Abstract

Background: Periodontal disease is common in Indonesia, especially periodontitis, with a prevalence of 74.1%. One of the main etiologies of periodontitis is Porphyromonas gingivalis which colonizes dental plaque in the stages of secondary colonization and maturation. Pluchea indica leaves contain active substances with antibacterial properties, including flavonoids, tannins, alkaloids, saponin, and atsiri oil which can be used as additional pharmacotherapeutic therapy in the treatment of periodontitis. The gel preparation has good dispersion, practical, easy to apply. Aim the study to specify the effectiveness of Pluchea indica extract gel 40%, 60% and 80% against the growth of Porphyromonas gingivalis. Method: This research employed an in vitro experimental post-test control design. Thirty samples were split into five groups: the 40%, 60%, and 80% concentrations of the Pluchea indica leaves gel, positive control using metronidazole gel, and negative control. Samples underwent 48 hours of incubation. After being administered a Pluchea indica leaves gel, the diffusion method is used to determine the sensitivity of the test bacteria to antibacterial. Result: The diameter of the inhibition zone formed by Pluchea indica extract gel group with a concentration of around 80% was in the category very strong. Based on the results of the Tukey post-hoc test p

Abstract

Ranula is a retention pseudocyst caused by an obstruction or trauma in the duct of the sublingual salivary gland which causes mucus extravasation. The ranula that extends through the mylohyoid muscle into the submandibular space is called plunging ranula. The prevalence of ranula is approximately 0.2 cases per 1000 individuals, accounting for 6% of intraoral salivary gland cyst, meanwhile plunging ranulas are still unknown. Simple ranulas generally occurs in children and young adults, meanwhile plunging ranulas occurs in patients aged 20-29. Ranula conditions are generally unilateral, meanwhile bilateral ranula is a rare case. In this case, we presented a plunging ranula case with bilateral condition in a patient aged 10 years old. This paper aimed at presenting a rare case to highlight the etiology, diagnosis, treatment, and prognosis of this condition.

Abstract

Background: Oral candidiasis is a fungal infection that affects the oral mucosa, most of these lesion are caused by Candida albicans. Candida infection often occured in infants aged 0-12 months because they had imunoregulator system which hadnot matured completely. Other causes were parents who often gave milk through bottles, leftover milk in the baby's mouth that was not cleaned, bad habits by giving pacifiers (fopspeen) to suck without paying attention to cleanliness.. The role of parents was very important in maintaining to prevent oral candidiasis. Make a valid and reliabel measured instrument in the form of a questionnaire is needed to be able to measeure the level of parental knowledge of oral candidiasis, until now there is no instrument that measure this focus. The main purpose in this study was to create a valid and realiable instrument which measure the level of parental knowledge of oral candidiadis in infants aged 0-12 months. Method: The study method is descriptive stages were the preparation of dimensions, indicators and statement items, content validity index(CVI), construct validity test with pearson correlation test (rcount>rtable) and reliability test by looking at the cronbach alpha value(0>7). Abstract

Background: Dental erosion is a non-carious lesion that occurs due to demineralization caused by exposure to acidic materials. The tooth remineralization process can be restored by adding calcium-containing materials to the teeth. There are other sources of calcium that come from animals but are still not and are rarely explored, one of which is duck egg shells. Duck egg shells contain around 94 – 97% CaCO3 and the content of duck egg shells reaches 90% calcium levels. Method: The experimental research design was in the form of a post test only control group design with a total sample of 12 permanent premolars. Duck egg shell nanohydroxyapatite is given in a gel preparation. Tooth microporosity was measured using a Scanning Electron Microscopy with a micro magnification of 5000x Result: The hypothesis test was carried out by using the one way ANOVA test and significant results were obtained (P≤ 0.05) for all treatment groups. The LSD test was carried out to see the differences between groups and the results obtained between the group of 20% duck egg shell extract gel, 5% sodium fluoride and the untreated group obtained a p value = 0.000 (p

Abstract

Background: The maxillary permanent central incisors are the anterior teeth most at risk of experiencing tooth fracture injuries due to trauma. Dental trauma is caused by impact resulting from sufficient mechanical energy to involve the exposed pulp. Appropriate therapy for technical ability to restore teeth due to trauma with exposed pulp with root canal treatment accompanied by fiber post restoration and jacket crown. Case report: a 22 year old male patient diagnosed with pulp necrosis accompanied by asymptomatic apical periodontitis and root canal treatment was performed on the upper right central incisor. Objective examination results showed negative vitality and positive percussion. The results of the radiological examination showed a radiolucent area in the apical area and a widened periodontal membrane in the apical 1/3 of the tooth. The tooth undergoes root canal treatment by isolating the working area, then preparing the access cavity. Negotiate the root canal using #10 K-files and measure the working length with an apex locator. The root canal was irrigated using 2.5 % NaOCl followed by 17% EDTA. and 2% chlorhexidine. Preparation is carried out using hand-held instruments. Filling the root canal with endomethasone sealer using the lateral condensation obturation technique and followed by making a fiber post restoration and Porcelain Fused Metal crown at the next visit. Conclusion: Root canal treatment in the case of the upper right central incisor with a fused metal porcelain jacket crown restoration and fiber post which was carried out in this case showed clinical and radiological success

Abstract

Background: Orthodontic treatment is a treatment that aims to correct malrelation and malformations to restore masticatory function, esthetics and obtain a good arrangement of teeth to achieve proper occlusion. The bracket is a component in orthodontic treatment that functions as a force conductor. The use of a bracket with a type of stainless steel material has several advantages such as an economical price, corrosion resistance, and high strength, but the habit of consuming carbonated drinks in stainless steel bracket users can cause the release of Ni ions, which can trigger hypersensitivity reactions in some person. Information is needed regarding the relationship between the release of Ni ions on a stainless steel bracket soaked in carbonated drinks to type IV hypersensitivity reactions, especially to an increase in the number of neutrophil cells. Method: The design of this study used a post-test group design using a sample of 10 male Wistar rats which were divided into 2 groups (n = 5), namely the treatment group and the control group. Calculation of the number of neutrophils using histopathological observations with Hematoxylin-Eosin staining using an electric microscope with 400x magnification. Result: The average number of neutrophils in the treatment group was 4.14 and the control group was 1.04. Statistical tests using the Welch T-Test showed significant differences between the two groups (P
