Abstract

The manufacturing process of agricultural produce into food stuffs is interesting to be known. In fact many of agricultural  crops become more economics after heaving additional process. One of the manufacturing process is slicing. The aim of this research was to test the distance of pulley diameter, conducted in Februari 2012  to March 2012 at the Laboratory of Agricultural Engineering, Faculty of Agriculture, North Sumatera University, Medan, by literature study, experiment, observation, and testing of the equipment. The parameters observed were effective capacity, percentage of material left on the equipment, percentage of material which is not grated. The results of the research showed that the pulley diameter had highly significant effect on capacity, percentage of material which is not grated and percentage of material left on the equipment. The best pulley diameter was 8 inch

Abstract

This study is on a test of the type of blade ofl fruit picker tool. This study was conducted to test the type ofblade of fruit picker tool using tamarind , melinjo, and  rambutan trees to determine the effective capacity, field capacity, percentage of defects of the tool and the level of operator fatigue. The research was conductedin Tridharma,  A. H. Nasution and Bunga Mawar Roads from February to August 2012 with tworeamentsnamely blade and fruit. Blade disc, blade star, blade rotary and rambutan, melinjo and tamarind. The results showed that various type of blade had highly significant effect the field capacity and thepercentage of damaged fruit but had no significant effects on the the effective capacity of the tool. Fruit  typehad significant effect on the  field capacity. The best type of blade of was disc blade with 16.91 kg h and percentage of 4.90% the smallest percentage of fruit damage found in melinjo with disc blade that is equa1,5%.-1

Abstract

Water balance model is stacked to predict soil moisture storage in pine forest. The balance is the appropriate between  the coming rainfall and the going water from pine forest. Water balance model consists of rainfall, throughfall, stemflow, interception, actual evapotranspiration, and run off. The results of research showed that daily rainfall was 16,326 mm/day and annual rainfall was 2309 mm/year. Actual evapotranspiration was 2,546 mm/day. Soil moisture storage found during 4 months the research was 385,450 mm, therefore it can be concluded that the research region was suitable for growing of pine forest.

Abstract

Food corps information system in Batu Bara Regency are still stored in books and/or files that are very limited in effectiveness. Computerized information delivery methods and internet networks are solutions that are worth to try to overcome the problems of information flow. Study was designed to produce systems that can help process the delivering, storing, and monitoring of data displayed in a web form. The systems were designed in a user oriented programming language PHP, and MySQL database web Apache webserver. This system could improve efficiency and effectiveness of information flow, especially food corps information. The results showed that the distribution and types of food corps commodities in each district in Batu Bara Regency was different. The spread and the kind depend on topographic, the price level and market demand in the area.

Abstract

Palm oil mill solid waste resulting from CPO production process is channeled into pond waste (Cooling Fond I). It is usually thrown to the ground so that it can contaminate the environment because it still contains waste oil. This study was aim to utilize the oil palm waste as briquettes. Briquettes is one of the alternative to replace oil. Research was done by completely randomized factorial design with 2 factors i.e : material fineness (20, 30, and 40 mesh) and adhesive  concentration (20, 30, and 40%). Parameters observed were calorific value,  heating time, oil volume, and sootness. The results showed that the material fineness had a highly significant effect on the caloric value, heating time, sootness and had no effect on the volume of oil. Adhesive concentration had a highly significant effect on the calorific value, heating time and had no effect on the volume of oil and sootness. The best treatment combination was K2P1 (thirty mesh material fineness and twenty percent adhesive concentration) with equipment caloric value of 18973,81 kal/gr, 56,57 minute heating time, and 2,25 gr sootness.

Abstract

The manufacturing process of agricultural crops into a foodstuff is an interesting thing to be known. It appeared that many agricultural crops that have been processed further become more economics value than before. One of the fabricated processes is slicing. The aim of this research was to design, build, and test the fabricated banana slicer, conducted in November 2011 to April 2012 at the Laboratory of Agriculture Engineering, Faculty of Agriculture, University of Sumatera Utara, Medan, by literature study, experiment, observation, and testing of the equipment. The parameters observed were effective capacity and percentage of unsliced material. The result of the research showed that the effective capacity of the equipment was 24,25 kg/hr with 16,67% unsliced materials.

Abstract

The aim of this research was to know the infiltration rate and matrix potential in some land uses; i.e. field, rubber field, and bush at Desa Tanjung Putus Kecamatan Padang Tualang Kabupaten Langkat using Philips equation model. Parameters that perceived were moisture content, soil texture, bulk density, particle density, porosity, and organic matter. This research used double ring infiltrometer and observed for 240 minutes. The results showed that the biggest infiltration rate was found in rubber field , and bush ; the smallest was found in field . The matrix potential in that lands were become smaller by the increasing of soil moisture.

Abstract

This research is about fruit picker tool on different type of fruit trees. This research was conducted to test the fruit picker tool on various type of fruit trees i.e melinjo, tamarind and rambutan to determine the effective capacity of the tool, the percentage of defects and field capacity of the tool. The research was conducted in Tridharma, A. H. Nasution and Bunga Mawar Roads from February to August 2012 using non-factorial completely randomized design with melinjo, tamarind and rambutan trees. The parameters measured were the effective capacity of the tool, the percentage of defect and tool field capacity tool. The results Showed various types of fruit trees had highly significant effect on the effective capacity of the tool and the percentage of defect had no significant effect on the capacity of the field. The best result was on rambutan fruit i.e 30.54 kg h-1 with the percentage of defects of 7.3%.
