La Parole : Journal of Language Teaching and Pedagogy
The aims of this journal is to provide a venue for researchers, academicians and practitioners for publishing the original articles or review articles. The main focus of the journal is on language teaching and pedagogy work. We are particularly interested on Language and Teaching Methodologies, Pedagogical Techniques, Technology in Language Teaching, Technology in Language Teaching such as CALL and MALL and Curriculum Development and Material design. Although the focus is primarily on research on language education, we will also consider papers in other areas of applied linguistics such as Sociolinguistics, psycholinguistics, and neurolinguistics, Language and culture, cognition, and pragmatics and Theories and practice in related fields.

<![CDATA[This research was conducted to see the possibility of using artificial intelligence in the process of learning English in the English Language Study Program at the Universitas Muhammadiyah Parepare. Especially their understanding and perspective of lecturers and students on the use of artificial intelligence in the process of learning English. This study uses Descriptive Qualitative by design taking two groups of subjects namely, subject from students and lecturers. The population of this study is the Department of English Language Education, Universitas Muhammadiyah Parepare. The subject of this study consisting of 14 subjects. the 14 subjects taken from the total subject in which 10 subjects from students and 4 subjects from lecturers. The results of the study indicate that the tendency of students still lacks understanding of what Artificial Intelligence is and for the use and effects of its use students understand that it is very useful and helps them and lecturers. From their perceptions related to the use of artificial intelligence in English language learning, students do not agree on full use in the learning process. As for the lecturers' subject, all said it was very possible, but in order to fully spread it, it still could not.]]>

<![CDATA[This research based on the problem regard English especially vocabulary mastery of the students. Students are most likely could not say something because they are lack of vocabulary and then students put in their mindset if English is one of the most difficult subject in this case. Applying quantum teaching model in module to improve the vocabulary mastery is suggested to solve the problem. The objectives of the research is to find out and analyze whether or not the Applying of quantum teaching model in module improve or not the students vocabulary mastery of the tenth grade students of SMK Negeri 3 SIDRAP. The researcher applied quasi-experimental design. The sample of the research was 38 students from two classes which taken from the population of the tenth grade students of SMK Negeri 3 SIDRAP. The researcher gave treatment based on the material that already formulated into some module and the test of the research was vocabulary test. The resulting of the data analysis shows that t-test value in post-test was 2.081 and the t-table value 2.028. Therefore, the students who taught trough Quantum Teaching Model in Module were better than the students who taught Contextual Learning Model.]]>

<![CDATA[This research based on the students’ problem related to English teaching especially in students’ writing ability. It was caused by the teaching media of the teacher in classroom was not interesting for students. It was also caused by several factors such as the students still take a lot of time to write because they do not know what they will written on their paper. In addition, writing is difficult lesson because in writing, we not only share our ideas from our mind but also we have to choose and combine the vocabulary well to make a writing that is meaningful. And one of the writing texts that have to be learnt in SMP is narrative text. Therefore, the objective of the research was to find out whether there is an improvement students’ narrative writing ability after being taught through animation film. This research applied quasi-experimental design with two groups namely experimental and control class. The population of this research was the eighth grade students of SMP Negeri 5 Pinrang academic year 2017/2018. The sample of this research consisted of 28 students from two classes taken from the population of the eighth grade students of SMP Negeri 5 Pinrang by using purposive sampling technique. The result of the data analysis showed that the students’ narrative writing ability improved. It showed by mean score of pre-test was 41.00 and post-test was 72.21. it showed that the writing ability of the eighth grade student of SMP Negeri 5 Pinrang improved by using animation film. After analyzing the data by using SPSS version 20, the result of probability value in post-test was 0.00 and significance value was 0.05. It means that that the probability value (0.00) was lower than significance value (0.05). Those indicated that H 0 was rejected and H1 was accepted. It means that the eight grade students of SMP Negeri 5 Pinrang for experimental class was significantly different. In conclusion, teaching writing by using animation film was effective to improve the eighth grade students of SMP Negeri 5 Pinrang of academic year 2017/2018.]]>

