Abstract

The objectives of this research are: (1) to improve the conceptual mastery of the students in Grade X of State Vocational High School 5 Surakarta in Mechanical Technology subject matter through the implementation of PAKEM approach; and (2) to improve the skills of the students in Grade X of State Vocational High School 5 Surakarta in Mechanical Technology subject matter through the implementation of PAKEM approach. This research used the classroom action research with two cycles and with spiral phases as claimed by Hopkins (1985). Each cycle consisted of planning, implementation, observation, and reflection. The subjects of research were the students as many as 31 in Grade X TM D of State Vocational High School 5 of Surakarta. The data sources of research were a teacher and students. The data of research were collected through observation, documentation, and in-depth interview. The data of research were validated by using the content validity, and the items of questions and observation sheets were validated by expert judgment. They were analyzed by using the descriptive comparative model of analysis in the form of percentage. The results of research are as follows: 1) The implementation of PAKEM approach can improve the students? conceptual mastery in Mechanical Technology subject matter. Prior to the treatment, the average score of the conceptual mastery 59. Following the treatment, it becomes 77.74 in cycle I and 85.32 in cycle II respectively. 2) The implementation of PAKEM approach can improve students? skills in Mechanical Technology subject matter. Prior to the treatment, the percentage of their conceptual mastery is 51.92%. Following the treatment, it becomes 56.96% in cycle I and 80.19% in cycle II respectively. The indicators of their skills include speaking, listening, creativity, and competency. Thus, the application of PAKEM approach (active, creative, effective, and exciting learning) can improve the conceptual mastery Mechanical Technology subject matter of the students in Grade X of State Vocational High School 5 Surakarta in Academic Year 2014/2015.

Abstract

The objective of this research is to improve the learning result in the Cooling System subject matter of the students in Grade XI of Light Vehicle Engineering of Murni Vocational High School 1 of Surakarta in Academic Year 2014/2015 through the integration of the animation learning model and the display learning model. This research used the classroom action research with two cycles. Each cycle consisted of four phases, namely: planning, implementation, observation, and reflection. The subjects of research were the students as many as 33 in Grade XI of Light Vehicle Engineering Department of the aforementioned school. The data of research were obtained from primary and secondary ones. The former were the learning result in the Cooling System subject matter and the latter were lesson plans, syllabus, and documents. The data of research were colloected through test and observation on the teaching and learning activity process. They were validated by using triangulations and descriptively analyzed by using the percentage technique so as to see the improvement the learning result that occured in the teaching and learning activities. The result of research shows that the prior to the treatment, the number of students who completed the minimum learning completeness criterion in the Cooling System subject matter is 15 (45%) out of 33. Following the treatment with the integration of the animation learning model and the display learning model, it becomes 18 (55%) and 27 (82%) respectively. The integration of the animation learning model and the display learning model gives a significant contribution to the learning result in the Cooling System subject matter. The implementation of the two integrated learning models makes the learning process active, effective, efficient, and exciting so that it supports a quality teaching and learning. Thus the integration between the animation learning model and the display learning model can improve the learning result in the Cooling System subject matter of the students in Grade XI of Light Vehicle Engineering of Murni Vocational High School 1 of Surakarta in Academic Year 2014/2015. .

Abstract

The purpose of this study was to determine: (1) The effect of adding bentonite to the permeability of the vulcanic ash. (2) The effect of adding bentonite to the compressive strength of the vulcanic ash. The reseach was conducted at Manufactur Polyteknik, Ceper, Klaten. The reseach method is experimen method. The indipendent variable in this study is the variation of  bentonite with levels of 0%, 5%, 4%, 8%, and 12% and the dependent variable is the permeability and compressive strength. The results of this  study were: (1) The addition of bentonite in the molding sand decreased the permeability. (2) The addition of bentonite comes increased compressive strength. (3) Variations bentonite with levels of 0%, 4%, 8% and 12% for successive bentonite 14,07; 13,50; 13,37; dan 10,37 cm3/minute, while for compressive strength of successive contributed 51,33; 57,90; 64,27, and 72,73 KN/m2. The smallest permeability occurs at levels of 12% bentonite  is 10,37 cm3/menit  and compressive strength variation in the levels of 0% is 51,33 KN/m2, While most the permeability occurred at 0% bentonite are 14,07 cm3/menit and compressive strength in the bentonite levels 12% ie 72,73 KN/m2.

