Abstract

Probiotics is live microorganisms which is given in adequate amounts in the form of food Probiotics is live microorganisms which are given in adequate amounts in the form of food or supplements provide health benefits to the body. Probiotics Bacteria has to unleash antimicrobial substances such as organic acids, hydrogen peroxide and bacteriocins. The aim of the study is to know inhibition differences between two different types of probiotic bacteria toward Aggregatibacter actinomycetemcomitans.The study was conducted by using two different types of probiotics, the probiotics containing bacteria Lactobacillus acidophilus and Bifidobacterium and probiotic containing bacteria Lactobacillus bulgaricus and Streptococcus thermophiles, and sterile distilled water as a negative control group. The antibacterial properties of the extracts were tested using by chamber diffusion method and incubated ± 24hours, then by measuring inhibition zone (light zone) around the chamber using calipers.The average resistance zone of probiotics which contains probiotic bacteria Lactobacillus acidophilus and Bifidobacterium, probiotic bacteria Lactobacillus bulgaricus and Streptococcus thermophiles successive sequence were 3.13 mm, and 1.87 mm. There were differences with One Way Anova in the groups treated with significance of 0.000.From the results, it concluded that there were differences in the inhibition of the two types of probiotic bacteria on the growth of Aggregatibacter actinomycetemcomitans. Keywords : Probiotics, Lactobacillus acidophilus and Bifidobacterium, Lactobacillus bulgaricus and Streptococcus thermophiles, resistibility, Aggregatibacter actinomycetemcomitans

Abstract

Pendidikan kesehatan gigi adalah upaya untuk meningkatkan kesehatan gigi dan mulut sejak dini. Pemberian pendidikan kesehatan gigi harus menarik, penjelasan yang menarik tanpa mengurangi konten pendidikan. Pemberian pengetahuan dapat dilakukan dengan permainan ular tangga yang telah dimodifikasi. Tujuan dari penelitian ini adalah untuk menganalisis pengaruh permainan ular tangga modifikasi terhadap pengetahuan kesehatan gigi da mulut pada anak. Metode penelitian ini menggunakan analitik deskriptif dengan rancangan pre dan post test. Sampel dikumpulkan dengan menggunakan metode stratified random sampling yang terdiri 73 responden berdasarkan kriteria inklusi dari SD N VI Tanggungharjo, Grobogan. Variabel independen adalah permainan ular tangga modifikasi. Variabel terikat adalah pengetahuan tentang kesehatan gigi dan mulut pada anak. Data dikumpulkan dengan menggunakan kuesioner dan dianalisis dengan menggunakan uji Paired t - test dengan p < 0,05. Berdasarkan analisis menggunakan uji Paired t - test menunjukkan terdapat pengaruh permainan ular tangga terhadap peningkatan tingkat pengetahuan anak yang ditunjukkan dari nilai signifikansi 0, 000 (p < 0,05). Dari hasil penelitian tersebut dapat disimpulkan bahwa permainan ular tangga modifikasi mempengauhi peningkatan pengetahuan kesehatan gigi dan mulut pada anak.

Abstract

Noni fruit (Morinda citrifolia, Linn) consists of antibacterial compound of phenolic. The phenolic derivatives of noni fruit are alizarin, antrakuinon, and acubin, these derivatives can kill bacteria by damaging cell membrane and protein denaturation. The aim of this study is to determine the effectiveness of antibacterial noni fruit extract in killing bacteria Enterococcus faecalis.The study was conducted by making various concentrate of noni fruit extract, that is 100%, 50%, 25%, 12,5%, and 6,25%, and cresophene as the positive control. Testing samples of the bacterium Enterococcus faecalis suspension by putting a disc that has been soaked in various concentrations extract and cresophene on a petri dish, and then incubated for 24 hour, followed with measurement of kiling zone (light zone) around the discs using calipers.The average killing zones formed in extracts 100%, 50%, 25%, 12.5%, 6.25% and cresophene respectively were 13.9 mm, 9.6 mm, 7.3 mm, 6.4 mm , 6mm, and 27.1 mm. The data obtained were tested with One Way Anova and gained a result that there was a difference in the treatment group with significance of 0.000.It can be concluded that noni fruit extract was effective in killing bacteria Enterococcus faecalis.The higher concentration of noni fruit extract, more effective in killing bacteria Enterococcus faecalis. Keyword: antibacterial, noni fruit extract, killing zone of Enterococcus faecalis.

