Because of the character, the story could run and seem more alive. Therefore, the writer of this paper focuses on the life of the main character in the novel Safe Haven. Abstract

Easy English for Children adalah sebuah blog edukatif yang sengaja dibuat untuk mempermudah belajar bahasa inggris bagi siswa. Sasaran kami adalah siswa SD yang masih sangat awam dalam pelajaran bahasa Inggris. Dengan menggunakan blog ini diharapkan pelajaran bahasa Inggris menjadi lebih mudah dipahami karena blog adalah sebuah media ajar yang sekarang ini lebih mudah diakses oleh siswa di seluruh Indonesia. Dalam final project ini, penulis berusaha untuk memberikan edukasi dengan memanfaatkan media internet dan juga memilih berbagai fitur yang cocok untuk anak anak dengan harapan mereka dapat bermain sambil belajar dan tidak cepat bosan tentunya.

Abstract

The purpose of composing this book review is to present to the readers the summary of Every Day novel as well as the review about its strengths and weakness. The reason of choosing this novel is the unique story that this novel offers. This novel tells us about a sixteen year old genderless spirit named A who wakes up in a different body and lives different life every day.As different life means different story, it is interesting to look at how the characters in the novel are going down that road and overcoming every obstacle in almost every chapter.

Abstract

Dalam sebuah surat kabar terdapat beberapa kolom yang memiliki fungsi berbeda-beda. Oleh karena itu, sebuah kolom di surat kabar memiliki genrenya masing-masing. Dalam skripsi ini, penulis tertarik untuk menganalisis genre pada sebuah kolom yang berjudul “This odd world” dalam the Jakarta Post. Penulis bermaksud menemukan alasan, mengapa kolom ini berjudul seperti itu. Kolom tersebut memiliki karakteristik, yaitu diterbitkan setiap hari dengan tema yang berbeda-beda, dan selalu menceritakan suatu hal ataupun peristiwa aneh, tidak biasa. Untuk mendukung analisis tersebut, penulis menggunakan teori Genre dan Systemic Functional Grammar. Penulis membatasi persoalan pada analisis terhadap tipe-tipe genrenya saja. Tujuan dari skripsi ini adalah mengidentifikasi tipe genre dari kolom tersebut dengan menemukan fungsi sosial, struktur umum, dan ciri-ciri yang penting.Data yang digunakan berupa klausa-klausa yang muncul dalam kolom tersebut pada edisi April 2013. Metode yang digunakan untuk mengumpulkan data adalah Documentary method, dan dilengkapi dengan tehnik Purposive Sampling. Dalam menganalisa data, penulis menggunakan metode Referential Identity oleh Sudaryanto dengan mengaplikasikan teori Type of Genre, Transitivity system, dan Nominal group dari Gerot dan Wignell sebagai referensi bahasa. Penulis juga menggunakan Quantitative and Qualitative methods untuk membuat persentasi analisis ciri-ciri yang penting dari kolom tersebut, dan menginterpretasikan hasil dari quantitative data.Hasil analisis menunjukan bahwa secara umum, ciri-ciri yang penting dari kolom tersebut adalah penggunaan  material process, specific human or non-human participant, place and time circumstances, specific deictic and classifier sebagai modifier, dan simple present and past tense. Terdapat lima tipe genre yang cocok ataupun terdeteksi pada kolom tersebut, yaitu Spoof text, Recount text, News Item text, Anecdote text, dan Description text. Tipe genre yang sering muncul adalah Anecdote text. Penulis tidak bisa menentukan struktur umum dari kolom tersebut karena setiap tipe genre memiliki struktur yang berbeda. Dari keseluruhan data, penulis dapat menarik kesimpulan bahwa setiap data dengan tipe genre yang berbeda sebenarnya memiliki kesamaan, yaitu menceritakan tentang hal atau peristiwa yang aneh.

Literature is the piece of writing valued as a work of art, especially novels, plays and poems. Novel is one of literary works that tell the reader a story which consist of plot, character, theme and conflict.Novel also has many themes such as Romance, Heroic and Friendship. Many authors use friendship as the main theme in literary works. One of thoseis depicted in Matthew J Kirby’s The Clockwork Three.