Abstract

The objective of this research is to improve the conceptual understanding in the Brake System Repairing subject matter of the students in Grade X of the Light Vehicle Engineering Program of State Vocational High School 1 of Sawit, Boyolali. This Research used the Pictorial Riddle learning model are riddles presented to the class in picture or diagram form, depicting some novel or discrepant event. The validity of instrument was tested by using the content validity technique with the expert judgment and the application of Item and Test Analysis (Iteman 3.00). The instrument was exposed to the control class. The data of research used the descriptive comparative model of analysis. This research used classroom action research with two cycles. Each cycle consisted of four phases, namely: planning, implementation, observation, and reflection. The result of reflection in the former cycle was made as a plan for the following cycle. The subjects of this research were the students as many as 30 in Grade X of Light Vehicle Engineering Program 3 of State Vocational High School 1 of Sawit, Boyolali in academic year 2014/2015. The result of research shows that the Pictorial Riddle learning model can improve the conceptual understanding in the Brake System Repairing subject matter as indicated by the result of evaluation test. The comparison between the students? average score of conceptual understanding in the pre-treatment and that of conceptual understanding in Cycle I shows that it improves from 59.67 to 76.55. The students? conceptual understandings from the pre-treatment to Cycle I and from Cycle I to Cycle II improve as much as 16.88% and 11.55% respectively with the class average score of 88.1. Thus, the application of the Pictorial Riddle  inquiry learning model of can improve the conceptual understanding in the Brake System Repairing subject matter of the students in Grade X of Light Vehicle Engineering Program of State Vocational High School 1 of Sawit, Boyolali in academic year 2014/2015.

Abstract

The objectives of this research are to find: (1) the correlation between innovative attitude in Productive Subject Matter and lathe practice skill of the students in Grade XI of Mechanical Expertise Program of State Vocational High School 2 of Surakarta; (2) the correlation between cognitive strategy in Productive Subject Matter and lathe practice skill of the students in Grade XI of Mechanical Expertise Program of State Vocational High School 2 of Surakarta; and (3) the simultaneous correlation of innovative attitude and cognitive strategy in Productive Subject Matter to lathe practice skill of the students in Grade XI of Mechanical Expertise Program of State Vocational High School 2 of Surakarta. This research used the correlational method. Its population was all of the students as many as 127 in Grade XI of Mechanical Expertise Program of the aforementioned school. The samples of research were taken by using the simple random sampling technique and consisted of 92 students. The variables of research consisted of two independent variables i.e. innovative attitude and cognitive strategy and one dependent variable i.e. lathe practicum skill. The data of research were collected through questionnaire and documentation. The former was used to collect the data of innovative attitude and cognitive strategy, and the latter was used to collect the data of lathe practicum skill. Prior to its use, the questionnaire was tried out to 35 students. The data were validated by using the product moment formula, and their reliability was tested by using the Cronbach?s Alpha formula. Both the validity and reliability tests were aided with the program of SPSS Version 17.0. The data were analyzed by using the partial correlation analysis and the multiple linear regression analysis. Prior to the analyses, the data were exposed to pre-requisite tests of normality test, linearity test, and multicollinearity test. The results of research are as follows: (1) there is a positive and significant correlation between the innovative attitude and the lathe practice skill of the students in Grade XI of Mechanical Expertise Program of State Vocational High School 2 of Surakarta as indicated by the value of (rcount = 0.235 > that of r table = 0.207 at the significance level of 5%), meaning that the proposed hypothesis is verified; (2) there is a positive and significant correlation between the cognitive strategy and the lathe practice skill of the students in Grade XI of Mechanical Expertise Program of State Vocational High School 2 of Surakarta as indicated by the value of (rcount = 0.208 > that of rtable = 0.207 at the significance level of 5%), indicating that the proposed hypothesis is verified; and (3) there is a simultaneously positive and significant correlation of the innovative attitude and the cognitive strategy to the lathe practice skill of the students in Grade XI of Mechanical Expertise Program of State Vocational High School 2 of Surakarta as indicated by the value of (rcount = 0.235 > rtable = 0.207 at the significance level of 5%), meaning that the proposed hypothesis is verified  as indicated by the value of (Ry12 = 0.256 with the value of Fcount =3.112 > that of Ftable = 1.433 at the significance level of 5%), meaning that the proposed hypothesis is verified. The effective contribution of the innovative attitude variable to the lathe practicum skill is 5.58%, whereas that of the cognitive strategy variable to the lathe practice skill is 4.92%, meaning that the two variables have effective contributions to the lathe practicum skill as much as 10.8%, whereas the other factors, which are not explained in this research contribute to it as much as 89.2%. The correlational model of X1 and X2 to Y is Y = 87,762 + 0,252 X1 +0,237 X2. This model is statistically significant.