Abstract

Inflammation of oral mucosa often occurs in the form of recurrent ulcers and on histopathological assessment proved infiltration of inflammatory cells such as polymorphonuclear cells and mononuclear phagocytes. Myrmecodia pendans contain flavonoids, polifenols, tokoferols that can heal inflammation. The purpose of this study is to determine the effectiveness differences in the provision of Myrmecodia pendans decoction to the number of macrophages in inflammation of oral mucosa Rattus norvegiccus with various concentrations.The research method used is an experimental design with post test control group design. The sample were 25 tails male Rattus norvegiccus were divided into 5 groups. Group I was given of Myrmecodia pendans decoction concentration 25%, Group II was given concentration 50%, Group III was given concentration 75% , Group IV was given concentration 100% and the control group was aquadest.Test results of the study based on the comparison between the five groups by One Way ANOVA showed that the average number of macrophages have significance differencess in all groups (p <0.05).Conclusions provision of Myrmecodia pendans decoction concentration 100% has the highest effectiveness of the number of macrophages than concentration 25%, 50%, and 75% in rats oral mucosa inflammation. Keywords : oral mucosa inflammation, macrophages, Myrmecodia pendans.

Abstract

Type 2 diabetes mellitus patients are individuals who are potentially exposed to infectious diseases due to their weakened immune. One of these infections is in the oral cavity. Diabetes mellitus also affects the patient’s psychological condition, such as anxiety and depression. The aim of the study is to determine the relationship between levels of anxiety with oral health of diabetes mellitus patients type 2 RSI Sultan Agung Semarang in 2012.This research was used analytic observational on cross sectional design, conducted on 30 patients at the RSI Sultan Agung Semarang in 2012 with the simple random sampling technique. Anxiety levels of patients was measured by using questioner of Hammilton Anxiety Rating Scale (HAM-A). Caries status was measured by the DMF-T index, periodontal tissue status was measured by russel periodontal index, status saliva was measured by salivary status sialometri technique. The results were analyzed with the product moment pearson correlation.From the result showed that there was a significant relationship between the level of anxiety with dental caries status (p = 0.004), anxiety levels with periodontal tissue status (p = 0.000), and anxiety levels with saliva status (p = 0.009).Based on the research it can be inferred that there was a significant relationship between the level of anxiety with oral health of diabetes mellitus type 2 patients at RSI Sultan Agung Semarang in 2012. Keywords: Anxiety, oral health, diabetes mellitus type 2

Abstract

Background: Periodontitis is the inflammation of periodontal tissue that is characterized by the migration to the apical epithelial jungsional with clinical signs of an increase in probing depth. Periodontitis is one of the oral manifestations in patients with DM. CRP is a protein alpha-globulin produced in the liver and increased levels of inflammatory process in the event. In diabetic patients increased levels of CRP resulted in periodontal tissue destruction. The purpose of this study was to determine the profile of CRP levels in patients with type 2 diabetes mellitus with periodontitis. Method: This research was conducted using analytical observational research methods. The samples used were type 2 diabetes patients with periodontitis and the control group of patients with type 2 diabetes without periodontitis in Sultan Agung Islamic Hospital . All of samples were examined periodontal index, levels of CRP and oral hygiene. Result: Mann Whitney's test show significance p=0.000, which means there are significant differences between groups. Spearman-Kendall's correlation show that relationship between CRP and periodontal index p=0.000 with a correlation coefficient 0.875 means p<0.05 there was that a significant relationship exists between them and the relationship is strong . In relation OH and periodontitis index p=0.030 with a correlation coefficient of 0.650 means p<0.05 there was that a significant relationship exists between them and the relationship strong . Conclusion: It can be concluded that CRP levels in patients type 2 diabetes with periodontitis is higher than the patients type 2 diabetes without periodontitis. And there is a strong relationship between levels of CRP with periodontitis index , and also a strong relationship between periodontitis and OH index .

