Abstract

Status epilepticus is any type of epileptic seizure that fails to stop and lasts for more than 30 minutes. This condition is an emergency in the field of neurology. In adults, almost 50% of status epilepticus is caused by acute cerebrovascular disease, hypoxia, metabolic disorders, and inadequate epilepsy treatment. While in children caused by infection of the central nervous system, metabolic disorders, trauma, and anoxia. If the seizures do not stop and last for a long time, they can lead to complications such as rhabdomyolysis. Rhabdomyolysis is a syndrome that can be life-threatening due to the breakdown of skeletal muscle cells. Skeletal muscle cells release toxic substances such as myoglobin which will clog the tubules in the kidneys, interfere with urinary excretion, and cause acute renal failure. Diagnosis is based on clinical signs and symptoms, and laboratory tests. Early signs are non-specific. Symptoms may include muscle weakness, increased body temperature and local or generalized muscle pain. Laboratory tests are carried out to confirm the diagnosis, namely looking at the amount of creatine kinase. The incidence of acute renal failure due to rhabdomyolysis is around 10% - 40%. In addition, antiepileptic drugs such as phenytoin have been reported to have an association with acute kidney failure.

Abstract

The incidence and prevalence of type II diabetes is increasing worldwide that makes clinicians must try to identify, prevent, and treat patients appropriately. Diabetes mellitus is divided into 2 types, namely type I and type II. Type I diabetes mellitus occurs genetically because the body cannot produce insulin, while type II diabetes mellitus occurs due to acquired insulin resistance. Diabetes mellitus is a group of metabolic disorders with manifestations of hyperglycemia due to damage to pancreatic cells that causes insulin deficiency (type I diabetes) to insulin resistance (type II diabetes). High levels of potassium in the blood can help increase insulin secretion in pancreatic cells through a membrane potential that triggers depolarization, so that the sensitivity of β cells to the incidence of hyperglycemia increases. Potassium intake is very important in helping to increase insulin secretion of pancreatic cells so as to prevent hyperglycemia and reduce the risk of insulin resistance. Potassium as an electrolyte in the body, both serum levels and dietary intake are associated with the incidence of diabetes. Lower potassium levels have been found to be associated with an increased risk of diabetes in several studies.

Abstract

Coronavirus disease 2019 is an acute respiratory syndrome that causes severe, moderate or mild symptoms. This infection is susceptible in pregnant women and it is associated with the risk of morbidity and mortality both in mother and baby such as intensive care unit, preeclampsia, infection and premature birth and low birth weight. This condition can be prevented by administering the covid-19 vaccine to pregnant women. The covid-19 vaccine is divided into three types based on the mechanism of action, which are mRNA, viral vector and recombinant protein antigen. Four covid-19 vaccines are approvedfor use in the UK; the Pfizer-BioNTech vaccine, the Oxford-AstraZeneca vaccine, the Moderna vaccine and the Janssen vaccine. The vaccine recommended for pregnant women in Indonesia is the Sinovac vaccine which uses the inactivated COVID-19 virus to trigger an immunological response in host cells.

Abstract

Atherosclerosis is characterized by changes in the size of arteries caused by the formation of atherosclerosis plaques consisting of necrosis cells, calcified areas, modified lipid accumulation, smooth muscle cells, endothelial cells, leukocytes, and foam cells. Coronary Artery Disease and stroke are the main clinical manifestations of atherosclerosis. One of the causes of aeroskelrosis is consuming too much food that contains high fat. The interaction between oxidized LDL and the walls of blood vessels, can cause endothelium dysfunction. In addition, oxidized LDL stimulates the formation of lipid peroxide free radicals, makes mononuclear cells (monocytes) differentiate into macrophages, then begins inflammation by removing pro-inflammatory cytokines. Single Clove Garlic (SGC) is a tropical plant found in Indonesia and is often used as an herbal remedy. Single Clove Garlic is a variation of garlic that is formed accidentally, due to extreme conditions. This type of onion contains Alliin (411.4 mg/mL), Allicin (268.2 mg/mL) and ajoene which makes it have a higher antioxidant capacity than regular garlic.  The use of SGC as quoted is considered to be beneficial for the cardiovascular system.