<![CDATA[The objective of this research was to find out whether or not the use of diary writing strategy was able to improve the Writing ability at The Tenth Year Students of SMK Negeri 2 Parepare. This research used a quasi-experimental method with two classes as sample. The researcher taught the students by Using Diary Writing Strategy. The population of this research was the tenth year students at SMK Negeri 2 Parepare in academic year 2017/2018. The sample of the research consisted of 26 students from two classes taken from the population by using cluster random sampling. The results of data analysis showed that students' writing ability improved. It was shown by the mean score of pre-test that is 50.27 and post-test 75.73. It showed that the writing ability at the tenth year students of SMK Negeri 2 Parepare improved by using diary writing strategy. After analyzing the data by using SPSS version 21, the result of the probability value on the post-test was 0.002 and the significance value was 0.05. The data indicated that H0was rejected and H1 was accepted. It means that the writing ability at the tenth year students of SMK Negeri 2 Parepare before and after treatment was significantly different. In conclusion, teaching writing by using diary writing strategy was effective to improve the writing ability of eleventh grade students of SMK Negeri 2 Parepare in academic year 2017/2018.]]>

<![CDATA[Reading comprehension is one of English aspect that is not easy to be learned. When doing observation at SMP Negeri 12 Parepare, the researcher found that the students’ reading comprehension was low. It was caused by the unsatisfied of the teacher’s technique in teaching learning process. The researcher has suggested a technique namely guessing game to solve the problems. Then, the objective of this research is to find out whether or not the use of guessing game able to improve the students' reading comprehension. The researcher applied quasi-experimental method, with two group pre- test and post- test design. The samples in this research consisted of 40 students from two classes. The first is experimental class handled through guessing game and the second is control class handled through think pair share. It is taken from the population of the eight grade students of SMP Negeri 12 Parepare. The researcher used cluster random sampling technique. The result of the data analysis shows that the students’ reading comprehension improved significantly. It was showed that the mean score of pre-test was 46.66 and post-test was 72.33. It proves that the use of contextual guessing technique can improve the reading comprehension of the eight grade students of SMP Negeri 12 Parepare. After analyzing the data by using SPSS ver. 21.0, the result of t-test value was 2.394. In this case, t-test value was (2394) was higher than t-teble value (2040). It means that H0 is rejected and H1 is accepted.]]>

<![CDATA[The result research of students in grade VII.4 of SMP Negeri 3 Parepare showed that student learning outcomes were still relatively low, namely that the learning completeness score only reached, which had not achieved DEPDIKNAS 2015 standards of 75. This research used quasi-experimental design with two groups namely pre-test and post-test. The population of this research was the seventh grade students of SMP Negeri 3 Parepare of gazal semeste in academic year 2017/2018 with sample taking technique which was clustering random sampling consisting of 58 students from two classes taken from the seventh grade population, where class VII.4 is an experimental class and VII.5 as a control class. The results showed that the learning process using guided inquiry method could improve students' writing ability, based on the results of the research in Chapter IV it was known that the average score of learning outcomes before applying guided inquiry method or giving a pre-test was 60.00 from the DEPDIKNAS 2015 standard score with the learning outcomes category in the low category. After applying the guided inquiry method, the researcher obtained the results of the average score of students in the post-test was 79.82. Based on data analysis through the test formula shows the final t-test (6.39) was higher than the value of t-table (2.000). This showed that H0 is rejected and H1 is accepted, students who are taught to use guided inquiry methods are more effective than guided discovery methods.]]>