Abstract

The objective of this research is to improve learning result and creativity of student learning in the subject matter of Pemeliharaan Mesin Kendaraan Ringan of the students in grade XI TO A of State Vocational High School 5 of Surakarta through the application of the Problem Based Learning (PBL) model. This research is a classroom action research (CAR). The results show that through the application of the model Problem Based Learning (PBL) can improve learning result and student learning creativity of pre-cycle to cycle I and II. The learning process in the pre-cycle using the conventional model so that the students learning result and creativity lower. The increase occurred in the first cycle a value of students who achieve mastery in the pre-cycle as much as 56.25% increase to 71.88%. Furthermore, on the second cycle increased to 84.38%. For the creativity of students in the observation sheet increased from pre-cycle by 31.25% to 49.48% and the second cycle increased to 70.96%.The co nclusions of this research is the application of the Problem Based Learning (PBL) can improve learning results and creativity of the students in grade XI TO A of State Vocational High School 5 of Surakarta.

Abstract

The objective of this research is to improve the thinking creativity and the learning result of the students in Grade X of State Vocational High School 2 of Surakarta in the subject matter of Technical Mechanics II through the use of the Cooperative Learning Model of the Think Pair Share type.This research used the classroom action research with three cycles. Each cycle included planning, implementation, observation, and reflection. The subjects of research were the students as many as 32 in Grade X of TPM B of State Vocational High School 2 of Surakarta. The data sources of research were a teacher and students. The data of research were collected through in-depth interview, observation, documentation, and test.Validated by using the construct one. The item analysis used the computer program of Iteman 3.00. The data were analyzed by using the descriptive comparative model of analysis in the forms of percentage and mean ideal.The results of this research show that the application of the Cooperative Learning Model of the Think Pair Share type can improve the students? thinking creativity. Prior to the treatment, the percentage of the students? thinking creativity is 30.41%. Following the treatment, it becomes 54.63% in Cycle I and 80.52% in Cycle II respectively. The indicators of thinking creativity include fluency, flexibility, elaboration, sensitivity, originality, novelty, and use of new approach use. The application of the cooperative learning model of the think pair share can improve the students? learning result. Prior to the treatment, the percentage of the students? learning result is 71.87%. Following the treatment, it becomes 81.25% in Cycle I and 87.50% in Cycle II respectively. Prior to the treatment, the learning result score average is 74.60. Following the treatment, it becomes 76.75 in Cycle I and 81.05 in Cycle II respectively. Thus, the application of the Cooperative Learning Model of the Think Pair Share type can improve the thinking creativity and the learning result in learning the subject matter of Technical Mechanics II of the students in Grade X of State Vocational High School 2 of Surakarta in Academic Year 2014/2015.

