Abstract

In this paper, flexural free vibrations of a straight vertical cantilever beam have been modeled and simulated. Here, a modeled cantilever beam has modulus of elasticity, moment of inertia, cross-section and density are constant. Motion equation of a modeled cantilever beam are separated become two Partial Differential Equations; one depends on position and another on time. This technique yields the motion equation of a modeled cantilever beam contains two functions; one defines deflection shapes and another defines amplitude of vibrations within time. The deflection shapes are described for first five natural frequencies of a modeled cantilever beam. Furthermore, the motion equation of a modeled cantilever beam is solved by using Fourier series. From simulation of a modeled cantilever beam with 2 GPa modulus of elasticity, 2.67x10-8 m4 moment of inertia, 8x10-4 m2 cross-section, 7862.30 kg/m3 density, 1 m length, and 100 N initial load obtained 16.29, 102.11, 285.95, 560.36, and 926.22 rad/s first five natural frequencies respectively.

Abstract

One of the most widely used and applied technics materials today is a composite material based on nature. Natural composites are lightweight and relatively strong and environmentally friendly, so composites based on synthetic fibers are reduced in use. This study uses constituent materials derived from shells and bunches of palm oil plant crops that function as reinforcement. Shells and fibers from empty bunch of oil palm plants are made in the form of powder. Matrix used in this research was polyester resin and epoxy resin. The volume fraction between the reinforcement and the matrix is 50:50. The fabrication process of this environmentally friendly composite is compression molding with a pressure load of 30 kg/cm2. This study aims to determine the effect of the type of composite materials on physical and thermal properties of the natural composite. The results show that natural composites are high density composites. The highest density of palm shell/polyester composite is 1,223 g/cm3 and the lowest density of oil palm empty bunch/epoxy composite is 1,021 g/cm3. The highest thermal conductivity of oil palm shell/polyester composite is 0,28 W/m.K. Thermal conductivity composite value is more influenced by binder/matrix of composites.

Abstract

Coconut plant is a very useful natural resource for human life. One of the benefits of coconut plant is coconut is a raw material that can be processed fresh drinks. In general, the process of peeling coconut still using the manual process so it takes a lot of energy, a long time, and a sharp tool to peel the coconut, to overcome this need a design of a more efficient young coconut peeler, this machine is designed using cheaper materials so that can be reached by all people especially who have business of coconut sales. Coconut peeler is a working principle of rotary system, the coconut to be peeled is placed on top made specifically for the coconut holder and to ensure the coconut does not fall during peeling process, the coconut is retained using a lever that serves as a lock. The driving force used is the electric motor, power on the electric motor will be forwarded from the pully motor rotation through v-belt to the pulley driven. From this research has been obtained model of machine design to peel coconut coir, coconut coir peel machine which is designed can peel coconut husk within 2 minutes for 1 coconut, with the highest efficiency value which is worth 93.5%

Abstract

The development of material engineering technology is now beginning to experience an increase in the utilization of natural fibers as a reinforcement in composites. The purpose of this research is to know the effect of thermal shock on bending strength and impact matrix of epoxy with betel fiber. In this study used betel fiber with a length of 1cm and epoxy resin matrix. Matrix and reinforcement composition 30%: 70% v, pinewood was soaked with 30% NaOH for 30 minutes. The composite was heated at a temperature of 1000C for 1 hour, then dipped into water with a variation of 10.15,20 cycles. Bending and impact testing based on ASTM 790 and ASTM D-265. The results showed that the highest bending strength was obtained at the thermal shock of 10 cycles of 76.75 N / mm2 and the lowest at 20 cycles of 48.26 N / mm2. At impact test at get biggest impact energy obtained at thermal shock 10 cycle that is 0,756 J and the smallest at 20 cycle that is equal to 0,060 J. This result show that bigger cycle at thermal shock hence composite strength will decrease.

Abstract

Energy use is a major problem in the vapor compression air cooling system, especially in areas with very hot weather conditions. In hot weather conditions, the performance of the system has decreased dramatically and electricity consumption has increased significantly. Combined Condensor with evaporative cooling will increase the heat removal process by using an evaporative cooling effect that will increase the efficiency of energy use. This paper presents the study of the use of evaporative cooling and condenser. This paper mainly calculated energy consumption in steam compression cooling systems and related problems. From the results of this study, the use of condensers with evaporative cooling, power consumption can be reduced to 46% and performance coefficient (COP) can be increased by about 12%, with 1,2 kW cooling capacity.

Abstract

The flaws or failures that occur in the welding results can be caused by many things, one caused by the quality of the electrode. The quality of the electrode may be affected by moisture caused by water or oil, thereby damaging the flux lining the electrode. To know how big influence of oil on electrode to result of welding of low carbon steel hence conducted a research by using oil as element of elektrodanya moisturizer. The humidity of the electrode is carried out by immersing the electrodes into the SAE 40 oil oil until it reaches the absorption of 5% by weight of the electrode. Welding process is then performed on low carbon steel plate with DCSP polarity. The result of welding is metallographic testing to observe macrostructure and microstructure of welding area and base metal. From the test results obtained that the moisture of electrodes by oil cause defects in the weld metal region on the low carbon steel welding results.

Abstract

The study aims to investigate the production of bio-ethanol derived from sugar palm using flat plate solar collector, the bio-ethanol level based on different sugar palm liquid treatments, heat transfer in the collector, and compare the results of the two procedures of testing. The study method used is experiment by testing the bio-ethanol produced with two different testing methods. The experiment indicates that the first procedure yields 68 cc and the average production is 17 cc, with an ethanol concentration of 62,9%. The second procedure generate 49 cc and the average production is 16,3 cc with ethanol concentartion of 60,9%