Abstract

Background: Nosocomial infections can develop in the oral cavity due to poor oral hygiene. Oral Candidiasis is one of the most frequent nosocomial infection in oral cavity. The objective of this study is to describe the oral hygiene and oral candidiasis in hospitalized patients. Method: This analitical observational study used cross sectional design. Subject of the study were 74 adult patients aged 20-65 who are hospitalized at the Sultan Agung Islamic Hospital Semarang. Oral hygiene assessed from the presence of debris and calculus on the tooth surface using Simplified Oral Hygiene Index (OHIS) that were grouped in three categories (good, moderate, bad). Oral candidiasis diagnosed through clinical examination and swab procedure of suspicious lesions, and identified the presence of its spores and hyphae under a microscope observation. Kendal Tau test is used to analyze the correlation between oral hygiene with oral candidiasis. Results: Results showed patients with oral candidiasis in the poor and moderate oral hygiene were 29.7% and 1.4%, whereas patients without oral candidiasis in the poor and moderate oral hygiene were 60.8% and 8.1%. Kendall Tau correlation test results p value of 0.235 (p> 0.05). Conclusion: Conclusion of this study showed there is no association between oral hygiene with oral candidiasis.

Abstract

Introduction: Gingivitis is an inflammatory gingiva which has early sign is a little bleeding and mild swelling of the gingiva and if this gingivitis is untreated it could be the periodontitis. The process of gingivitis can be prevented with an antibacterial compound.Purpose: The aim of this research is to determine the effectiveness of topical extracts of lemongrass and clove to cure gingivitis.Methods: This experimental research used post test control group design. The samples were 28 male Wistar rats 2-3 months that were divided into 4 groups. Group I as a positive control was given amoxicillin and metronidazole, group II was given lemongrass extract, group III was given clove extracts, and the fourth group was given a combination of lemongrass and clove extracts. The addition of an extract is done in twice a day for 2 days.Results: Healing of gingivitis seen from the number of polymorphonuclear leukocytes/PMN leukocytes. The mean number of PMN in group I = 5.00, group II = 9.43, group III = 8:57, and group IV = 5.86. Based on the Kruskal Wallis test there was not a significant difference of the PMN number withinfourth experiment group.Conclusion: The conclusion of this study was combination of lemongrass and clove extract had an effectiveness level that almost similar to metronidazole dan amoxicillin in decreasing the number of polymorphonuclear leukocytes in the gingivitis healing process.

Abstract

Background: The objective of this research is to investigate influence of polishing time and citric acid on microleakage in nanofiller composite resin restoration (Z350XT,3M). Method: The research was conducted on a class V restoration amount sample 24 on bovine teeth. The first group restoration was polished immediately after curing then was soaked in distilled water. The second group was polished immediately after curing and then was soaked in citric acid.The third group was polished after 24 hours of curing and then was soaked in distilled water. The fourth group was polished after 24 hours of curing then was soaked in citric acid. Samples were immersed for 7 days and then were soaked in methylene blue for 1 day and were split longitudinally and were observed using microskopstereo and were measured using calipers. Result: Data were analized by Kruskal-wallis with the result of p > 0,05, there is a significant difference in group I, II, III, and IV. Mann- Whitney test results the difference between the data. Conclusion: The conclution is there were significant differences between the groups which immersed with citric acid of distilled water and there is no significant difference between groups which polished immediately and polished 24 hours later.

Abstract

Background: Wound healing is a complex biological process. Fibroblast is one of cell which is responsible for the wound healing process. Virgin Coconut Oil (VCO) have health benefit as antibacterial, antiinflamatory, antioxidant, and immunomodulatory. This research was purposed to know the influence use of VCO over the amount of fibroblast in wound healing after dental extraction.Method: Research quasi experimental with post test control group design and using 15 Rattus novergicus which were divided into three groups (control positive, VCO topical application, and VCO per oral application). Tooth removal was committed by using explorer, scalpel-blade, and arterial clamp. Then VCO applied everyday for 7 days. Day 7th Rattus novergicus were died, the socket after extraction were made into histological form, then the amount of fibroblast were counted with 5 field of views and made in average. Result: The number of fibroblast of the most numerous was VCO per oral ( 48,6 ± 49,8 ), VCO topical ( 36,2 ± 38,8 ), and control positive ( 33,4 ± 35,2 ). The results of the Saphiro Wilk test and Levene test acquired data normally distributed and homogeny, so it continued to One Way Anova and data showed there were significant difference among the groups of samples with value p<0,05.Conclusion: The conclusion of this research is VCO could increase the number of fibroblasts in wound healing after dental extractions