Abstract

Ambiguity usually happens in the communication. Newspapers as a medium communication can also lead ambiguity to the reader, especially on the headlines. This study describes a structural ambiguity in the headlines compiled on the website of Department of Languages, Cultures and Linguistics Bucknell University. The writer used observation methods with note taking technique to collect the data. The data were then analyzed by applying X-bar theory, which principally explains that each syntactic structure has a head. The result of this study indicates that there were three causes of structural ambiguity, i.e. differences of syntactic category, placement of prepositional phrases that functions as an adjunct, and verbs subcategorization.

Abstract

Literature such as novel is one of human works, presents some character‟s struggle inseveral circumstances. In which influences and entertain the reader. The purpose of TheLast Song written by Nicholas Sparks review are explains the theme and the struggle ofthe main character as the strength of the novel, and the weakness. Based on the review,the novel has theme about the affection for God, Family members, friends, and nature.Affection is something beautiful. Someone is getting affection to get happiness. Thisnovel has the struggle of a main character that is a struggle from father to reconcile hisrelationship with his daughter. On the other hand, the weakness from this novel is aboutthe song finished by main character, the readers may be disappointed with the endingfrom this novel. There is no detail or description about the lyrics and intonation about thatsong. The Last Song is a suitable novel read by people who wants to struggle and to haveaffection in daily life. It reminds the readers of the truly important things in life and givesthe readers a look at love, joy, peace, patience and kindness.

Abstract

Nightcrawler is a movie which is written and directed by Don Gilroy shows how media works. This movie tells about a freelancer cameraman named Louis Bloom who looks for footage of a news, records it and sell it to a news station. The aims of this thesis are to describe the intrinsic and extrinsic aspects of the movie. The intrinsic aspects cover the narrative elements (theme, characters, setting, plot and conflict) and cinematic elements (camera distance, mise-en-scene and sound) while the extrinsic aspects cover how media works based on agenda setting theory, the news coverage and media bias in Nightcrawler. The writer used library research to support the data analysis obtained from some references, such as some related books, journals and articles. The result of this thesis is in the process of how the news produced, there are some modifications of information so the news will be more suitable with the value of where the company comes from. The process itself contains some editing process of how media covers an issue, which can lead into media bias.

Abstract

Profil perusahaan merupakan instrumen penting bagi suatu perusahaan untukmemperkenalkan perusahaan tersebut kepada masyarakat dan investor yangmemiliki potensi sebagai sebuah genre. Penelitian ini menggunakan pendekatankualitatif dengan kecenderungan semi kuantitatif. Pendekatan semi kuantitatif digunakan untuk menghitung presentase fitur-fitur linguistik seperti tipe proses,tenses, circumstantial elements, dan modifiers dalam nominal group, sedangkanpendekatan kualitatif digunakan untuk menginterpretasikan fitur dan strukturlinguistik, serta fungsi sosial dari profil perusahaan. Data penelitian  diambildengan teknik random sampling yang terdiri dari 134 klausa dari profil-profilperusahaan yang diambil dari situs resmi lima perusahaan yaitu Sony Corporation,Chevron Corporation, Martha Tilaar Group, Telkomsel, dan Manulife Indonesia.Dalam menganalisis data, penulis mengaplikasikan konsep genre dari Gerot danWignell dikombinasikan dengan teori Transitivity dan konsep nominal group dariHalliday dan Matthiessen, serta metode distribusi dan teknik permutasi olehSudaryanto. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa profil perusahaan sebagai sebuahgenre memiliki fitur dan struktur linguistik, serta fungsi sosial tertentu. Sebuah profilperusahaan memiliki fitur linguistik yang didominasi oleh partisipan spesifik,Classifier dan specific Deictic dalam nominal group, proses Material, dan SimplePresent tense. Struktur linguistik profil perusahaan terdiri dari dua bagian yaituidentifikasi dan deskripsi. Fungsi sosial profil perusahaan adalah untukmendeskripsikan suatu perusahaan dari hal yang umum ke hal yang khusus.

Abstract

The writer discusses love desire in poem of John Clare entitled “First Love”. The purpose of this study is to understand the poem through analyzing intrinsic and extrinsic elements of the poem. The methods used were library research and structural approach. By using the method of library research, the writer collects some information and document that support the process of analysis. The structural approach used by the writer to discover and analyze intrinsic element inside the poem. The extrinsic element analysis discusses about love desire in this poem by using theory of love by Erich Fromm. The result of the study shows how deep the poet’s love desire and consistency of loving her are, although the girl does not love him.