Abstract

This research aims at knowing the correlation between the students? achievements and interest to continue the study in post graduate program, the correlation between family?s economic conditions and the students? interest to continue the study in post graduate program, and the correlation between students? achievements and the family?s economic conditions in interest to continue the study in post graduate program for students of Mechanical Engineering eigth  semester 2012/2013 academic year. This research was conducted at the campus V FKIP UNS Pabelan, the researcher used quantitative descriptive method. The population of this research was students of mechanical engineering department eight semester 2012/2013 academic year, they were 56 students. The samples was taken by using a random sampling technique that involving 48 students. The instruments used in this study were the distribution questionnaires. The test of instrument validation applied a product moment formula and a construct validity formula. The test of instrument reliability applied an Alpha Cronbach formula. Test requirements analysis covered test of normality, linearity and multicollinearity. Data analysis techniques used analysis of product moment correlation, partial correlation and multiple regression tests. The results of the analysis show that: (1) there is a positive relation between students? achievement results and the students? interest for continuing the study at post graduate program (ry1 of 0,392 > rt amount 0,284 at a significance level of 5%). (2) There is a negative relation between the economic conditions of families with the interest for continuing the study in post graduate program (ry2 of -0,232 < 0 < rt of 0,284 at a significance level of 5%). Coefficient of determinant is 0,296. The results show that both students? achievement results and the economic conditions of families give significant contribution to the interest for continuing the study in post graduate program although the values are different.

Abstract

The objective of this research is to improve skill and conceptual understanding on programing CNC TU-3A for twelfth grade level in SMK N 5 Surakarta by implementation of the drill learning method with CutViewer Software based. This research was belong to classroom action research. This research was implemented in two cycles, each cycle was composed of four stages, there was planning stage, action stage, observation and reflection. Every cycle is carried out in two meetings. The subjects of this research were twelfth grade level in SMK N 5 Surakarta. The data were collected from teacher and students. The techniques of data collection were observation, interview, and learning achievement test. The method of data validity were Expert Judgement and Construct validity. The resulting data were analyzed as quantitative descriptive and comparative descriptive. The result of this research showed that the implementation of the Drill learning method of CutViewer Software could improved skill and conceptual understanding of student on CNC TU-3A programing. At initial condition, the skill of the student was 45,31%, meanwhile the conceptual understanding of students was 35,23%, and the average score of learning result was 64,58. After the action of the first cycle, student?s skills increased to 73,44% and the conceptual understanding become 70,17% with the average score of learning result was 84,67. At the action of the second cycle, skill of students become 88,75% and the conceptual understanding increased to 89,77%, and the final average score of learning result was 92,52. The conclusion of this research is the implementation of the Drill learning method of CutViewer Software based could increase the skill and conceptual understanding of students on CNC lesson especially on CNC TU-3A programming.

Abstract

The objectives of this research are to investigate: (1) the effect of enquiring minds learning model application on the learning result of low ability group of experimental class and that of control class; (2) the effect of enquiring minds learning model application on the learning result of high ability group of experimental class and that of control class; (3) the effect of enquiring minds learning model application on the learning result of experimental class and that of control class; (4) the effect of enquiring minds learning model application on the learning result of experimental class; and (5) the effect of enquiring minds learning model application on the learning result of control class. This research used the quasi experimental research method with the pretest-posttest and control group design. The samples of research consisted of 2 classes i.e. experimental class and control class and were taken by using the cluster random sampling. The results of this research shaw: (1) there is a significant difference between the post-test scores of low ability group of experimental class and those of control class that showed by t = 8,901 > 1,690 withp-value= 0,000 < 0,05 ; (2) there is a significant difference between the post-test scores of high ability group of experimental class and those of control class that showed by t = 6,944 > 1,690 with p-value= 0,000 < 0,05 ; (3) there is a significant difference between the post-test scores of experimental class and those of control class that showed by t = 5,822 > 1,666 with p-value= 0,000 < 0,05 ; (4) there is a significant difference between the pre-test scores of experimental class and their post-test scores that showed by t = -7,214 >1,666p-value= 0,000 < 0,05  ; (5) there is a significant difference between the pre-test scores of control class and their post-test scores that showed by t = -4,777 >1,666 with p-value= 0,000 < 0,05. The enquiring minds learning model has a positive effect on the result of automotive motor learning of the students in Grade XI of Light Vehicle Engineering Program of State Vocational High School 5 of Surakarta in Academic Year 2013/2014.
