Abstract

This research aims to (a) investigate differences in Internet adoption; (b) identify factors affecting Internet adoption; and (c) examine differences of Internet usage pattern between male and female users. Using data from 714 respondents/students with various backgrounds, the research unveils that in general, Internet adoption among female users are lower than that among male users.  Using Technology Acceptance Model (TAM), the research also finds that the Internet adoption among female users is affected by perceived ease of use rather than perceived usefulness. On the other hand, the Internet adoption among male users is affected by perceived usefulness rather than perceived ease of use. Male users are found to have a more flexible Internet access venue when compared to female users. The research also gives an evident that Internet usage pattern among male and female users differs. Proportion of female users who use the Internet for chatting and study-related activities is significantly larger than that of male users. Conversely, proportion of male users who use the Internet for reading online news, testing and downloading software, shopping, entertainment, seeking job vacancy, and visiting pornographic sites are larger than female users. High cost Internet access and low access speed of the Internet and a lack of English proficiency are identified to be most severe obstacles of the Internet adoption in Indonesia. Abstract

In order to able to use SQL (Structured Query Language) properly, users should understand structure of SQL. In this research, a prototype of translator from natural language to SQL format is developed to facilitate novice users to get information from a database. Using three databases, testing results indicate that the translator gives accuracy  of 86%. Keywords: natural language translator, SQL

Abstract

This research is conducted to get a method to make-up tension and hardness of low carbon steel through double-phase steel with a specific parameter of heating temperature at 732oC, 770oC, and 810oC with the variation of detention time 5, 10, 20, and 30 minutes. Before conducting the process, all of specimens are normalized at temperature 900oC within 20 minute  to get early condition of homogeneous structure after double phase forming, hereinafter every specimen get the treatment process  at  200oC holding time 20 minutes to make-up of the resilient and less the tension, hereinafter conducted the ossification stretch to make-up the tension and its hardness. Result of this research indicate, that  with the double phase forming at low carbon steel can increase the tension equal to 83% (from 310 N/mm2 to 567 N/mm2) and make-up of hardness 40% (from 133.1 HV to 186.6 HV) which reached with the treatment process at warm-up temperature 770oC with the time during 20 minutes. This result indicates that this method may be used as an alternative to increase of the mechanical nature of low carbon steel. Keywords: low carbon steel, double phase steel

Abstract

Production of acetic acid from ethanol by electrolysis (electrosynthesis) in alkaline (0.008 M KOH) and acidic (0.08 M HClO4) mediums has been carried out using platinum wire electrode. Besides that, the electrochemical study by cyclic voltammetry (CV) in different scan rates and electrolyte (alkaline and acidic mediums) also had been done. The study shows that the oxidation potential of ethanol ranges from 600-1065 mV in 0.008 M KOH and 700-1125 mV in 0.08 M HClO4. The electrooxidation products were analyzed using the High Performance Liquid Chromatography (HPLC). Keywords: Ethanol, acetic acid, electrolysis, electrosynthesis.

Abstract

Kansei Engineering System (KES) is of technologies in ergonomics that support human-centered design. In Japanese, Kansei means customers’ taste to a certain product. The research aims to apply KES Type II (a more recent development of KES)with artificial neural network (back propagation model) and traingdx learning algorithm to identify product design that fits best with customers’ taste/preferences.The model developed is able to generate a design for steering wheel with various atributes; namely shape of button, number of spokes, material of spokes, texture of grip, style of grip, and color. These atributes are results from 16 pairs of Kansei words which is reduced into five main factors; namely aestethics, emotional evaluation, color, texture, and product reliability. Abstract

This paper aims to represent an approach to the problem of predicting the length of loop yarn on the plain knitted fabric from its structure. By using a structure model introduced by Popper, a mathematical model of a knitted fabric under zero load stress and the behaviour of the approximation of a real fabric were developed.  Some factors, such as the number of course and wale per cm, yarn number and  fabric structure relations were considered.Keywords: zero load stress, yarn number, course and wale per cm.