<![CDATA[Vocabulary is one of the language components that should be mastered by student from the elementary school up to university. If the students do not recognize the meaning of the words they will be unable to participate in conversation. Therefore, the students firstly should master a large number of vocabularies, without having this, the students cannot express their ideas clearly and effectively. Those become some of the considerations of the researcher to conduct this research when doing an observation at SMP Negeri 13 Parepare since the students show very poor achievement in vocabulary mastery. In this case, the researcher initiatives to solve the lack of students’ vocabulary mastery by implement one of innovative learning technique that is fan-n-pick tecknique. Then, the objective of the research is to find out whether or not fan-n-pick can improve vocabulary mastery of the eight year students of SMP Negeri 13 Parepare. significantly. The researcher applied quasi-experimental method, with two group pre-test and post-test design. The test form was vocabulary test that related to the procedure text which multiple choice test consists of 10 numbers, translate word into Indonesia consists of 10 numbers and fill the blank test consists of 5 numbers. The samples were chosen by using random sampling technique which consisted of 15 students from two classes taken from the population of the eight year students of SMP Negeri 13 Parepare. The total number of population was 15 students. The result of the data analysis shows that the students’ vocabulary mastery improved significantly. It showed by the mean score in experimental class of pre-test was 14.4 and the post-test was 33.7. It shows that the implementation of fan-n-pick technique can improve the vocabulary mastery of the eight year students of SMP Negeri 13 Parepare significantly. Besides the different score of pre-test and post-test, the mean score of the students in post-test was 0.00 is higher than the PERMENDIKBUD (75) in SMP Negeri 13 Parepare. After analyzing the data by using the t-test formula, the result of t-test value in post-test was 0.05 and t-table value was 0.00. It means that t-test value (0.00) was higher than t-table value (0.05). Those indicate that H1 was accepted and H0 was rejected and the students who were taught through fan-n-pick technique are better than the students who were taught through showdown technique.]]>

<![CDATA[The major problems of this research were how to enhance the students’ speaking ability. Then how to make the students interest to speak in English so this research conducted to find out whether Using ”Snakes and Ladders’’ language game through Buzz Group to Improve Speaking Ability of the First Grade students of SMAN 2 Pinrang. A Mix method was carried out by researcher in this research. The population was the first grade students of SMA Negeri 2 Pinrang. X.exact.1 and X.exact.5 were taken as sample which consists of 31 students for each class X.exact.1 was chosen as the experimental group, while X.exact.5 was chosen as control group. The instruments that used in collecting the data were interview test and questionnaire. The procedure in collecting data were divided into 3 stages namely pre-test, treatment, and post-test. The data obtained through the test were analyzed quantitatively and qualitatively. The result of the research shows the students’ speaking ability of the experimental was better than the control group. It was proved by the data of the students’ mean score on experimental class was higher tha the control group (78.67 ˃ 60.22). Futhermore, Using ”Snakes and Ladders’’ language game through Buzz Group to Improve Speaking Ability of the First Grade students of SMAN 2 Pinrang Besides, the research finding also shows the students interest toward the implementing of this simulation. It was proved by the data from questionnaire that the students’ interest was which categorized as strongly agree.]]>

<![CDATA[The researcher conveyed that this aims to test students' understanding of writing narrative text. The author uses a quasi-experimental method and applies a non-equivalent control group design. The method used is cluster random sampling. The instrument used in this study was a narrative text consisting of two kinds of tests, namely pre-test and post-test. The results showed that the posttest results of the experimental group students were higher than those of the control group students. This is evidenced by the posttest mean score of the experimental group (77.85) which is higher than the control group (51.65). This is also evidenced by the t-test value (3.58) which is greater than the t-table value (2.042). Thus it can be concluded that the application of TTW can improve students' narrative writing skills. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk menguji pemahaman siswa tentang menulis narrative teks. Penulis menggunakan metode eksperimen semu dan menerapkan desain kelompok kontrol non ekuivalen. Metode yang digunakan adalah cluster random sampling. Instrumen yang digunakan dalam penelitian ini adalah teks naratif yang terdiri dari dua macam tes yaitu pre-test dan post-test. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa hasil posttest siswa kelompok eksperimen lebih tinggi daripada posttest siswa kelompok kontrol. Hal ini dibuktikan dengan nilai rata-rata posttest kelompok eksperimen (77,85) lebih tinggi dibandingkan kelompok kontrol (51,65). Hal tersebut juga dibuktikan dengan nilai t-test (3,58) yang lebih besar dari nilai t-tabel (2,042). Dengan demikian dapat disimpulkan bahwa penerapan TTW dapat meningkatkan kemampuan menulis naratif siswa.]]>