Abstract

The Pb metal content in motor vehicle exhaust gases can danger health and  damage the environment. Pb metal as a free radical can trigger oxidative stress. Oxidative stress causes an increase in reactive oxygen species (ROS) and damage to the spermatozoa membrane. Antioxidants are one of the compounds that can be used to overcome this problem, including the mangosteen peel extract which has a view of antioxidants as an antidote to free radicals. This experimental was conducted for 14 days. 25 male rats (Spragua dawley) were divided into 5 treatment groups: K + (without treatment), K-, P1, P2, P3 (exposed to plumbum acetate dose of 0.35gram / KgBB and given consecutively mangosteen peel extract at a dose of 0 , 50, 100, 200 mg / KgBB, mean primary sprematocytes were calculated using a microscope with 400x magnification. The results of the treatment analysis (P1, P2, and P3) showed that the mangosteen peel extract had not been able to increase mean primary spematocytes from male white rats, mean that of primary spermatocytes obtained was 133.2 ± 24 (K+), 71.85 ± 16.9 (K-), 72.0 ± 17.3 (P1), 29.2 ± 9.3 (P2), 43.3 ± 6.82 (P3)test post hoc LSD showed significant differences from each treatment group. The extract of the Mangosteen skin was not yet able to increase Average of primary spermatocytes of male white rats exposed to plumbum acetate.

Abstract

Conjunctivitis is one of the most common eye diseases. Bacterial conjunctivitis ranks second after viral conjunctivitis as the most common cause of infectious conjunctivitis. Bacterial conjunctivitis can affect anyone of all ages, both men and women. One of the non-gonococcal bacteria that often causes eye infections is Staphylococcus aureus. Staphylococcus aureus generally affects adults more often than children Although rarely causes severe complaints, bacterial conjunctivitis can interfere with daily activities such as work or school. Bacterial conjunctivitis usually resolves on its own within 7 days but may continue for up to 2 weeks. Prescribing antibiotics in bacterial conjunctivitis can reduce complaints in patients and can also speed up healing. Selection of the right antibiotic is very important in order to obtain the desired treatment results. Chloramphenicol and levofloxacin are antibiotics with a broad spectrum that can be an option for the treatment of bacterial conjunctivitis caused by Staphylococcus aureus bacteria.

Abstract

Inflammatory Bowel Disease (IBD) is an inflammatory disease of the gastrointestinal tract. The exact cause of Inflammatory Bowel Disease is not yet known clearly. The diagnosis of inflammatory bowel disease is often delayed due to non-specific and intermittent symptoms. There are 2 types of IBD, namely Ulcerative Colitis and Crohn's Disease. Management of IBD can be done with drug therapy, surgery, or a combination of both. This therapy aims to reduce symptoms, improve quality of life, prevent disease recurrence and avoid complications. IBD treatment can occur over a long period of time, during which time it costs quite a bit and can cause various side effects that can be experienced by patients. Therefore, experts began to consider other alternative therapies that could be used, for example the use of curcumin compounds. Curcumin is the active pigment that gives turmeric its yellow color, a plant that belongs to the ginger family or Zingiberaceae and contains anti-inflammatory substances. The mechanism of action of curcumin is by suppressing activity of Nuclear Factor-Kappa B (NF-KB) and also plays a role in suppressing Interleukin-1 (IL-1), IL-6, IL-12, IL-17, and Tumor Necrosis Factor Alpha (TNF). -α), two major cytokines that play an important role in the regulation of the inflammatory response. Management of IBD can be done through the administration of drugs so that curcumin can be considered as one of the treatments for IBD.

Abstract

Chronic kidney disease is a detrimental health problem in children with increasing morbidity and mortality rates. CAPD as an option for renal replacement therapy provides superior benefits over conventional hemodialysis in children with terminal kidney disease. However, the effectiveness of CAPD in long term needs to be anticipated because of the risk of infectious and non-infectious complications. Cross-sectional study was conducted in the Medical Record Department of RSMH. The samples were pediatric patients with CAPD in June (2016-2021) with complete medical records. The Sample study was analyzed by univariate and bivariate. The relationship between risk factors and complications was analyzed using the Chi-square test. The subjects were 14 people, male, >5 years old, normal nutritional status (42.9%), had abnormality anatomy kidney (57.1%), and surgery by laparoscopy (71.4%). The most infectious complication is peritonitis (50%) and the non-infectious complication is poor drainage ( 42.9 %). There was no meaningful relationship among risk factors to complications in patients children with CAPD in RSMH (p>0.05). By the descriptive analysis, every factor plays a role in the incident of complications. However, no there is a meaningful relationship among factor risk of complications infectious and non-infectious.
