Abstract

Portfolio selection problem was first formulated in a paper written by Markowitz, where investment diversification can be translated into computing. Mean-variance model he introduced has been used and developed because of it’s limitations in the larger constraints found in the real world, as well as it’scomputational complexity which found when it used in large-scale portfolio. Quadratic programming model complexity given by Markowitz has been overcome with the development of the algorithm research. Theyintroduce a linear risk function which solve the portfolio selection problem with real constraints, i.e. minimum transaction lots. With the Mixed Integer Linear models, proposed a new heuristic algorithm that starts from the solution of the relaxation problems which allow finding close-to-optimal solutions. This algorithm is built on Mixed Integer Linear Programming (MILP) which formulated using nearest integer search method.

Abstract

Sediment concentration affected b streamflow at river body. This research was conducted to study correlation between streamflow and sediment concentration at upstream and downstream Padang watershed on July until December 2013. The research was conducted by using survey method at two outlet of Padang watershed were Padang sub watershed and Padang Hilir sub watershed. Sampling of water at two (2) outlets were conducted at stream surface by using depth intergrating suspended sediment sampler technique at three (3) points of river body. Sampling waters conducted at two times that were after rainand no rain. Sediment concentration (Cs) calculated by Cs = (G2 – G1) / V equation. Streamflow (Q) calculated by multiplying velocity and wide of river by Q = A x V equation. The results showed that no correlation between streamflow and sediment concentration at upstream when no rain (Cs = 0,0007 +0,0412 Q; R2 = 0,43) and at downstream when no rain (Cs = 0,0002 Q + 0,07157; R2 = 0,057). There were correlation between streamflow and sediment concentration at upstream after rain (Cs = 0,00041 Q +0,0611; R2 = 0,88) and at downstream after rain (Cs = 0,00015 Q + 0,03293; R2 = 0,9).

Abstract

The aim of this research is to study in-situ transesterification technique of jatropha seeds for biodiesel production. This research was conducted using a randomized factorial block design consisting of two factors that is moisture content of jatropha seeds (2% and 3%) and amount of hexane that used as a co-solvent (0 ml, 75 ml, 95 ml, 115 ml and 135 ml). The experimental result shows that the highest yieldbiodiesel of 78.72 % obtained at process condition of jatropha seeds moisture content of 2% and amount of hexane of 115 mL. The physico-chemical analysis of biodiesel procured the acid number of 0.35 mg KOH/g, density of 0.89 g/mL and viscosity of 3.04 mm2/ s that meet requirement of Indonesian Nasional StandardNo. 04-7182-2006.

Abstract

The area of coverage of waste management services in some areas sometimes only focus on specific areas such as the capital province, district or city. Some areas of the region (district) still do not get special attention for waste management facilities services from local City Sanitation Department. In this study we raised two villages located on the banks of the Kampar River and examined the management of non-organic domestic waste in this area. We choose Pulau Birandang Village and Alai Village because of the habit this people to throw garbage like non-organic waste (such as paper, plastics, etc) to the Kampar river. This act is very dangerous for the sustainability of water security and can cause silting rivers. The aims of this research to analyze the influence of commercial approach as a solution to solve waste problem in both villages. Commercial approach is the method applied by giving incentives to people who are sort the non-organic waste according to its kind. Data for this study were collected from observation using 80 questionnaires to 80 respondents from both villages, the Pulau Birandang village and Alai village. Results of the analysis is also reinforced by opinión from the leaders of them (people) who are likely to reflect the wishes of the people too. The results from this study is the commercial approach (take and give system) which applied in this villages could increase people's enthusiasm in managing domestic waste by sorting waste before it is collected.

Abstract

Plagiarism is a very despicable act in the academic world that requires an active effort from Universities to prevent and to identify it at an early stage in order to maintain the reputation of the university. One easy way to quickly identify plagiarism is by the university proactively conducting a deep examination of papers written by members of their academic community before it is published. Nowadays, there are several anti-plagiarism software that can assist to quickly conduct these plagiarism examinations. However, because of these many choices of antiplagiarism software, even freely available software, sometime it is hard to choose the most suitable software to use. This paper report on the result from a study that compare several freely available anti-plagiarism software with the hope it can help universities on deciding which one to use. This study chose the top six highest ranked software that were produced from several search engine with the keyword "free anti plagiarism software", whichare: Plagiarisma.Net, Viper, The Plagiarism Checker, Dupli Checker, Plag Tracker and Small Seo Tools Plagiarism Checker. The study employed several important parameters in comparing these anti-plagiarism software, which are: accuracy, validation time, the diversity of format text, number of characters/words, ease of use, report, and security. Results from the study indicate that there is no one anti-plagiarism software that can meet all user needs, thus there is no one superior software for all categories but there are software that are superior for certain categories.

Abstract

A highly antibacterial of hollow fiber polyethersulfone (PES) membrane was prepared by loading silver nanoparticles within the PES graft acrylamide (AAm)-membrane. The grafted layers of AAm were provided the matrix for silver nanoparticles (AgNPs) entrapment. The characterization of the prepared hollowfiber (HF) PES membrane loaded with silver nanoparticles were examined by using transmission electron microscopy (TEM). To examine the antibacterial property of the prepared AgNPs-AAm-PES membrane, the halo zone and the shaking flask test were carried out. In these tests, both of unmodified PES membrane and AgNPs-AAm-PES membrane were exposed to pure culture suspension of Escherichia coli (E. Coli) bacteria with the concentration of 107 CFU/ml. The viable bacteria formed within the membrane surfaces and themembrane circumferences were observed by the halo zone formation, while the percentage of bacteria killing ratio was determined by shaking flask test method. The TEM results showed that the silver nanoparticles were formed within grafted layers of AAm-PES membrane and the size of silver nanoparticleswere about 10 nm. The AgNPs-AAm-PES membrane were highly effective to prevent the membrane biofouling as shown by the clearly halo zone formation compared with the unmodified PES membrane. The shake flask test were also revealed that almost 99.9 percent of the E. coli bacteria were killed when theyhaving exposed to the AgNPs-AAm-PES membrane. This was due to the silver ions are allowed to release from its membrane surface

Abstract

Mathematical models are now a popular tool in many applications such as physics, economics and engineering; and provide useful information for decision making and planning. Water pollution in Malaysia has reached a level that needs attention and intervention from environmental department and government. In order to make a strong case, this paper has done a study on measuring the pollution level of Sungai Pinang which is located in Penang Island, Malaysia. Advection-Dispersion equation is one of the mathematical models that often use in evaluating the level of water pollution in the river. This paper applies this model and compares the result of this study with the studies done in the previous research worldwide to evaluate the severity of the pollution. The authors hope that this paper will create awareness to relevant department and also to community in general

Abstract

Many applications are developed and deployed in Syiah Kuala University main server. These applications and information system are built as tools to help the University’ daily activities. Most of these applications have its own database. As a result, data is inconsistent, and the worst is redundant data cannot be avoided. The idea behind of this research is to build one centralized data that can be used as baseline to other applications. Since the main data of Syiah Kuala University are located behind the proxy which is no internet direct access allowed to the data. The proposed method to answer this problem is touse web service as a gateway for data transfer. This technique keeps the database from direct external access but the data itself can be seen without knowing where the real data is. This method has been used for Online Exit-Survey to proof that the system can verify the students’ data. Some student cannot be identified because their data were empty, the other because the data in centralized database server were only prepared for undergraduate students, so that the post graduate and professional students cannot be verified. For undergraduate students this online exit-survey works fine without error on verification phase
