts and blockades along the Padang ByPass Road. The research method used is the historical method consisting of four stages, starting from searching and collecting sources (heuristics). In collecting sources, sources that discuss the conflict of the Padang ByPass Road were gathered both in writing and orally. Criticizing and selecting the data obtained into facts (critique). Interpreting and selecting that makes sense (interpretation). The stage of writing research results (historiography). The construction of the first Padang ByPass Road in 1990, followed by the second stage in 2015 in Padang City, caused conflict because the Padang City Government did not provide adequate compensation according to the previous agreement with the affected community. The land was not individual land, but customary land owned by the community. This made the community angry and blockaded several points along the Padang ByPass Road. Some of the ways the government took to resolve the conflict include the negotiation process between the community and the government. However, if the negotiation process does not go smoothly or as expected, it will be followed by a legal process.

Abstract

This article aims to explain the condition of religious practices in Minangkabau in the early 20th century through the works of HAMKA. This study uses a historical method approach. Literature review is conducted to obtain primary and secondary sources. From the literature study, books by Haji Abdul Malik Karim Amrullah and other related writings related to the two figures related to the research theme were obtained. HAMKA criticized the practice of tarekat that did not conform to the teachings of the Quran and Hadith, as well as the traditional social system that was not in accordance with Islamic rules, such as in the case of inheritance and communal land. He also brought a new spirit in his preaching with a focus on the spirit of Islamic struggle and unity, as well as criticism of the rigidity of tradition and the importance of education to open up people's perspectives.
